JUST DANCE WII UBISOFT Nov-09 191.9K
DARKSIDERS 360 THQ Jan-10 171.2k

Ok, things to note:

-There is only a single PS3 game in the top 10.

-MAG sold less than 171.2k in the US. This confirms why I wouldn't buy an untested online only game.

-Bayonetta did not chart. /sadface I am dissappointed.

-Darksiders not only charted, but it's continuing to sell well and a sequel has already gotten the greenlight.

- Xbox>PS3 again. Things are getting back to normal after the slim+pricedrop. I thought Sony would have the lead for longer than a single month in system sales. The good news is that they're only losing 13$ per PS3 now and by the end of 2010 they may actually start seeing a profit from console sales.

-Nintendo continues it's total domination in handheld and console sales.

-Mass Effect 2 is selling like hotcakes, already breaking the 2 million mark in the first week in Feb (numbers obviously not in the Jan NPD)

They are actual numbers... Why does it matter if they are from NPD or not? Or is what you really meant "Who cares about US numbers?"

Mass Effect 2 is the biggest blockbuster so far this year.
MAG has sold nearly a half million.
Bayonetta has sold nearly a half million in NA and about 1 million worldwide.
Darksiders has moved 800k worldwide but has pretty much dropped off the radar, moving less than 10k units last week.

The Wii still dominates.
Wii games usually take 6 of the top 10 on a weekly basis.
The 360 and PS3 fight it out for the remaining 4 slots, usually getting 2 each.
The PS3 continues to outsell the 360 worldwide.

/edit: am i tripping, or did your original post say "US numbers", miir?

Just for the sake of argument, and not speaking about any other parts of the world besides the US and Japan, there seems to be a bit of a cultural difference between some popular games in the US and some popular games in Japan. If one resident of the US were interested in what other people were playing (for whatever reason), adding in Japan might skew those numbers to something that might not have much appeal in the States.

Also, since those numbers are researched and published by someone, there is obviously some interest in them.

I realize that this is a descendant of the VG forum, so every thread has to have the console wars, carry on...

Oh, and as an aside, maybe we should change the domain to pissin'contest.com. Depending on what forum you're in, we have a lot:
VG - Sony vs. MS.
Computers - Apple (Winnow) vs. everything else
CE - Right vs. Left
Sports - Winnow vs. Everyone

miir, your game on this shit is as boring as Winnow.

Sales have zilch to do with how good this game is. Aside from graphics, it's considerably better than any other shooter out, and the people that play it for the most part actually play as a team, you know, like you're supposed to do in shooting games. And I'm not sure what you mean by untested.. I'm sure they tested the hell out of it, and it was in beta for a long time before release..

I mean "untested" since it is a new IP, not the technical aspects. I was worried about buying a game that was online only when I did not know how many people were going to buy and play it. Worldwide it is approaching the 500k mark, but I really don't want to be playing a squad based, cooperative online shooter with 2/3rds of the playerbase being overseas!

If it drops it price, I would pick it up. Say, 30$ish. If that doesn't happen until 4-6 months down the road, what will the online status be like? I guess I'm a little gunshy after all the online shutdowns lately. Things lke dropping XBL from the original Xbox, all the titles EA shut down, as well as games like Chromo Hounds. I'm just hyper-aware of the phrase "online only" right now!

The NPD numbers only track the first couple of days the game was released.
MAG has moved over 300k in North America.

I'm not an Apple fan boi (besides the iPhone being the greatest phone ever and Apple having really cool metal keyboards and the awesome screen on the new 27" iMacs)

OSX blows ass. Windows 7 crushes OSX. <3 Bill
