The Hurt Locker and Avatar tie for 9 nominations each. That's weird. Avatar better not win best picture!

Overall, a pretty tame year.

It already won best picture in the Golden Globe awards. Why would the Academy Awards be any different?

Sandra Bullock won best Actress as well. Blind Side was a good movie but I don't think her acting performance was anything out of the ordinary.

Blind Side is a better movie than Avatar. Avatar wins for special effects. That's it.

Robert Downey Jr won best Actor. Id be inclined to give the award to him for some of his previous works:

Chaplin
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Less Than Zero

All brilliant performances

I enjoyed Inglorious Basterds. District 9 was pretty good, but not exactly a new concept.

I'll likely not see Avatar (unless I already have seen it??). That is a fair amount of nominations for a movie that looks more gimmicky than good.

They did miss something though....

Zombieland was hands-down the best movie of the year.

District 9 for Best Picture? I'm pleasantly surprised.

Sam Rockwell was robbed! He was brilliant in Moon.

My pic(k)s:

BEST PICTURE
"The Hurt Locker"

possibly
"Precious" if the Academy is feeling socially responsible this year or "Up in the Air" if they're feeling emotional.

ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
George Clooney for "Up in the Air"

although Colin Firth is amazing in A Single Man.

ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
Gabourey Sidibe for "Precious" ought to win it. Meryl Streep probably will.
Carey Mulligan deserves the nod though.

DIRECTING
Kathryn Bigelow for "The Hurt Locker" or Jason Reitman for "Up in the Air"
Cameron does NOT deserve to win for direction.

ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
HAS to be Christoph Waltz for "Inglourious Basterds"

ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
meh dunno

FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM

"The White Ribbon". "The White Ribbon". "The White Ribbon".

ANIMATED FEATURE FILM
"Coraline", I hope, although UP will prolly grab it.

SCREENPLAY (Adapted)
Love seeing In the Loop nominated, imagine either Precious or An Education will win.

SCREENPLAY (Original)

"A Serious Man"

ART DIRECTION
"Avatar" won't win many I hope, this might be one of them although I think "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" deserves it more.

CINEMATOGRAPHY
"The White Ribbon"

COSTUME DESIGN

eh

DOCUMENTARY FEATURE
"Burma VJ" ought to win (and you should all watch it), but Food Inc will.

DOCUMENTARY SHORT SUBJECT
no clue

FILM EDITING
"The Hurt Locker" deserves it, but it could go to any of them.

MAKEUP
MUSIC (SCORE)

"Sherlock Holmes"

MUSIC (SONG)
no clue

SHORT FILM (ANIMATED)
no clue

SHORT FILM (LIVE ACTION)
no clue

SOUND EDITING
"Avatar"

SOUND MIXING
"Avatar"

VISUAL EFFECTS
"Avatar"

Although there are many shitty movies such as Crash and Million Dollar Baby that have won awards, Avatar taking anything other than CGI-based or sound FX type of things would be a damn shame.
