Re: Kick-Ass
Im looking forward to it too, love the comic.
At the same time, i dislike it a bit, because this is a comic adaption where the comic was ONLY made to make a movie of it, why the hell then not just make the movie without the comic?. If you plan to do an EIGHT issue miniseries, and have the movie trailer out BEFORE issue 7 is printed, you are just tryign to cash in on superhero movies, nothing else.

This movie looks great!
Feels like a cult classic in the making since you don't hear much about this movie, or at least not on the blockbuster scale.

Re: Kick-Ass
Sadly, it wasn't all that good. It sort of betrays its own premise and (much like the comicbook) abandons the interesting ideas in favor of more Michael Bay-esque explosions and gadgetry. 3 out of 5 for me.

Well that's a bummer coming from a fan of The Boys series as well.

Fun movie! Far from perfect but entertaining.
Hit Girl steals the show. She reminds me of a female version of Tanner from the original Bad News Bears.

Re: Kick-Ass
This is an awesome comic book movie. Hit Girl is amazing. But the M on Red Mist's chest makes me think of McLovin.

Re: Kick-Ass
I thought it was awesome as well. I thought the action scenes with Big Daddy and Hit Girl (especially the "lights out" scene) were some of the best I've seen in a movie in a long time.

Re: Kick-Ass
It only made 20 million on it's opening weekend. Granted, the budget was a mere 30 mllion, but I doubt we'll get to see the sequel that they keep mentioning.
I'll buy the dvd for sure, but I don't want to see this enough to brave the theater.

Re: Kick-Ass
My brother said the same thing. And honestly, as sweet as this movie was, there was only one part that was truly worth seeing in the theater.

Re: Kick-Ass
Unfortunate side effect of this film: I've had the theme song from the Banana Splits stuck in my head for 2 days.

Re: Kick-Ass
Saw it last night. I never laughed so much. I thought it was freaking awesome. I think it is worth seeing in the theatre even paying evening prices. I found myself laughing in the car on the way home as well. Trying to get to sleep I was still chuckling at parts of the movie I was remembering. This will be a must own for me.
Re: Kick-Ass
Saw it last night, a lot funnier than i expected. And the action scenes rocked. Definitely one to buy too, i liked it more than the comic.

Re: Kick-Ass
(i haven't read this thread at all so if this is redundant, my apologies!)
This film was amazing. The kid from Superbad (Red Mist) usually annoys the hell out of me, but since he was the antagonist here, I didn't mind so much.
That little girl nearly made me spit out my drink when she called all of those guys "cunts." I don't know why. But it was awesome. Pretty much all of her lines in the film are pure hilarity.
Overall a bit campy, but I'm pretty sure that's the intent so it adds humor rather than making the movie unwatchable. The action scenes were pretty fucking excellent. The acting was good, particularly the little girl. I even found the plot to be pretty decent, as far as immersion goes, because these "superheroes" seem more relatable than in most "superhero" films.

Re: Kick-Ass
So I too watched this movie last night... came here to write about it because it's pushing up to be my new favorite movie... skimmed through about 5 pages and couldnt find it, went back to page 1 and there it is on top... Are you people stalking me?
I was totaly expecting a campy ass comedy, along the lines of Pinaple Express, then Hit Girl started killing mofos. I was in shock. GENIOUS!
"So your tellin me, Batman stole my drugs?"
"I never said Batman"
Then Big Daddy shows up looking exactly like batman, with guns!

Re: Kick-Ass
I figured I'd post here instead of making a new thread.
I downloaded the movie, "Super" several months back but never got around to watching it. Kick-Ass cam out around the same time and this movie had a similar theme about an ordinary person going super hero.
It's not as good as Kick-Ass but it's pretty fucked up and funny at times.
Rainn Wilson (Dwight from The Office) is the lead character who's been unhappy for most of his life with his wive (Liv Tyler), a recovering drug addict, being the one bright spot. She relapses and leaves up for a drug dealer and the rest of the movie is about Franks (The Crimson Bolt) getting her back. Along the way, he picks up a side kick played by Ellen Page.
This movie is more demented than Kick-Ass. The violence almost goes Toxic Avenger style at times. Once he gets rolling, Crimson Bolt clubs people with a wrench but it's not cute or pretty, he beats them bloody. It's dark humor here. Ellen Page plays a slightly psycho comic book shop clerk that figures out Frank's identity and becomes his sidekick but she's even more fucked up than he is.
The movie starts out a little slow and seems pretty bad to be honest for awhile but it picks up. Ellen Page steals the show for while. There's a sex scene that's one of the funniest I've seen in awhile (and pretty fucked up!).
Nathon Fillion (Firefly) has a small part as the Holy Avenger. Kevin Bacon is the bad guy.
Similar to Kick-Ass but darker and with more gore. Sample:

If you liked Kick-Ass and you have a way to check out this movie, it might be worth watching.

Super is a fucking terrible movie.
Ellen Pages perfomance is wasted in this load of shit.

Re: Kick-Ass
It's not wasted if people watch the movie. I made it clear the movie might appeal to a niche group of viewers at best.

Re: Kick-Ass
There's a many reasons Super made less than $325K... The main reason is that it's really fucking horrible.
If you actually enjoyed this, you have shitty taste in movies.
