I would like to thanks Celestial Tomb for letting me loot a PoG BP, helm, and spell for my Beastlord. I really appreciate your generosity!
Special thanks to Thess (for offering it) and Teurde (for rezzing me).

Hmmm... at times...
Yea... Hate it when we are allowed to get flamed on flamevault for other guilds issuing loot to characters. I still get tells in game from level 46s and 47s 'Hey, can I come with you to PoG to get phat lewt from mobs?!'. Also the tells from Claritin are disturbing, all the pr0n and having sex with clothes washers gets old fast.

Those were the days eh? The glorious days of EQ
Will we ever see such a thing again in MMORPGs of the future?
Bring back non-instanced dungeons/areas with the whole server contesting the mobs!
Imagine the rage of Xboxers/PS3:ers all over the world.

Forming up in 10 minutes for a Wuoshi raid. Gonna take him out then move into PoG for a shot at Tunare.
Hopefully those CoE fags stay the hell out of the way, keep an eye out for Azian to also maybe train us on Wuoshi.

Ya know as a side note, I was talkin to my soe bud giving my opinion on what was needed to make the 'next big shit' mmo... and he kinda glazed over, then said they were working on that very thing... Only time will tell whether they can pull it off.Kwonryu DragonFist wrote:Those were the days eh? The glorious days of EQ

Not gonna mention what the concept is, well because he told me not to and he is a friend.
Point is, if they can do it right, it will be the heady days of early EQ and UO all over again. =)

Re: Thanks CT :)
But can they capture what was fun about EQ without all the bullshit that eventually drove away everyone but the most devoted EQ fanbois?
Remember this: the biggest flaw in EQ wasn't the steamrolling or killstealing. It was the tedium of sitting in the same place, literally for days on end, waiting for a spawn. Post-WoW, that shit will not fly unless you wrap it up in lolicon and market it to Koreans and Winnow.

Re: Thanks CT :)
Yeah as much as it pissed everyone off at the time the drama and tedium is what (what a bunch of sadistic fucks we are) kept us playing that game. With the current climate of the video game market (we won't fund it unless it's gonna go gold pre release), you aren't going to get someone to fund a MMO like that, because it will never appeal to the WoW mass market.
There is a thread about the differences in WoW and EQ going on in the WoW general forum right now and most of the eq haters flat out stated it was too time consuming or difficult for them and that's why they like WoW more. This is why WoW has the subscribers it has, not because it's necessarily a superior product.
I would love another game like EQ, but the reality of it is the more hard core shit that entails doesn't interest most people, and the lowest common denominator is who games are developed for. This is the same reason why JRPGs have taken a turn for simplicity.. they weren't mainstream enough because they weren't easy/fast enough. It's a sad trend imo, but it's reality and it isn't going anywhere.
EDIT: I think one of the biggest feature changes of the more recent MMO's that has changed from EQ days that changed things is instances. All but taking out the competition factor detracts from a lot of aspects of the game, namely social aspects, whether you view them as positives or not. The problem is, doing away with instanced dungeons isn't conducive to a WoW type player base..

Re: Thanks CT :)
EQ was a pretty simple, slow paced game.
MMOs these days are more much more fast paced.
The slower pace in EQ allowed for a lot more socializing and player interaction.
That was the biggest appeal for a lot of players, myself included.
I've run many instances (in EQ2 or WOW) where some people in the group don't say a single fucking word in voice or text chat.

Level grinding and camping is an art. Anyone that camped the fishbone earring in EQ knows the willpower required to be a true master of Campery. (unless you were smart and logged on right after a server reset to kill Haden) A player's ability to grind levels or camp says a lot about how they might survive in isolation or prison. While a veteran EQ player would have the metal and patience to withstand years of isolation waiting, not knowing when or if something would "pop" to end their time spent in prison, WoW players would flip out and kill themselves within days.masteen wrote: Remember this: the biggest flaw in EQ wasn't the steamrolling or killstealing. WoW pussies have no idea what to do unless they are spoon fed quests and download 100 Add-Ons to babysit them through their levels.

Re: Thanks CT :)
I'd love to see another game like classic EQ.. waiting on boats, 20 minute boat rides, praying someone in the next town can cast bind - and will be willing to..
But I wouldn't play it. Too much has changed in the last 11 years.

Heh, fishbone camp was at least predictable... Eyepatch of Plunder (I think, damn griffon) and Jboots were the worst camp for me... I killed something like 20,000 froglocks (im actually not sure what the number was, may have been more, mass slaughtering took place for months before my faction moved) on the dead side lower guk in order to get Winnow the wood elf illusion mask! That's insano type stuff that people don't do in these new games!

One my favorite(and least favorite) camps ever.. Remember sitting there for about nine hours at lvl 28 with my lvl 56 wizzy friend before that damn AC spawned.. but still was good times.

Fuck that JBoot camp. Seriously. I stayed up for 70 hours dual boxing Bubba's cleric with Jice to camp that fucking thing, with people constantly tryin to come in and press me out of the camp. That was my 4th of July weekend, that year.
As for making a game like EQ in a post WoW environment, not a chance. Taking instancing out of dungeons would severly limit the kind of interesting scripted stuff they can currently do and I never ever want to play a game where a bunch of zerging pricks or timezone cock blockers can ruin a chance at fun. Winnows prison analogy is spot on and we got kept in the prison for so long because the jailers bought so much additional time by pitting people against each other. I swear, with the exception of PoG drudgery runs, more time got spent avoiding getting rolled in that game than actually raiding the shit.

War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .
Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.
--RICHARD M. NIXON, "REAL PEACE" (1983)
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, represents, in the final analysis, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."
Dwight Eisenhower
