Re: Divine Souls
Looks interesting Kwon, downloading the beta.
Re: Divine Souls
Tried this out for a little bit. The controls are a lot different than in a normal MMO. It's designed for a game controller. You can use Gamepad, Keyboard, or Mouse setup but the mouse/keyboard is a little wacky. You can't look around the screen if you have the cursor up. You have to use your wasd keys while in mouse mode which sucks because I like using my gamepad which I haven't programmed for this game yet.

Character screen. Characters look for good but you have almost zero choice in their creation. Some hair color and face type and that's it.
You are either Brawler (male), Fighter (female) or Mage (female) No choice in gender.

When you enter a zone, you can choose to join a party (haven't tried that yet) or go it alone.

After choosing party/solo, you can choose level area you want to go to for that zone. Kinda cool. Don't have to waste a lot of time traveling in this game.

I also like that it lets you select difficulty as well as maybe (not sure yet) what type of loot has best chance of dropping.

For a freebie online game, the help is very well done. Almost all things have video/animated help. Not bad for an import.
The first quest giver spoke in English and had extensive dialog although The conversation went back and forth between my character and the quest person with the EXACT same lady's voice speaking for both me and the Quest. No varied inflection or anything. Was odd. Perhaps it's due to beta and they'll use different voice actors for yourself and the Quest peeps later.
Also, the Quest lady kept foundling her boobs...not kidding...I think they wanted to show off the boob physics or something. She kept touching them for no reason. Forgot to take a screenshot. I guess I was too mesmerized by the bouncy boobs.

I played on easy mode and so far (we're talking level 1) it's been...easy! The mobs tend to surround you which is cool as opposed to piling up in front of you.

Animations are all good. The action is fast. You need to face your opponents. It's very directional, even for skills. With no mouse to click on anything, this is a little more challenging. I'm thinking would be cool if used a gamepad (they show an xbox gamepad as example in the help)

Beside left mouse attack/right mouse guard, you have key: E which grabs your opponent. Here I've got a mob in a choke hold before I slash it up.

Loot drops are visible. Hit R to pick them up. I couldn't use this particular item, class specific.

I went through several phases (you go through portals to each next phase) in my first area. Here I'm fighting the boss mob for the area.

Victory! You can see kill count in lower left corner. It's very much geared toward action (like Vindictus)

You are presented with your stats at the end of the zone/dungeon/whatever it is.

Not sure what happened here but before I could loot the boss, this bonus level popped up. I didn't fight but had to choose one of the three icons. It was some random guy on screen a s well and not me.

I won even though I didn't have to do anything.
The game is fun to hack and slash about. There's only three basic types so everyone looks the same. I think if you can get used to the controls, it might be fun for some people. I'll probably see if I can program my Saitek Controller for this game (it works, just not properly programmed)
Download is easy, not a lot of questions. less than 2GB download. Kinda lengthy patch process afterward.

Ah, I did get a screen after all. Above is the boob fondling Quest lady mentioned earlier!

This game's getting Kinect support in Korea:
PC MMO Divine Souls Claims Kinect Support
December 22nd, 2010 at 9:00 am
We’ve all seen the hacker, modder, and programmer circles go nuts with Kinect by writing programs to make 3d video, recognize sign language, many other neat things. The Korean developer GamePrix has confused many by announced Kinect support in it’s new PC MMO Divine Souls.
First it’s unclear if GamePrix is intending to use a driver developed by the public, an official driver from Microsoft, or if they just accidentally dropped a major secret about the Kinect’s future on PC.
In a description of the game the company writes that:
One would think that would be a huge selling point for this game but it’s very nonchalantly tossed in after seemingly making a bigger deal out of using a game pad.the game’s support of gaming pads make it resemble console games even more, and is scheduled to support Kinect, a new control system of Xbox360.
Seeing as the Kinect is technically a camera, a complicated camera mind you, it could totally be used for PC gaming unless there is something about the Kinect that would make that difficult. A keyboard and mouse with a Kinect could lead to some interesting ideas. Now lets all wish really hard for that to happen.
