Of course Uncharted was influenced by tomb raider, however I think that it does about a million times better job at every element of the game than Tomb Raider, I was never able to stomach more than like 15 minutes of any Tomb Raider game.

The shooting in the second one is refined, however there is just as much or more of it. I like that though, and I strongly disagree that there is anything wrong with it.. It's accurate and fun enough to keep a ton of people playing deathmatches/etc online!

I think you need to go back and play some Tomb Raider now that you've finished both Uncharted games. You may be happily surprised at how similar they are from what you remembered! I'm looking for a dirst cheap sale on Tomb Raider: Underworld. Oddly enough, I'm stuck on like, the 2nd puzzle on the anniversary edition. I need to get a walkthrough for that part seeing as how I'm kind of lost...

Tomb Raider Legends was the only TR game I've ever bothered finishing. That one was fun. Tomb Raider's compat was always more arcade whereas Uncharted is a lot more like Gears with the cover systems. Aside from that, there's a lot of similarities.

I don't think it's the combat system in general he has an issue with. It's the few chapters where it's just never ending waves of enemies. Such as the Planewreck one and the Courtyard. Oh and also that lame one where you drop down into the water.

zomg achievement unlocked! And yeah U2 has a couple of those as well although I don't remember them being as frustrating as that damn planewreck level on Crushing. Although once I saw in a video that you could blind fire from cover (which I never knew!) I beat it on the next go.

btw you can 'glitch' the one where you drop into the water so that the enemies will spawn while you're still up top!

iPhone Jailbreak Pioneer Says He's Hacked the PS3

Without specifying how (and explaining it to me would be like reading Siddhartha to a dog, in Klingon), George Hotz says he pulled it off after five weeks of work with "very simple hardware cleverly applied, and some not so simple software."
I have read/write access to the entire system memory, and HV level access to the processor. In other words, I have hacked the PS3. The rest is just software. And reversing. I have a lot of reversing ahead of me, as I now have dumps of LV0 and LV1. I've also dumped the NAND without removing it or a modchip.

3 years, 2 months, 11 days ... that's a pretty secure system
Hotz says he's not revealing his exploit yet. While it "isn't really patchable ... they can make implementations much harder." Wonder if this portends a fast firmware update to snap it shut. That is, if it really has been hacked. But Hotz's cred in this realm is pretty solid. Interesting.
This would be nice as Sony sucks and doesn't allow their standard linux installs to access the GPU which makes them crippled pieces of shit as I've personally witnessed.

I don't even care much about pirating games on the PS3 but I would like to make use of the hardware for useful Homebrew applications similar to XBMC, Boxee, etc. I already had to replace my defective PS3 HD with a 120 or 160 GB HD (can't remember which) so am set for some sort of HTPC type app.

Someone posted this message:
Can I just say George Hotz is full of himself; during my first year at college (RIT) he was also an incoming freshmen, this was just about the same time he was getting all the publicity as the iphone kid... I lived on a different floor than him but I heard the people on his couldn't stand his ego either. All I know is he dropped out of my university.
When someone actually can back up their words and cracks something that no one else has in 3+ years, I think being a little full of themself is ok. That's like saying Steve Jobs is full of himself. He is, but he also got fired from Apple, made BILLIONS off of selling Pixar and then returned to kick ass at Apple again. I don't like Steve Jobs but he's allowed to be a little full of himself.

George Hotz is the same guy they created the one click blackra1n jailbreak for iPhones and says he has a different hack already ready for future iPhones that he won't reveal until after it's too late for Apple to patch it. With his track record, I give him some credit.

If it was a random hacker maybe, but Geohot has never lied and has a godlike track record hacking the iPhone. It doesn't mean something is imminent that will allow homebrew but I tend to believe this guy.

http://geohotps3.blogspot.com/2010/01/h ... eohot.html

This guy is already legendary at age 20.

He hasn't taken a payoff yet but I'm sure Sony would be willing to give him 10's of millions. Not bad for a kid with no income if he chooses to do that. I'm more impressed with his skills. He's analyzing ARM assembly now which is what the iPhone Tablet will most likely run on (we'll know soon enough this Wednesday)

Was watching some of those videos last night and my wife thought it looked pretty fun.
We'll be giving it a try when it's released.

So it looks like Microsoft is going to be the last console with motion control.

In the past 12 months, the PS3 has halved the 360s sales lead as it continues to sell at a faster pace.
PS3 has sold an average of 820k per month, the 360 has sold an average of 735k per month.
PS3 sales are trending higher, 360 sales are falling off.

Motion control is going to make the PS3 a lot more appealing to a demographic that has been mostly exclusive to the Wii.

I still think Natal will have a lot more impact than the PSMove. I also suspect that a new 360 form factor will be pulled out at E3.

This one feels like a complete rip off of the Wii motion control and all the games demoed are essentially the same shovelware than the Wii has been getting. Sports games, party packs etc.. Hell, devs are going to port their Wii Projects to the PS3 now too.

Since my PS3 is now almost permanantly plugged into my PC monitor (aside from when we rent the occasional Blu-Ray movie), the odds of me getting a camera and a waggle stick for it are slim to none.

Oh.. And Nintendo is more than likely to sue. This is a complete rip on the Wiimote/Nunchuck idea.

Big deal. Motion control sucks especially in games that force it on you instead of where it makes sense.

"a lot more"? I don't see that. I don't think the Wii has sold in the numbers it has simply due to motion control.

Great job at innovation though Sony. It only took you three years to steal the Wiimote. While Natal doesn't interest me either at least MS is trying something different. Besides, Move looks more like a sex toy than anything.

100$ for the PS3 Waggle? Jesus, you can buy a Wii for 200$. Sony never, ever learns. If the games are 10-15$ downloads, that's great. If they expect people to pay 20+, then they're hiiiiiigh as fuck!

It's such a complete and obvious rip off of the wiimote that it's hilarious. Sports Champ? lol The games look horrible. I don't expect Natal games to be any different in terms of quality though!

Who am I kidding? I'll likely buy both for my kids to play with. /shrug

YA BUT NINTENDO REJECTED THAT CLEARLY INFERIOR TECHNOLOGY YEARS AGO!!11!1!!

Really though, I can see Natal having some cool subtle implementations into mainstream games. This Move thing is like a Wii controller, so it's kind of a all or nothing thing when it comes to whether games will use motion control or not. I'll likely be buying Natal, even though I think it will be mostly gimmicky, but unless some crazy good non mini game comes out for the PS3 one, I'll be skipping.

A Wiimote (with Wii Motion plus) is $50
The Nunchuk is $20.

The controller itself will probably be priced in the $50 range.
The bundle will come with the PS Eye ($30) and a game and will be priced under $100.
Sounds like very reasonable pricing that's amied squarely at the Wii.

I haven't really been paying attention but the PS3 has been really strong with exclusives so far this year.

God of War 3 (next week)
Heavy Rain
MLB 10: The Show
Yakuza 3
MAG

After Mass Effect 2, what top shelf exclusives has the 360 had so far this year?

Coming soonthere's Splinter Cell Conviction, Crackdown 2, Alan Wake and they have Fable 3 and Halo Reach later on this fall.

What does the PS3 have after God of War 3 for the rest of the year?
Possibly Last Guardian and GT5 if neither of those get delayed?

Funny.. None of those titles listed interest me. Why did that even come up?

Anyway... Exclusives are dumb and with the obvious exception of first party titles(or developers joined to Sony's hip) I wouldn't mind seeing less of them. With the install base being somewhat equal between PS3 and 360 why ignore half your potential customers?

If we are going to have ourselves a exclusive title cock jousting match here, let's stick to big name games that appeal to the majority (which would mean MLB, Yakuza are gone) and tbh, I got MAG but it's not really anything I'd brag about with exclusivity either.

And to be fair, for the same reasons, Fable 3 should be excluded from any lists too. It's going to take loleasy and wtfautopilot to levels even WoW has never dreamed of, plus Peter Molyneaux is a fucking tool. Fable 3 will be the most skip-worthy exclusive of the year this year.

Alan Wake
Delayed and technically not exclusive (Xbox/PC)

Mass Effect 2
Also technically not an exclusive as it's on PC.

Splinter Cell: Conviction
A Splinter Cell game without Sam Fisher... and with the emphasis NOT on stealth?
What's the point?

Crackdown 2
That should be a fun one. But not out until summer.

Halo: Reach
More of the same. Christmas release.

Fable 3
More of the same. Christmas release.

What does the PS3 have after God of War 3 for the rest of the year?
Gran Turismo 5
ModNation Racers
SOCOM 4
Twisted Metal
Yakuza 4
Last Guardian

Possibly in 2010:
The Agency (PC/PS3)
DC Universe Online (PC/PS3)
FF XIV (PC/PS3)
Ar Tonelico 3

On Splinter Cell Conviction: Yes, the main character is Sam Fisher and yes the name of the game is still stealth. Just not on the badgets that you used to have. http://splintercell.us.ubi.com/conviction/#/home/7131/

Halo: Reach and Fable 3 yes they're follow ups to successful franchises. But since the previous games have been great (Halo isn't my particular cup of tea), how is this a bad thing?

If we're going to have a "more of the same" category, might as well lump in God of War 3, SOCOM 4, Yakusa 4, GT5 and any other sequel in there as well.

Oh and if having a game on the PC doesn't constitute it being an exclusive, you might wanna remove just about your whole Possibly in 2010 series too...

We need to get back on topic about how much Sony Move sucks. (edit: all waggle tech gaming is terrible)

Sony stands on stage and demonstrates 5 year old tech and can somehow pretend that no one in the audience doesn't already own a Wii. It reminds me of when they announced the PS3 at E3 and tried to pretend that HD gaming console gaming hadn't been around the previous year. It's crazy. I feel like I'm in a time warp watching the Wii details. It is the exact same thing.

100$ package (rumored at this time) to include: 1 Move controller, 1 PS Eye, 1 Shovelware game of choice (looking to be the PSWii Sports)

There's a load of other PS3 exclusives that I didn;t post for that exact reason. I only listed ones that are sequels to gamnes that have sold well in the past or ones that are in-house developed by Sony and guaranteed to get a huge marketing push.

Gran Turismo will like TOTALLY be released this year... i guarantee it... i hope...
ModNation Racers is a cross between Mario Kart and Little Big Planet. It appeals to a large demographic.. it will sell boatloads.
SOCOM titles are virtually guaranteed to move over a million units.
Same goes for Twisted Metal. A solid franchise.
Yakuza is a pretty well known franchise (maybe not to you) that has historically moves close to 1 million units.
I know quite a few people who were looking forward to MLB 10.
there are plenty of xbox games not listed here that I am entirely too lazy to dig up and post
That's what I thought as well, but I actually looked and there's really nothing beyond those 6.

Wow, the videos and previews that I have seen didn't look anything at all like the Splinter Cell games that I love.

Fable 3 isn't going to just be "more of the same".. a fucking newborn baby will be able to roll around in front of the tv in his diaper with Natal on and beat the game. The only goal of this game is to make a single player console rpg that will attract the 12 year olds that play WoW and Halo.

Miir - I'm with you on ModNation, I am actually looking forward to that game. I tried to ninja my way into the eurotrash beta but I was teh slow :(

Socom has a cult following but I wouldn't call it a AAA big selling title like CoD, Halo, Gears, Resistance, Killzone, etc.

I was unaware there was a twisted metal coming out, I'll be interested to see how that turns out, I liked the third one quite a bit.

Yakuza, yeah.. I haven't heard of it, it can't be that well known, reputed or great (not trying to be arrogant, just saying.)

And MLB 10 is a sports game. Sports games are not something that the majority of gamers are into, it's nothing personal against that game. However I do have a few friends that were all excited about it too.

P.S. 1 million copies of a game sold is nothing to frown at by any means, however out of those 6 xbox games listed above, I'd say 5 of them will sell 4+ times that amount of copies in the first few months. Of all the games on your PS3 list, that could probably only be said about GT5 (assuming I'm wrong and it does exist) and FF14.

Wow, the videos and previews that I have seen didn't look anything at all like the Splinter Cell games that I love.
It looked more like a straight up action game.
Yeah it was funny you made the comment you did, cause not 5 minutes before your post I was just reading details about what happens to Sam Fisher in the new one, plot wise. You were just misinformed :( I can't stand the Splinter Cell games though so I'm indifferent.

P.S. I'm not sure if I've mentioned it, but Fable 3 is gonna suck and GT5 is a lie.

They rebooted that game in 2008 cause what they had apparently wasn't real good. What they're doing now with it looks absolutely fantastic.

The Splinter Cell games have always sucked copious amounts of ass, imo. Way too slow moving and tedious.

I was unaware there was a twisted metal coming out, I'll be interested to see how that turns out, I liked the third one quite a bit.
I hope you meant second one. Or fifth one.

Also technically not an exclusive as it's on PC.

Splinter Cell: Conviction
A Splinter Cell game without Sam Fisher... and with the emphasis NOT on stealth?
What's the point?

Crackdown 2
That should be a fun one. But not out until summer.

Halo: Reach
More of the same. Christmas release.

Fable 3
More of the same. Christmas release.
What does the PS3 have after God of War 3 for the rest of the year?
Gran Turismo 5
ModNation Racers
SOCOM 4
Twisted Metal
Yakuza 4
Last Guardian

Possibly in 2010:
The Agency (PC/PS3)
DC Universe Online (PC/PS3)
FF XIV (PC/PS3)
Ar Tonelico 3
On Alan Wake : http://www.next-gen.biz/news/alan-wake-pc-cancelled

Just to be clear, what I'm implying here is that MS has dingleberries that sell more copies than your PS3 "exclusives" (yeah, I just fucking air quoted that fyi). You can pretend all you want that the PS3 is the better console, but you're clearly wrong. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here on the bad taste being as you're Canadian and that comes naturally.

Worldwide for the month of Feb

http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons1=W ... &end=40237

Wii: 1.155 million
PS3: 743k
360: 615k

Interesting, if you look at the sales over the past 6 months, the 360 has been in last place nearly every week.

Move is "the future of gaming"? That's a big LOL.

Look at the one with the guy playing the shooter.. Does that actually look fun to anyone?

Yeah, fail.

The buttons thing is inconsequential to me, as the only uses I'll really care to have Natal for is not needing a controller to browse dashboard/netflix etc.

Motion controlling for any kind of action game is retarded for that reason, imo. I remember seeing the Call of Duty commercial for the version that came out for the Wii a while back and seeing someone ducking behind their couch to take cover.. Yeah, not fun. I want to sit on my ass and hold a controller when I play video games, not flail/jump/duck/run around.

I've played a few FPS on the Wii and I have to say that I don't really hate motion control for shooters.
It took me less time to get accustomed to motion control than it did for using a gamepad.

Motion control is great for some things, but for FPS and sports sims, I'm with Funk. I just want to sit on the couch, push buttons and wiggle my thumbs around.

As you should since, despite Funk's assertions, it's way more precise than a controller can ever hope to be. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a doofus!

Keyboard/Trackball is my preference, but I was just talking about console stuff. Given the option, I'll almost always go with a PC version over a console version for FPS & RTS games.
