So I can get a new work phone...

Post by Bubba Grizz »

My boss gave me a list of the phones I can choose from but I am not sure which one to choose. I guess I'd like to know which ones I should avoid.

Palm Centro
Samsung Ace
HTC Snap
Treo 755P
Palm Pre
Samsung Intrepid
Treo Pro
HTC Touch diamond
HTC Touch Pro

Of those phones, the Pre wins the sexy fight.

What's the reason that you have to choose between those specific phones? Carrier lock-in?

How the fuck is that helpful?

I'd say go with the Pre.
It's really a no-brainer.

Ignore Miir. He's frumpy. Wait it out for a good phone! What's the timeline? if your boss is a techy nerd, he might want the better phone as well.

Well the timeline was "now" so I couldn't wait too long. Blackberry has been blackballed by our company and we don't support them. So I went with the Pre. Thanks for the help folks.

Why's the Blackberry blackballed? You guys are using Activesync on Exchange and don't/won't spring for a BES (Which is completely understandable, those things are spendy)?

Let us know how you like the Pre.

Yeah I've heard good stuff about the Pre, however I doubt anytime in the next few years I'll buy any phone that isn't running Android.

Yeah they aren't willing to do anything extra just so that Blackberry works with our Exchange server. Our company is also a Microsoft partner so we are only using (with the exception of the Pre and iPhone) MS Mobile devices. We are able work wireless sync with the Pre and iPhone without any extra effort. The only problem with the iPhone is that we won't allow iTunes on our work machines so they have to do the initial install on their home computer.

Is that an option to do the istall at home? If so, do it. The iPhone blows the doors off of all the options you listed.

Figured as much. The Blackberry Enterprise Server mail push is fantastic but it's an expensive proposition considering activesync is free with your exchange cals.

I have the HTC Touch Diamond and love it.. nice smooth interface, rather fast, plenty of internal memory, great camera.. cant complain.. eventhough it has on on screen keyboard (rather have the buttons) its really easy to get used to.

Edit: One other thing I didnt mention.. A friend of mine gave me his Spb user interface for the phone, what is really pretty sweet.. Makes the phones functionality a lot simpler and smoother.

i'm thinking of canceling my contract on my iphone 3gs if the HTC HD2 gets released on ATT or Verizon in the US...but if you are forced into that list i'd go for the HTC Touch Diamond...sleek as heck!

*edit* talk to your boss too...cause the Touch Pro II is out as well as the Touch Diamond II.

I finally got my phone yesterday. I tried to activate it but then found that I had to have a username and password. Seeing as this is a company account I had to call someone to get this going. They got my number transferred and the account upgraded and such but it took a while. Then the phone wouldn't activate for some reason.

We got transferred to Tech who prompted transferred us to his level 2 person. There was a hold time of about 15 minutes between each transfer. When the level 2 guy answered he said that he wasn't allowed to help us as we are a business account so he gave us a phone number to call and then hung up.

So the person who I was working with gave me the account info and then left because it was around an hour now and he was leaving work. I call the number and the lady on the other end got me going pretty quick and the phone activated fine. I let her go and realized I shouldn't have because with this phone you need to create a profile and when I tried it said that it couldn't find a signal though I had 4 bars.

I had to call them back again and the next person had me do a full reset on the phone. It activated right away and my profile worked. So all told it took me almost 2 hours to get the phone functioning. I didn't get much time to play with it though as Biggest Loser was going to be on and I had to get to Dairy Queen to get some Blizzards to eat while watching.

So far today I am finding the phone to be pretty slick.

Banana Cream Pie or Mint Oreo are my staple but some seasonal flavors are good like the Pumpkin Pie.

I've come to the conclusion that one day within the next 5 years Google will run everything...

Droid > Iphone... that is all.

Check out the new one that is supposed to come out in Jan. It is code named Nexus One right now I think, and speculation is that Google will be selling it directly, and it will be available at the providers (T Mobile & At&t). Even with the little info that has been released about it, I can tell you for 100% certain this phone will wipe it's ass with the iPhone. I've been holding out to get a new phone and I'm glad I did.
