Best *Low Cost* Upright Vacuum Cleaner?

Post by Canelek »

My old Eureka took a dump last week so it is time to buy a new one.

First off -- I am NOT going to spend much for one. I know Dysons are the shit and all, but I rent and really do not feel like spending all of that money for one. I'd prefer to stay under $200 or even less, if possible.

What's the best on a budget?

Thanks!

Riccar. Just goto a vacuum store and haggle down. That's what I did. This vacuum is sickeningly awesome.

If you're a consumer whore, just get a refurbed dyson.

Refurb Dysons, at least on their site, are great deals, but still in the ~$250-$400 range. May be something to look at down the line.

We recently bought a Bissell bagless upright after our 10 year-old Hoover croaked. So far, so good. It was somewhere between 150 & 200.

Perfect! I also read a ton of pretty good reviews on that Bissell. Yay, free shipping from Amazon! Just bought for $142. It didn't seem like many other uprights with the same features and positive reviews were as good, aside from maybe the Hoover in the same category.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Yeah, we bought ours at Bestbuy because we needed it right away (we were cleaning up for company when our Hoover stopped sucking and its motor started reeking). It ended up being like 160ish. If we weren't in a rush, we could have saved a few bucks. I've used it a few times so far, and like it a lot better than our old vacuum. The pet hair grabber works surprisingly well. Maybe it's because the Hoover was failing and not performing as well the last few times we used it, but I was shocked by how much crap got sucked up into the Bissell's canister the first time we used it. Hope it works out for you.

Me too! The pet hair thing was a big plus, and reviews seemed to be geared towards excellent hair removal from carpets, etc.

I don't have any pets at this time, but my friend from Eugene visits often and she has a large German Shepherd...and a 10 month old who likes to make giant baby-messes of food!

As it stands, I have dog hair, crumbs and dirt all over, so I am looking forward to what the new vacuum can (hopefully) do.
