Funeral home offers drunk drivers a free burial

Post by Boogahz »

ROME, Ga.— Planning to drink and drive this New Year's? A north Georgia funeral home has a deal for you. Between now and noon Thursday, drivers can visit McGuire, Jennings and Miller Funeral Home in Rome to sign a contract stating they plan to drink or take drugs and then drive on New Year's Eve. If they die in a wreck that day, the funeral home will give them a free burial.

Services included in the package are a casket, grave, limousine and preparation of remains.

Funeral home officials said the program is designed to save lives by making partygoers think twice about drinking and driving.

I don't see how they can spin the attention they're getting from this into profit.

I'm sure the victim of the dead drunk driver (or their family if they die) will think it's real cute too.

Worst promotion ever. No win situation. No surprising this is taking place in the south.

Definitely a lose/lose scenario for this place. Good intentions perhaps, but stupid fucking idea.

I'll tell you how they can: can you name a funeral home in North Georgia? Could you before you clicked on this thread?

No one is actually going to take advantage of this. It's a publicity stunt that seems to be working.

I think that's a brilliant idea.

It draws attention to the issue of drunk driving and it's great publicity.

I confess, I sometimes fail to bond with the common folk mentality that enables dupification by these stunts. I'll never be able to connect with the Borats of the world that do stupid shit to stupid people and think it's funny either.

...and I still don't know the name of a single funeral home anywhere, much less in Georgia. If for some god awful reason it turned out I had to bury someone in the South (east), I would remember this, and return to this post to purposely avoid the funeral home mentioned in it.

Balloon Boy's parents probably got a kick out of this publicity stunt!

I agree with the Canadian.
For the oppressed, peace is the absence of oppression, but for the oppressor, peace is the absence of resistance.

What the fuck does this even mean? How is this a stunt that "dupes" anyone? What is the "common folk mentality" that enables this duping? And what does any of this have to do with Borat?

I'm sure if idiots had actually signed said contract, the good people at McGuire, Jennings and Miller Funeral Home would have done us all a public service and warned law enforcement to be on the lookout for these kooks and pull them over the moment they get behind the wheel.

Who cares? I doubt any of us will be buried there anyway. The only people that will are the people that live in that city to begin with and the known funeral homes are probably already known.

Unless you think that out of towners will want to be buried there for the free service? :)
