Fippy Darkpaw (new Time Locked Server)
I thought some of you might be interested in checking out a new Everquest server. It's a progression server that takes us back to original with a time lock in place to keep progression monitored. Should be fun for some nostalgia.

Re: Fippy Darkpaw (new Time Locked Server)
I was too disappointed in the last free time I received. I think I logged in for the nostalgia, which might have led to the disappointment. My, how things have changed!

Yeah, it's practically a different game in many respects. I've logged in now & then over the last several years, but haven't been able to sustain any interest in it anymore.

Re: Fippy Darkpaw (new Time Locked Server)
People just raced through the content on the original progression servers.
Wasn't very much fun if you weren't in a 'uber' guild and were just playing to try to recapture what the game used to be like.
This new idea will probably be a bit better but nothing can bring back the feelings you had the first time you ran across the Karanas or fell in the trap in Befallen. Or the first time you whacked Vox and Nagafen, cleared Fear and Hate, got your ass kicked by Sirran the Lunatic, waxed Trakanon or fought a small bag named Hoshkar, watched as the Nexonas corpse dropped under the world and the GM showed up well after the corpse had poofed. Ahh the memories. The first Dain kill, clearing TOV, Frozen Jesus in Kael. My first and repeated genocides in Riverdale... man, I would play EQ again if I could still kill Mayor Gubbin and all his goons..
Good times.
I think I'd rather keep them good memories instead of trying to recreate them. I'll only be disappointed.
Besides, I just haven't got the time to play as much as I did back then.

If anyone wants to use their free time to log in and give me all their PP, since they wont be using it, by all means do so. Thanks!

Re: Fippy Darkpaw (new Time Locked Server)
Guess the idea was popular. Two hours into the server opening, they announce a second server Vulak'Aerr.
I really can't see people sticking with this ruleset after the novelty wears off. I could be wrong, but I just can't see it. Who's life isn't massive different than it was 12 years ago. I was around 30 hours a week of playtime back in '99. the hell I can swing even a quarter of that now.

Re: Fippy Darkpaw (new Time Locked Server)
Yeah I'm not sure how that will last but the worst thing that could happen is they just end up server merging the two. It's hard to gauge numbers especially with this being a free period where accounts were reactivated.
Anyway.. I still play EQ and I'm not near 30 hours a week. Raiding down to 5 days a week and 4 hours a night at most. With the addition of the mercenaries EQ is a bit more casual friendly than it was a few years ago.

Re: Fippy Darkpaw (new Time Locked Server)
Yeah, I know it's a more time friendly game these days. playing on the normal server can be done pretty casually. But to go back to original rules, I threw a SK together on Vulak last night. They definitely retooled the xp bar back to slow again, probably close to 50 kills to level to 2. I guess it's a little easier than original because the offense/defense are at level 1 max already and the death penalty isn't like it was at launch. Pretty authentic though. People were either talking about the old days, bitching, or "laughing" at their good fortune getting shitty lowbie drops(Yes, you got a splintered club or cracked staff, it's awesome and shitty at the same time, I get it).

Re: Fippy Darkpaw (new Time Locked Server)
Noysy and I bumped into each other in Unrest. Was great fun!
I'm up to a Lvl 30 warrior. It's quite enjoyable on the server. We've already had Naggy/Vox drama between the two top guilds, and I am currently scrounging up enough platinum to complete my crafted armor quests. I couldn't be more pleased with how it's going.

Re: Fippy Darkpaw (new Time Locked Server)
I don't know a single person who quit EQ2 because of Velious... most people just got hooked by Rift.
From the 2 weeks I played velious, I thought it was a pretty good expansion.

Re: Fippy Darkpaw (new Time Locked Server)
Everyone quit EQ2 to get away from Noysy
I don't think people quit because of Velious...just that it was not good enough to compete with other things that came out at the same time.

I'm having fun playing a bit on Shards of Dalaya, a private emulator server that runs amazingly stable, with lots of fun changes. It has a good feel to it.

Re: Fippy Darkpaw (new Time Locked Server)
A little of both for me. Keep in mind, I only played EQ2 as 2-4 boxing since I quit raiding over a year ago. That, and I didn't want to go through several BG marathons again to re-gear...miir wrote:I don't know a single person who quit EQ2 because of Velious... most people just got hooked by Rift.

It would have taken quite a bit to keep me in the game anyway, as my play style was trending towards burnout.

Re: Fippy Darkpaw (new Time Locked Server)
If EQ went the way of micro-transactions and free to play like other MMO's out there (Runes of Magic comes to mind), the player base would greatly increase again imo. Lots of old timers would be logging back in as well.
Re: Fippy Darkpaw (new Time Locked Server)
Unfortunately they seem happy to have their cake (subscription fees) and eat it too (microtransactions aka Station Cash and LoN).
