Two American buddies are backpacking across Europe, starting in Nothern England when they get jumped by a werewolf. One man dies, the other lives on as an American Werewolf in London.
I bought the Blu Ray of this move for 10$ because I had recently watched a "top 10 horror movies on Blu Ray" review and this was ranked #1. Well, it must've been #1 for the movie itself, which is excellent, because the picture looked like an upconverted DVD. I don't usually make a point of talking about film quality and all that, but movies like this a are the reason why people aren't replacing their collections with HD versions. Anyway, I really enjoyed the movie. I saw bits and pieces of this when I was, like, 10 years old. Most of it was sketchy at best in my memory. I'm really glad I bought this movie. I totally understand the cult status. It has aged exceptionally well IMO. Many modern filmmakers could take a que from the simplicity of the story. As the end of the film approached, there was no huge twist or morailty tale. It just came to a very natural conclusion with little to no major build up or let down. The acting is good and the special effects are top notch. They basically invented an Oscar Award for special effects beacuse of this movie. Thanks Rick Baker!

But one great scene does not a great movie make! I actually thought the attack in the subway was just as well done, and that was just POV camera work!

I agree, but when you look at the impact that one scene, or multiple scenes, has made on the industry as a whole...its a 10/10.

Oh, and let's not forget David Naughton also knocked his role of Dan O'Callahan out of the park in the bitchin' Hot Dog: The Movie.
American Werewolf in London definitely holds up today if nothing else for a great script. Landis also directed the crap out of it.

Lets not forget the great song, Werewolves of London by Warren Zevon!
I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand,
Walking through the streets of Soho in the rain.
He was looking for the place called Lee Ho Fook's,
Going to get a big dish of beef chow mein.
Ahhwooooo... Werewolves of London, Ahwooooo!
Ahhwooooo... Werewolves of London, Ahwooooo!
You hear him howling around your kitchen door,
You better not let him in.
Little old lady got mutilated late last night,
Werewolves of London again.
Ahhwooooo... Werewolves of London, Ahwooooo!
Ahhwooooo... Werewolves of London, Ahwooooo! Huh!
He's the hairy handed gent who ran amok in Kent,
Lately he's been overheard in Mayfair.
You better stay away from him,
He'll rip your lungs out, Jim,
Huh! I'd like to meet his tailor.
Ahhwooooo... Werewolves of London, Ahwooooo!
Ahhwooooo... Werewolves of London, Ahwooooo!
Well, I saw Lon Chaney walking with the Queen,
Doing the Werewolves of London.
I saw Lon Chaney, Jr. walking with the Queen,
Doing the Werewolves of London.
I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's,
And his hair was perfect.
Ahhwooooo... Werewolves of London, Huh! Draw blood!
Ahhwooooo... Werewolves of London...
