Dead Rising 2

Post by Canelek »

Just got this in on Saturday so my girlfriend and I popped it in and messed around for about an hour.

First off - If you did not like the first one, don't bother with this one. It seems more of the same as far as gameplay, controls, missions and gathering survivors--only much prettier and with many many more zombies.

As for me, I enjoyed the piss out of the first one, which was 360-exclusive. This one is available on 360, PS3 and PC. It also features online play--co-op and I believe some variety of VS modes.

The game occurs years after the story in Willamette. Willamette and Las Vegas have fallen and a new city was born--Fortune city--where people compete in a quasi Running Man sort of competition, only for money, not freedom. (HINT: There are zombies involved.) You play a former motocross star that competes in the event. The wife was lost a ways back due to a zombie outbreak so it is pretty much just you and your daughter, who just happens to have the virus--barely held in check by a drug called Zombrex.

It seems you have made some enemies, because something very bad is about to happen in Fortune City...

---

I'm bummed there is no 2-player split option, because I was really wanting to have that option. It seems like that is becoming less popular or something. Meh!

Oh well, that is how it goes. What I really like about this game is that you can basically just jump right in and figure out how to work with the tools available (weapons, food, etc). There is a new weapon feature that allows some weapon varieties to be combined into 2. Zombie mayhem is cranked up a notch here, with improved AI and a fuckload more zombies. Once again, visuals are excellent considering the sheer population. Voice acting and plot also seem a big step up from the original.

The bad: Load times and the camera is not as responsive as I'd like. I may just need to fuck with the options a bit though.

Good stuff, overall!

Oh, I really hated the photography bit in the first game. I do not see it in the new one, so that is nice.

Can you play online with other people or is it a Single-player game?

EDIT: Read the online co-op! lol

Been playing it co-op on the PC, it's pretty good. Better than the first on pretty much every count, but it isn't reinventing the wheel. The combo weapons is the biggest addition, and it's pretty damned cool. Creating a Stephen Hawking wheelchair of death out of a car battery, wheelchair, and an assault rifle is pretty damned satisfying. And around case 6 they really ramp up the difficulty, hooey.

You picked my favorite weapon as well!

I've enjoyed this game much more than the first one.. Granted its pretty much the same gameplay with the exception of the new weapon combos (Hacker anyone?), the fact that they allowed you to coop it makes up for it.. Lots of downside and bugs with the online coop as of right now that I really hope they fix soon. Not a fan of only one person being able to save the game and the second only being able to have his character progression.. Also whenever player 1 saves it disconnects player 2 which gets really fucking annoying..

If you havent tried it yet, you must do the TiR Multiplayer games.. freaking hilarious.. do a ranked match and you can take the money you win into your single player or online coop game.. good for zombrex!

Haven't had any disconnect issues when my friend saves.

And yeah I've played TiR some. Gotta get the achievements! I'm a savant at Master Shafter, and I do ok at Ramsterball, but I'm terrible at like Slicecycles. Was infuriating earlier, I was dominating completely in an episode and it disconnected during Slicecycles. Grr! I just need the achievement to come in first in all the game types.
