Fallout: New Vegas

Post by Winnow »

Played a little of this today. Seems like more of the same which is a good thing if you liked the first one. Graphics feel a little dated. (I think the PS3 will be able to handle these graphics)

I know the character generator isn't a big part of this game but it's horrible. It's the only game I'd rather play a male character in because it's impossible to make a character worth looking at. The way they introduce your new face and abilities isn't as original as in the first one.

3rd person view still seems awkward.

Looking forward to seeing how the story is. Pretty sure Colonel Saul Tigh from BSG is the voice of the doctor in the beginning of the game.

I just put a couple hours into it and as Winnow said, there doesn't seem to be much difference than Fallout 3 which I could never get into. Lots of aimless wandering, way too many places to put skill points, dull landscape (not as bad as Fallout 3 though - and granted I have yet to get to "Vegas" where it's likely to be colorful) and the character models still look like something from the 90's. I may play it a bit longer unless I get unlazy and burn a copy of Castlevania or ArcaniA to try them out. But so far I'm glad I didn't plop down $60 for this. If you're a Fallout fan I'm sure you'll love it.

I was a big fan of the last one and am loving this one. Yep, a whole lot of more of the same. They also added a much bigger crafting element. You can make ammo, customize the ammo (armor piercing, hollow point), and also use campfires to craft foodstuffs and meds. So some harvesting of the desert flora is required.
Certain weapons can be modded as well (increased ammo capacity, silencer, +damage, etc).

Faction management seems to play a bigger role in this release.

And the presidential suite you get in Vegas is a pretty happenin' pad, daddy-o!

Started playing this last night :D Against my better judgment I started the game on hardcore, because I'm a filthy achievement whore. Loving it so far!

Put a lot of hours into this while waiting for Fable 3 to come out and two things.. first it's somehow addictive, though certainly not because of graphics. Second, holy crap is it buggy right now - probably the buggiest game I've ever played on the 360. And the wasp looking Cazerac (sp) things are way overpowered.

This is 20$ at Future Shop for both the 360 and PS3.

I finished this before all the bugs were fixed and it was a decent enough game if you're into this. I like open worlds and once I got higher level (and did the money glitch) it was more enjoyable. I didn't 100% it as it's simply too vast for my interest. At higher levels with the ability to zip around the country faster and actually survive it was better. But the side quests and stuff were still annoyingly monotonous. Doing this the legit way would never have happened for me. It's just too much of the same all the time.
