Alien vs Predator

I picked this up last month during the 30$ game deal at Kmart. I played a bit of the multiplayer demo as a marine and thought "I'll get it when it's on sale". I really didn't expect the sale to be so soon!

The single player consists of a campaign for each of the 3 races (aliens, marines, and predators). I'm into the marine missions right now and I'm really lliking the game. It's a standard corridor shooter so far, but due to the setting it gets some serious bonus points from me. They nailed the sounds, that's for sure! They've even managed to use what little environments we've seen from the movies to create a nice atmosphere. It looks like you can jump between the campaigns whenever you finish a mission for a particular race. I haven't done it, but it seems like a fun concept. The only problem I have now is that the aliens are bullet sponges. The Pulse rifle seems pretty weak. It can also be frustrating only being able to see where your flashlight is pointing due to the amount darkness (but I guess that's the point!).

I jumped into multiplayer last night. I tried multi when I first got the game and couldn't find any matches, so I was a bit worried but everything went fine. I jumped into an FFA deatchmatch as an alien and HOLY SHIT this game is fucking crazy. Aliens, predators, and marines were swarming all over the place hunting each other down. It was one of the craziest multiplayer experiences I've ever had. I played one match and had to take a break. Marines are pretty much standard FPS stuff, but the aliens are vertigo inducing craziness. You can climb up the walls and ceilings of anything you see. You're a melee class only so you have to use speed and surprise to your advantage. It was a lot of fun! After a single match I unlocked a new alien skin for multiplayer. You can get these unlocks for all the classes. The aliens can see all the other race's outlines in multiplayer, even through walls. The marine has a motion tracker that lets him know which direction enemies are coming, and the predator can leap as well as use a variety of weapons and visual enhancements like in the movies.

After playing multiplayer a bit, I cannot wait to do the campaigns for the other races now.

In short, the game is better than I hoped or expected. It's pretty solid so far. I would recommend, especially if you get it on the cheap.

The other races are actually a lot of fun.. I picked this up and never gave it enough attention, especially since RDR. Going to start showing this some more love when i'm bored (whenever that'll be) of RDR...

The only thing I didn't like about it was the match making in multiplayer.. Once in a game though its awesome.
