Costochondral Strain - VVmd?

So a bit more than a week ago, I ate it while cleaning my bathroom. Wet linoleum ftw! Anyway, I banged my back and ribs real well, banging against the side of the tub. Pain on big inhale...coughing, laughing, sneezing. Good times. It reminds my of a cracked rib, which I have had before.

My doctor is recommending Bromelain, DMSO and Arnica Cream, plus the vicodin for pain. Oh, and breathing exercises. He also said this could take a long time to heal, as in several months.

Has anyone had a Costochondral Strain before? How long did it last? Any tips that helped?

edit: Costochondral, not Intercostal

That sounds like a injury you'd get from shopping at Costco too often.

Both in name and action. Shopping cart aggresiveness is at its peak in a Costco. Much potential for Costo-related injuries. The name also reminds me of Contra...both in relation to the super-awesome Nintendo game as well as the Iran-Contra scandal.

In reality though, it is a bitch.

I don't have anything useful to add to your topic, so why not derail it??? (sorry!)

I went to the doctor yesterday because I thought i had an ear infection or a brain tumor because it felt like someone was jabbing an ice pick into my ear. Turns out it's TMJ. It later turned into some of the most excruciating pain I've ever felt. This sucks my ass! Didn't even get any worthwhile painkillers either, just Motrin (which works about as well as O'Douls).

Please feel free to mail me any leftover vicodin.

Yup. I gots the TMJ also. Fucking dentist fucked me up last year. It comes and goes, but basically just stay away from overly chewy foods, like jerky, ju ju bees and bubble gum. Also avoid taking really large bites out of anything.

That clicking is awful.

Time and a solid anti-inflammatory such as Naproxin. Not a whole hell of a lot you can do except avoid direct contact of the intercostal space for the duration of the injury. Think of it as tendonitis of the ribs and treat it as such (tennis elbow, etc...)
