Coupling
Any of you seen this English comedy (TV series)? A friend gave me a videotape of several episodes.
Some of it is really funny stuff. It's like a English version of "Friends".
Anyway, I heard they are making new episodes (or they already made them and are going to air them soon)

My wife and I discovered this show on cable (BBC America) the other day and are completely hooked. It's hilarious! I guess it is a little bit like friends in that it has 3 guys and 3 girls, but Coupling is pretty much all about sex! Very funny, I strongly recommend it.

Yeah, it's 3 guys and 3 girls, but they're all friends, 2 are dating each other and they've pretty much all slept together. They hang out in a bar instead of a coffee house, but that's how it started with Friends, too.Galdraith EQ wrote:My wife and I discovered this show on cable (BBC America) the other day and are completely hooked. I like British comedies because even when they aren't making a joke, the difference in the way they talk makes me laugh. "Stop staring at me bum" is funnier than "Stop staring at my butt".

Cool, thanks for the info. I wasn't sure how long Coupling had been out, ( I was one of the "too lazy to look it up") but apparently they have finished season 3, so I have some catching up to do.
As much as I like the show, the Opening/Closing of the show licks balls. The visual is like something from the 60's, and the song sucks hard. Guess they can't all be Rembrandts. (That was a pun...shut up)

There's quite a few Brit comedies I like- The Young Ones and Fawlty Towers come to mind. I have Black Adder 2 and Dad's Army collection sitting in my bn.com shopping cart and already have The Young Ones collection ordered.
There's also Benny Hill- that usually makes me laugh, as well as the already mentioned Monty Python. I never cared for Ab Fab but I know a lot of people do. Vicar of Dibley I hear is ok, but I haven't seen that yet.
Then there's the shit ones like Keeping Up Appearances and Last of the Summer Wine. God those stink.

But on the other hand. Folks thought Galagher, smashing a watermelon with a big wooden hammer, was funny
I thought it was messy

In my book, "Fawlty Towers" is one of the top five funniest sit-coms of all time. Plus, as funny as the Drew Carey version of the show is, the original "Whose Line is it Anyway" was sheer brilliance, a quantum leap funnier. I never cared much for Benny Hill - could take him or leave him (though I did enjoy his work as the toymaker in "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang"), and I really don't care much at all for "Are You Being Served?" (I believe that's the name - the one about the department store). I, of course, loved all that was Python, and even enjoyed "Doctor in the House" many many moons ago.
I can't say that it is all good (and I have only been exposed to what PBS has provided over the years - which I assume is the better material), but it certainly isn't all bad - far from it. I'd wager that those who are quick to dismiss the genre have had limited exposure to data points. A hasty generalization - like that is anything new here.

Ohh of course, just because it's not funny means it has to be because I don't get it. Bet you can crack the ladies up with drivel like that.vn_Tanc wrote: Yeah cos an idiot with a dog puppet taking obvious potshots at defenceless geeks is the height of wit.
Still it kinda explains why you don't 'get' our fine Brit Humour. Although Benny Hill might be about your level.
