Most of the 'warez' floating around the net are new things... I doubt you'll be able to find Icewind Dale 1 anywhere. I would check Newsgroups though, if you haven't already. There might be a group you can request it from.

Too often it seems it is the peaceful and innocent who are slaughtered. In this a lesson may be found that it may not be prudential to be either too peaceful or too innocent. One does not survive with wolves by becoming a sheep.

Newsgroups are one of the best sources for, well, just about any software. They have always been a major source of DVD rips, music in various formats, applications for all platforms, and games for all systems, even consoles. And let's not forgot the wealth of pR0n of all varieties. But I've noticed a startling number of the "current generation" that isn't even aware they exist. It's as if it doesn't exist if it's not on a website or a peer-to-peer sharing network. Yet newsgroups are usually where you will find everything first.

Every ISP has a news server or news access. You just need a program to browse it. You can actually use the built-in one with your web browser of choice, but I highly recommend a client program like NewsPro, or the one I use, Agent. There's a bit of learning involved, but it's well worth the trouble. There's also a pay for newsgroup subscription service if your ISP has filtered many newsgroups. I'll try to find the information for that one, and post it here if anyone's interested. I don't use it, but I have a lot of friends who do, and it has ALL the newsgroups. They filter nothing :D

i think what takes the place of the newsgroups these days are the peer to peer programs like kazaa, morpheus, etc

ive never been a big downloader of games since EQ took up all my game playing time over the last 3 years+ =p... all i usually dload are mp3s or videos *cough*...and kazaa has never let me down for that. guess ill start using newsgroups then =p

With cable modem, a newsreader like BNR2, and multiple connections, you can download 1 gigabyte an hour on newsgroups. Hard to beat that elsewhere.

Icewind Dale and the expansion are together in a set for 12$ at Best Buy.

I have a friend who is obsessed with DLing the latest and greatest games. Saves me the hassle. I have no idea where he gets them, although he mentions FTP servers OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS.

I find Kazaalite to be the best file transfer program around. They have the latest version... And frankly, no need to browse through servers in order to find one with the file you have - the research will hit all the users. Which leads me to believe the total amount of files will be less than that of Direct, but it's much easier to browse. And so far, I've found a truckload of stuff ( including full programs and movies ) with no problems.

if you are a ftp junky i know oth.net used to be a great place to find ftp sites to trade files on.

edit: i checked oth for icewind dale and there were a shitload of working ftp sites with it available. most have various upload:download ratios. might be worth a try.
