Organizing Pick-up Raids

No holds barred discussion. Someone train you and steal your rare spawn? Let everyone know all about it! (Not for the faint of heart!)

Organizing Pick-up Raids

Post by Soriathus Serpentine »

Ok, well all know pick-up raids suck because of the high percentage chance of getting 1 moron in the group that would cause a full wipe, but all that aside, is there any boards (other than this one, because this is flame city), where people organize pickup raids? Just wondering, because there are several places I'd personally like to go and hunt, but it's sometimes a major pain in the ass and a giant waste of time getting pickup groups in PoK or the Nexus.

For example, I've been trying to get pickup groups of people to goto Howling Stones, but it's a pain in the arse. I either get level 60's who say "Oh everything's lblue there to me" or I get level 15's and level 30's saying "I'll goto howling stones :-)".

P.S. Aranuil, check your PM's.

I don't think you're gonna find a balanced group of lvl 47's with HS keys running around. And also, did you mean pickup raids? Or groups? Or you tried to organize a Howling Stones raid? I guess it doesn't matter, cause I don't know of any other boards where you'd do something like that. :?

Well pick up raids, pick up groups, either or really.

You aren't gonna find many people at that level with HS keys. People just don't do it anymore, because it's not worth it.

I've never been in the position to have to organize a pick-up raid, but I've definitely seen a few in action. Usually, the results are disastrous. EQ players are much better off following the directions of a leader (or group of leaders) with whom they are familiar, and participating in a crowd to which they are accustomed. You leave too much to chance when you join a pick-up raid.

That said, you'd be much better off just joining a guild that you respect, and that meets your chosen level of play. You'll advance in the game much more readily in a guild, and EQ seems to be designed to fit the guild-raiding structure. Even if you're not the guild leader, you'll benefit from working under someone who is, and preferably someone who's good at it.

If you're trying to organize a raid to Howling Stones, you might want to reconsider the size of the group you're gunning for. HS isn't really a "raid" zone; it's a zone designed for single groups at levels higher than 47. Turning a higher-level, single-group zone into a lower-level raid zone isn't going to work. Level up a bit in 6-man groups, then tackle the bigger stuff.

HS is still good for loot if that's your aim. It's a pretty nice zone to crawl around in. The Hole is a blast too.

The exp in the zone isn't near what it was, I was in there with a group of low-mid 50s not to long ago and exp was crawling. Went back to chardok and all was well :)

Howling Stones just happens to be one of those zones that are BYOG (Bring Your Own Group). It's also very underutilized, so if you can drag people there you'll definately be able to get one of the wings to yourself. A level 60 can single pull there, but good luck dragging one out of one of the Planes. What I find the worst part of this zone is that OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS of the mobs will Harm Touch. It's kinda like Nurga, but worse.

Chardok is a nice out of the way place and once you get past the fortress, there are mobs that are dark blue to level 60s. The graveyard is a very nice place and out of the way of people camping just about anything, unless they're on their way to Royals.

Pick up raids suck. Remember what Nancy Reagan said, 'Just say No!'

Organized Pick-up Raid? Isn't that an Oxymoron of sorts?

i dunno, Salis, Kelgar, Duladin, Marbus, and I used to do pickup fear raids with some degree of frequency.

they worked enough times for us to keep doing them, but i think that is not the rule with pickup raids.

That bard who ebay'd 6 times, died, had his cousin take over the account, then didnt die, or did he, then changed his name....that guy, well the 3rd guy who had that account, led some nagafen and vox pickup raids with regular success, which at the time it happened (late kunark) was fairly impressive.

millie's advice is great advice though.
