Crysis 2
This multiplayer demo was released last night as an xbox exclusive. I think the demo is coming to the PS3 in a week or so. No word at all on a PC demo, which is really pissing off the PC crowd who consider Crysis "theirs".
I was expecting to love this game since I really enjoyed the first Crysis on PC. However, the demo was kind of a turn off for me. The graphics are great, but it feels like a mash up of CoD and Halo. That may sound like a match made in heaven to some, but for some reason the gameplay just felt slow to me. I confess that I only played about 5 matches, and I was raped over and over by people that had been playing the exact same map for hours and hours before I jumped in, but the game still was far from a home run for me. For one, goddamn do you drop fast. It only takes a couple of rounds to kill someone. It also has one melee hit kills and stealth, which is a cheesy fucking combo if I ever saw one. The map itself is really nice though. I need to play this more before I render final judgement. I'll be buying it just for single player, the multiplayer will be a bonus.
The PS3 version has not been shown to the public yet. This is causing all kinds of talk amongst the console fanatics. Many believe it's because the PS3 version is going to be vastly inferior. I think it's because MS is throwing out cash to make the game appear to be centered around the 360. Who knows the real reason right now, but it's something I'll be keeping an eye on.
Meanwhile, the PC version is set to become the new standard for graphics, replacing the previous Crysis. I'll grab the PC version in a couple of years during a Steam sale for a couple of bucks.

Re: Crysis 2
I loved it! My friends and I played it for a couple hours and will be playing it again tonight. The cross between CoD and Halo is the same thing I said, and I fucking love it.
It's fast paced, but not too fast paced if Halo is a bit over the top for your test. Precision seems to matter more than in other games, if you shoot someone in the upper chest or higher, they go down fast.. But if you shoot lower it seems like they take forever to go down, and they'll likely get you before you get them.
The stealth/melee is awesome. I love that they have the different suit modes from single player (in the first, I assume this one is the same) in multi-player as well. You just need to get to know how to use those different modes to your advantage. Also, you get kill streak rewards just like you do in CoD, I can't remember which one is the spy plane type thing, but you see them on your radar even if they are stealth when that's up. Use your mini map
I had so much fun playing this game that the fucked up matchmaking didn't even bother me. The PC people freaking out cracks me up, I read a bunch of that shit on the steam forum for the first game when I bought it. The sense of entitlement and superiority the PC gamers have is hilarious and pathetic at the same time.. I'd never really payed close attention to it even though I've played my fair share of PC games throughout the years, but I couldn't believe the pathetic claims people were making. CRYTEK IS OVER, SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU ABANDON YOUR FANS.. Haha... Right.. There were already 250,000 people on the DEMO leaderboards when I was playing last night. Sure looks like not putting the PC gamers "first" is really hurting them already.

Re: Crysis 2
It seems from what I've read that more people are being turned on to Crysis 2 than turned off after playing the demo.
Considering PS3's track record, I'd bet the PS3 game is inferior as well but also that Microsoft dished out some $$ to get an exclusive demo for a bit.

The reason this game is console-centric... piracy.
I read at some point that the number of pirated copies of Crysis and Crysis Warhead outnumbered the purchased copies 3-1.

I downloaded it last night but did not try it yet. This is one game I was looking at last year and was hoping would be good. I guess I will have to fire it up when I get home tonight.

Cut that shit out!50% movie piracy from Canada: Hollywood
As much as 50 per cent of the world's pirated movies come from Canada, prompting the film industry to threaten to delay the release of new titles in this country. According to an investigation by Twentieth Century Fox, most of the illegal recording, or "camcording," is taking place in Montreal movie houses
However, when it came to Canada, the IFPI had nothing good to say.
“Canada, practically the only government of a developed country not to have implemented international copyright treaties agreed over a decade ago, is a major source of the world's piracy problem. A disproportionate number of illegal sites are hosted on Canadian soil.”

Re: Crysis 2
I can hardly blame developers for shifing their focus to a platform where piracy isn't rampant.
Crysis/Crysis Warhead were awesome games.
I'll definately be picking this up (purchasing) this for PC or PS3.

Re: Crysis 2
Oh yeah, I can't wait for this to come out in stores. After the demo, I can't see any possible way any aspect of this game will be a let down for me.
Re: Crysis 2
That's their reason. That doesn't make it so. How many of those people would have purchased it anyway? It's their fault for making everyone think it required top of the line machines to run. The game pretty much ended up just a playable tech demo for their engine and a benchmarking program rather than a game I'm not going to bother with Crysis 2 since Crytek always keep fucking up the game by adding supernatural/alien shit. Starting with FarCry which was great the first half of the game where you were combating humans. Same goes for Crysis.miir wrote:The reason this game is console-centric... piracy.

Besides which the 360 has piracy. And now so too the PS3. Perphaps not rampant but existing all the same.

Well that's pretty much the only reason that matters. That's their reason.
You can have your own personal reasons but you're not a game developer... so they don't really hold much credibility.

Re: Crysis 2
You should thank pirates for copying games on the PS3. If they pirate the shit out of the PS3, maybe developers will go back to the PC since it won't matter as much anymore!
Re: Crysis 2
Does it matter? Losses from piracy can't be 'proven'. Just because something was downloaded does not mean that it was even played or that the person downloading it would have bought it if that was the only alternative. They are just using it as an excuse for their shitty game sales.miir wrote:Well that's pretty much the only reason that matters. That's their reason.

The fact is that more people buy and play games on consoles, end of story. I haven't seen piracy stated as a reason for Crysis 2 coming to consoles, so saying otherwise isn't fact at all. It's all up for debate.

Not up for debate.Because of piracy, Crytek President Cevat Yerli said the follow up to 2007's release of Crysis, Crysis Warhead, will be the last PC exclusive from the developer

Re: Crysis 2
I think they're lying. The game sold very well for a PC title. They'll sell more on console because that is where most people game now, not because of piracy.
The debate continues!

Re: Crysis 2
I agree. It's definitely up for debate. Saying it's not up for debate is inconceivable!
And also they didn't cite piracy as the reason it's coming to consoles they cited it as the reason for the last PC exclusive title. Totally not even the same thing!

Two words for this game after trying the multiplayer: gar bage
Everything about it just feels wrong and clunky. The movement is sluggish and just flat out sucks. The matchmaking was so god-awful that it literally took me an hour to get into one match. Just the way the movement worked alone made me vow to never load it up again and I am usually one to give games a real chance if they are on my short list of games I really want to play.

Re: Crysis 2
I don't get how people feel that way about it, but to each their own.
Personally if I never played another CoD game, I'd be happy, and this year with the amount of solid shooters coming out, that will be entirely possible.
I like the controls, I like that you can grab onto anything and climb up, I think the movement feels really fluid and fast, but not too extreme like Halo. The only thing that sucks is the matchmaking, but I'm hoping that's just due to not having all their servers up for the demo, but we'll see.

Re: Crysis 2
Picked this up last night, Best Buy was giving a $10 gift card with purchase so that was a nice bonus!
The campaign is a lot of fun, I love how you can approach the battles from a variety of angles, but it's not a full blown sandbox game like GTA, it's the perfect balance for me. I think this one also probably takes the crown for best looking console game away from Killzone 3, too.

Re: Crysis 2
Get Killzone! We need more people to play with online! I've actually maintained a positive k/d ratio in Killzone, which is a first for me in shooting games. The multiplayer in Killzone I think is superior, which isn't to say Crysis' isn't good, it's just that Killzone's kicks tons of ass.miir wrote:Crysis looks vibrant, colourful and bright... And yeah they definitely have two different styles, but the textures, and especially the lighting in Crysis is stunning on the consoles compared to anything I've seen.
Fair - if you end up getting it let me know if you want to do some multiplayer. No one else I know has the game yet, but a few are going to be getting it soon.
Re: Crysis 2
Make sure to get the 360 version!
The PS3 version of Crysis 2 has particular idiosyncracies. After playing both console versions, and playing through the same set of levels multiple times on both consoles, it became clear to a number of editors at IGN that the PS3 version is lacking somewhat in comparison to the 360 version of the game. The game still looks great on PS3, but the framerate is less consistent, the resolution is lower (in the neighborhood of 10% lower than the Xbox 360 release), and certain graphical effects and some lighting appear dialed back. In layman's terms, there are more jagged edges in the PS3 version of the game, and things get choppy more often than its 360 counterpart, which hurts controller response. The 360 is not immune to this, it just doesn't happen as often.

Re: Crysis 2
I got both this and Homefront for my birthday. I haven't had time to play anything lately, and of all things, I've been craving some Torchlight so I'll likely be playing that tonight. I was really happy to see both games though. She also cooked my favorite dinner! My wife is awesome. Not just in the video game sense, but in every way possible.
Don't get too upset Miir, it's looking like the PS3 will be the platform of choice next month for Mortal Kombat thanks in no small part to Kratos! Of course, MS has yet to announce it's console exclusive, but I can't imagine a better character for a MK game than Kratos. Gears characters have already been ruled out, and I just don't see the Halo universe meshing as well as Kratos, but maybe they'll surprise me. I'll be grabbing that game day 1 for sure (April 19th!).

Re: Crysis 2
Crysis 2 is a fun game and looks amazing. Homefront doesn't look as good, but is still a lot of fun too. I'm going to enjoy both games very much. Here's an interesting difference between the 2 that I notices after playing about an hour of each. In Crysis 2, I'm killing soldiers and I don't know why. I don't understand why these are the bad guys. In Homefront, before I fire a shot, I absolutely hate the occupying force with a passion (thanks to the opening intro) and it feels pretty good to kill them. "Feels good" as in, I know these guys are the bad guys. I know I'm the good guy. In Crysis 2, while very fun and nice looking, I still don't know why I'm killing these people. Both games have nice feeling guns so far.
I'm pretty amazed at the Crysis 2 graphics. Very clean and detailed. I also liked the name of the first achievement unlocked "Can it run Crysis?". haha

Re: Crysis 2
They spent a fortune on writers for Homefront.
Unfortunately, they seem to have not spent a fortune on designers.
I'm enjoying Crysis2 quite a bit.
Only about an hour and a half into it.
Graphics are phenomenal and I really like how you can use different tactics in enemy engaements.
You may not have noticed but whenever the PS3 has a superior version of a game, I never post quotes/observations from fanboy sites about it. I don't have to justify to myself that the PS3 is an excellent gaming platform.

Re: Crysis 2
No, it has happened. I know there was a particular action game that was actually rated better on PS3 and I had to decide which one I was going to get. I want to say Bayonetta, but I know that's not right. Could it have been Dante's Inferno? Well, it was something like that. While trying to decide, the xbox version was patched, so in the end it was moot for me. I simply expect the 360 versions to be the superior version of cross platform games at this point.Aslanna wrote:That's because it hasn't happened yet. Crysis 2 looks fantastic, but I do not remember being floored by the graphics at all during the multiplayer demo, which is odd to me. The gameplay feels powerful, but also a little "floaty" to me. Anyone else feel that way? The controls are tight and I like them better than Crysis 1 and it's radial menu.
And for Homefront, I'm not terribly interested in the "story", I was just impressed with a really nice lead-in that established how fucked up things are (very Half-Life 2ish). That part did a great job establishing my motivation (much better than Crysis 2 or Crysis 1). They had a mother and father gunned down in front of their 3-4yr old child. The child screams, cries and starts hugging the bodies. Pretty fucked up! I couldn't wait to start shooting those soldiers!
