New Info on Joe Millionaire?

Post by Sylvus »

http://entertainment.msn.com/news/artic ... ews=112826

A couple episodes ago while watching the show, one of my friends speculated that he actually has money. I think it'd make an interesting twist if he revealed that he was po' and checked out the girl's reaction, and then revealed that he wasn't actually. Perhaps he's more intelligent than we initially gave him credit for. Doubtful, but possible. I can't believe how hooked I am on this show...

So what you are saying is that the joke really isn't on the shallow wenches but on the view audience?

You think he had to have lessons to talk like a po boy and to actually drink "BEER" instead of wine and such?

Are you saying that he knows DAMN WELL which fork is which?

Well, I'm willing to bet he's at least got a million dollars now that the show is done filming. I'm sure Fox paid him at least that much.

I've thought about it. But either he is a pretty good actor or he really is a bufoon, not bad looking one at that.

If he is in fact rich or from rich family, acting like a moron isn't that hard. Even his numerous slip ups can be acts. If he's just a rich brat show like that may be just fun experience giving his ego national exposure.

If he is in fact poor, acting rich is a bit harder but as we see can be done. He's had good teachers. And he presents himself well, that is until he opens his mouth. His grasp of language fits an image of an average construction worker, his vocabulary is pretty limited. He can't carry a conversation if his life depended on it.

Name kinda screams "rich" especially when he finally after much thought and "going through names in my family" came out with Elder as his middle name. For all I know this whole name can be fake too.

What I would be satisfied with at the end of the show is:
if he's rich pretending to be poor pretending to be rich - if he decides that all they see in him is money just have fun with them while it lasts, laugh it off, get money that's offered and many other business offers that are bound to come and move on. Maybe even with a girl if he really clicks with one of them.

if he's really poor pretending to be rich - pretty much the same scenario, I would just hope that he gets a lot of money for this stint. He really is digging a hole beneath him.

It would be fun to find out the poor construction worker image is true. I don't see any of the remaining girls really falling for him. Well they say that stuff to the camera but it sounds more fake than Meg Ryans orgasm scene in When Harry met Sally.

What makes you say that? He saw Heidi for what she was pretty quickly, and she was by far the biggest gold-digger on that show. I think that he may have been a little hasty in choosing "Mojo" from when she wouldn't shut up on the group date, but she's got a hot little body so I'll allow it.

I think Zora just isn't doing real well because of the TV aspect. I think she seems to be the least motivated by the money, and she's been my odds-on favorite since the first episode when she couldn't fit in that one dress.

We don't know what these women are whispering into is ear off camera. If one of the women whispered, "I can suck the chrome off a trailor hitch" off air to him it might influence his selections.

My guess is that Fox will announce they are giving the newlywed couple one million dollars or so after the drama is over. Sylvus' suggestion that he does actually have money isn't bad either.

Joe Millionaire would be a one hit wonder if everyone gets screwed in the end...you wouldn't have nearly as many high quality loot whore contestants next time if there's no payoff.

pay off or not I don't see how the sequel is suppose to draw an audience

the only element of surprise gone it will become another bachelor/who wants to marry a millionaire clone.

this show has one hit wonder written all over, with the exception of Jane Millionaire where the roles and financial outcome are reversed

I dunno, I'm sure he'll get paid a lot so he WILL have a million, but he'll still be a relatively un-educated dumbass who has no class. I mean it's obvious that he has no class the way he holds himself, the way he eats, the way he acts. I dunno, if he in fact wasn't a lowly construction worker before and actually HAS money, than he's a DAMN good actor to be trying to portract a classless bafooon who is trying to act like he has money. Think about how hard it would be fore someone who has money to ACT like someone who doesn't ACTING like he does. Anyhow, in the ballpark scheme of things, what's 1 million dollars when he's just simply going back to his old house/appartment/job when he's done. If he's smart he's saving up EVERY penny and will suck as much cash out of the spotlight as he can with talkshows and such even after the show is done. Then when he's done raping the spotlight, then will go back to school, learn something he'll enjoy, get a degree and get a good paying job. Noone can live forever off 1 million dollars alone.

Well, I doubt Fox will be paying him $1M to star in the show. I'm sure someone else around here who is more familiar with the way the entertainment industry works could comment better on it, but it would seem to me that Fox wouldn't wouldn't pay someone off the street that much. I'd assume he's getting paid some money and gets to keep clothes and things that they bought him for the show.

As far as him seeming like he has no class, that isn't a very good gauge of whether or not he actually has money. Having money by no means implies that someone couldn't still be a 'classless bafooon'.

A million invested semi-conservatively will bring in a decent living without touching the principle. You'd definately have an upper middle class income at the very least.

I know a couple millionaires, and one multi-billionaire. Money does not bring class, manners or anything else. It's just another person, who has a lot more money than the person next door to you.

The multi-billionaire is an ex-boss, he drives a Camry and shops at WalMart. Great guy :)

I'd say a 7.125% interest would be easy to maintain on a long term investment.

Don't beleive me?
http://www.bygpub.com/finance/InterestCalc.htm

Check out what it says where you plug in your interest rate...
current CD rates run between 5% and 6%, while the stock market has returned an average of 10% or so for many years. 12% is an amount that a shrewd investor might hope to get over a long period of time
Now you have certain facotrs you have to weigh in when you get $1,000,000.

1. Taxes are going to crush that number...I mean your going to lose maybe 30% of it up front =/ In Joe millionaires case it would be "earnings" not "winnings" or "inheritance" so he won't suffer the higher taxes people that get it via other means might pay.

2. He probably has some debt...not like I mean he is flat broke...but we all have debt...house, car, credit cards...those should be paid off. The rates you pay on those are usually higher then what you get on an investment, and it's GAURANTEED.

3. Retard factor....how much cash will he dump immediately on stupid shit like a ferrari or a $400,000 home? Things he doesn't need...you make a few bold moves like that and you can file for bankruptcy in 5 years easily after you overextend yourself.....1million doesn't last long in some peoples hands.

But say he pays his taxes, pays his car off, pays off all his credit cards, and pays and spends maybe $150,000 (over his current home, including furniture).

That leaves $500,000 or so to invest.
$35,625 per year at 7.125% on $500,000.
Keep in mind that's with your house and car and credit cards all paid off...your expenses are food, cable, phone, gas, insurance...

So, 1 million could make a careful person able to retire....he just would be middle class.

But if a smart person got $1,000,000 he would continue to work....just work doing something he likes...if he pulled in say $40k/yr he would be living really well...because he has no expenses..can buy a slighly larger home...and he wouldn't have to save for retirement or anything too much because he would just live off the interest.

Yea guys don't marry chicks for their money. the only way a guy could get shocked on a show like that is if after the wedding the chick says *surprise, you get no nookie, I am off to join the covenant*

A guy would get a divorce faster than this chick on Joe Millionaire will.

A million dollars would last 3 lifetimes in rural Arkansas. Meanwhile in New York, you'd be lucky if you make it last 15-20 years.

I'd just move the cheapest location I could find and live like a king.

I think you guys missed it when I saide "one million dollara ALONE". Being smart, investing it, living off the intrest of the investments, etc, etc. YES that is smart and a good way to make your money make a living for you, but again, that's not ALONE. I doubt this guys knows how to properly invest and take the time to make his money work for him. Also, if I were a construction worker, I'd want to goto college and get a full education in something fun that I could do like music or art or hell what about industrial welding in 3-dimensional art. Along with that, make my money make money for me. But still, you can't LIVE off of one million dollars ALONE, that's what my point was.

Another show idea:

Some hottie is courted by 10ish men over the course of 6 episodes only to reveal in the last episode that she's a man, baby! Yeah!

I'd watch it.

Made me think of pet detective :) The end was the only good part of the movie, in more ways than one.

*Edit - I've never watched the show, but if he's truly the bumpkin he sounds like, he'd blow the money and be a construction worker again in a year.

Look at all the folks in pro sports that are broke 5 years after retireing. Even MJ is having finacial woes, he might have to close his amusment park.

Technically, Fox doesn't even have to pay him. If he signs a waiver, saying that he agrees to be shown on television for participating in a contest, he could 'work' for free. His reward would be that Fox pays for all his dates, travel and arrangements -- and gives him the publicity of being on a hit show. I'm guessing Fox paid him scale (i.e., minimum wage for actors on a television series), which would be considerably less for a non-scripted ("reality") series than for a scripted show.

The real money he stands to make will come from endorsements. If he gets a commercial offer or two, he'll make some decent cash (though nowhere near $1M). If he gets nothing else, he'll probably be able to carve out a career for himself on the talk show circuit. How long that lasts is anyone's guess.

I have thought about the idea that he might be an actual millionaire, but I doubt it. It would have been a great premise, but the guy seems *way* too stupid to be acting. Who knows? Maybe he's just the world's greatest actor.

Um no interest is in fact living off the 1 million alone, because all you do is go to the bank and tellt hem you want to buy a CD every 6 months and put the net gain from the lst one in your checking account.

Anyone who gets 1 million dollars is smart enough to go to the bank and ask them about how to invest, and even a stupid investor can pull 5% without breaking a sweat.

And ya guys usually don't give a shit about money...we have to pay for all the dinners etc anyway even if she is a billionaire so who gives a shit.

A reverse show would be either yes the "she's a man baby" concept...or something similar like "she's a hooker" or "small time porn star"...or even something more simplistic....she just won't put out. Watch the men pull thier hair out while they date a hot hot hot chick who won't put out....

Thanks for the insight, Millie. I figured it would work something like that, though I assumed they paid him more than scale. "I'm sure someone else around here who is more familiar with the way the entertainment industry works could comment better on it" was directed entirely at you, it was just the long way of writing your name. :)

You've got a lot more faith in people than I do :)

A freinds family won ~15 million in a lawsuit against a car manufacturer. All of them but him were broke again ~12 months later. They bought houses, cars, took trips, etc.. and were baffled where all the money went.

They had to sell most of what they'd purchased over the next few years as they couldn't even afford the upkeep, insurance, etc.

Jay blew a good bit of his share, but most of it is tucked away. Most of the family is pissed because he won't share his remaining funds.

Well, I assume when you go to deposit 1 million dollars a bank will tell you of some better options....like when you open a checkign account they will tell you of several checking opportunities some with interest and some without, and try and get you to open a savings account.

However I didn't say they will follow the advice.......I full heartedly agree that a truly stupid person will do just as your friends family did.

I have no doubt that eventually when something similar happens with my family that i will probably be one of the few who has money still 5 years later....and like your friend...I will tell the rest of my family to kindly fuck off when they ask for money...they had the same as me...they blew it...fuck them.

And yes, I WILL be put in that position. I've already given it a lot of thought about how it will go down, hearing your friends story just backs up what I think will happen.
