Someone kick a Field Goal?
Re: Since nobody ever mentions it here
Go Yankees!!!
Re: Since nobody ever mentions it here
What ever, I tried to start baseball conversation a few times but nobody here wants to unless their team is good....or wins. I gave up on it, same with hockey
Re: Since nobody ever mentions it here
Probably for the same reason nobody discusses golf or bowling: It's boring.

Bowling Rocks.
Re: Since nobody ever mentions it here
baseball is a terrible sport...games are too long, season is too long. I was a yankees kid growing up...and I still don't care that they won. I apologize for all the baseball hatorade.

Just ask any Dallas Cowboy's fan how he feels since the NFL instituted a salary cap. Im sure that's how Yankees fans would feel if the same thing happened in baseball. Yankees have the ability and the money to buy out all the best players. Yes that makes you the best team.Chidoro wrote:I'm a Yankees fan but this link says it all:

As a Phillies fan im not bitter about the loss in the series. I don't watch baseball because of how uncompetitive it is, but I do follow all the local sports teams. I just want to say that before the first series game this year, I already gave Yankees the win in my book. I didn't give them the win because they were the better coached and managed team. I gave them the win because they are able to spend twice as much to get the best players in the game than any other team in the sport. When the Yankees win it is because they did well, and when the Yankees lose it is because they played poor. When a team can only beat itself, its time to put in a salary cap.

Re: Since nobody ever mentions it here
Yet there still should be a salary cap. That or they break the league into teams that have a bottomless pit of money to pull from to pay their players, and teams that don't. It's not fair, sportsman like, and it sure isn't interesting or exciting to watch the Yankees win year after year.Gonzoie - Luclin wrote:Just ask any Dallas Cowboy's fan how he feels since the NFL instituted a salary cap. This coming from someone who doesn't care less about baseball, nor do I watch it (aside from a Twins game or two ever year when work brings us).

Jesus guys, just enjoy the clip, it's a pisser. "The San Diego Padres have 8 year olds in the outfield" or "I'm expecting Ryan Howard to sign and agree to play 2nd" comeon haha

The reason i don't care for baseball is because the championships are bought.

Yep! The Yankees pay the most money. Even AZ forked out mega bucks to get their World Series Championship and would have kept on winning but they couldn't afford it. At least they were able to scrape up enough $$ for one!Xyun wrote:The reason i don't care for baseball is because the championships are bought.

Bullshit! My Mets had ~$150,000,000 payroll last season and they finished 4th in the NL East! I demand recompense!!

Re: Since nobody ever mentions it here
I used to love baseball, and followed it very closely. Over the last 10-15 years, I've gradually lost interest, and now I don't really care at all. I watched the final game only because it was on the TV while I was doing some other stuff in my office. That was probably more baseball than I've watched in the last couple of years combined.

LOL that is great, didnt the Marlins buy their win in 97? wasnt that Sheffeild, Brown, Nen, Alou, Bonilla, Conine, Henandez, Leiter, Devo....meh I remeber that team well. They bought the series then shipped out every one of those guys within 2 seasons...I think many the very next season.

Re: Since nobody ever mentions it here
Actually most of those guys were home grown if i remember correctly. Same thing with '03... they never had the money to "buy" a championship.

Re: Since nobody ever mentions it here
Fine, lets see
Kevin Brown - spent most of his career in Texas up until his 2 years in Florida making 4.5million 96 - 97
Dennis Cook - Bounced around until his 1 year in Florida 97
Alex Fernandez - 7 years with the White Sox before signing with Florida in 97
Rick Helling - Rangers before his 2 years in Florida in 96-97
Al Leiter - Blue Jays before his 2 years in Florida in 96-97
Bonilla - 97-98
Alou - 1 year 97
Jim Eisenriech - 97-98
Devon White - 96-97
Gary Sheffield - 6 years with Florida
Sure there are some guys that where 'homegrown' But I would say a lot of them where brought in for 1 to 2 years right then.
According to the baseball almanac Florida had a total payroll of 52million which coincedentally was only topped by Atlanta (who beat them for the division title) in the National league. They also list Florida having a 1996 payroll of only 25 million and a 98 payroll of 19 million.
So the Marlins more then DOUBLED their payroll for the 1997 season, im going to go out on a limb and say they didnt win on homegrown talent....really I think that was one of the most shining examples of how to buy a world series, not a team to prop up as a big underdog. The very next year they shed 33 million in salary whixh is more then their total payroll had ever been up until 97.
