I don't know that it'll make *that* much difference. But hopefully that (Nez) server will reboot at different times and run any 'events' during Aussie prime time :D

This isn't your typical MMO clone. If you like fantasy MMO's, this is the one to get. High Quality production on all levels.

I even played it for more than 30 minutes during the beta! That's an extremely high endorsement from the 30 minute gamer.

Eh, to be honest it seems like the biggest differences are in the visuals, which don't really matter to me in a MMO. The game mechanics/quests etc are what make it, and I really don't need more than WoW (and maybe EQ2) in that area. Plus I couldn't try it if I wanted to until I get a new pc.

I still say give it 3 months, no one here will be talking about it anymore. Besides maybe you for spite :)

Um, that's because the Chinese beta ended and you couldn't make any Asian friends. Try actually paying for something once in awhile.

Pretty much spot on Funk... there really is nothing to set it apart from EQ2 or WOW except for the visuals.
The lore isn't very compelling, the quests are standard fare, the flying mechanic is just a pvp gimmick.

I got up to level 32 in the chinese beta and nothing really was changed (they just cleaned up the localization) in the NA preview/beta.

Since I have like.. zero interest in playing it, it doesn't really matter to me where the issues with GameGuard are. I just find it funny that it's apparently big news that they are only temporarily disabling it. Whooo big deal!

MMO's are a younger/single person's game. I just don't have the time or patience to deal with un-ending grinds/raids or bullshit guild drama.

That being said this one looks particularly pretty from the screenshots..

MMOs are really not like that at all these days.... except for the guild drama.
If you want to be on the leading edge, of course there is going to be a pretty hefty time commitment but there's lots of casual type guilds in every game. Our EQ2 guild is raid-optional but we raid several times a week. We raid for 1-2 hours on those nights. Grinding is totally optional and advancement usually comes by running an instance or two (30-60 minutes each).
And considering the size of our guild, the drama is surprisingly non existent... even with pricks like me and midnyte in the guild.

Yeah I've been playing WoW quite a bit and at one point was playing EQ2 quite a bit (and intend on playing it again at some point). You really don't need to have the time to invest to level, except for level 70-80 in each of the games, when things slow down a bit.

Raiding also takes considerably less time, and is still plenty of fun. I also don't have the guild drama issue, my guild raids probably 2-4 days a week but it's always optional.

A tiny part of me agrees with you, but even then not totally. For me, this wears off after about a month when I realize I like EQ2 and WoW more and this game is really nothing but the same old with a different backdrop. Thus I save myself the 50 dollars for the game and the subscription fee, and time to install it and just skip to the part where I don't play it anymore.

The car analogy just doesn't fit. If you want to go with cars a better one would be something like: Playing a new MMO is like right after you get done building a car piece by piece you give it away and start over.

Aion is better than WoW. Looks better, plays better. Warhammer was an excellent PvP MMORPG.

The game is kinda designed around end game PvP, so it's hard to say how it will compare until the bulk of the server population hits 50. I like the skill chains, and the graphics are nice. It's pretty standard MMO other than that, which is to be expected.

I have a level 18 Templar on Azphel, Asmo side.

I am sort of playing this. It is pretty fun, despite a high population of website-based gold sellers. Since you can set up a private store in any location, at any time, you will see large amounts of spam around areas such as brokers and banks.

Broker system - Is it just me or is the search feature broken? Maybe it is case-sensitive....

Graphics are lovely, at least at 8X anti-aliasing and all the other crap turned up. Fluid movement and fight mechanics. I seem to crash now and again, but that may be because I have been having driver issues with the SLI 9800 GTX on Vista 64. Will be going to Windows 7 as soon as I can.

So far I have a 10 Sorc and 11 Ranger. I am not so sure I like the Ranger as much since mobs tend to leash on me in a short range. It sucks to have a mobd down 50% with the bow, only to switch to close range weapons, move in and have it be back at 100%.

Anyways, I am on Fregion for now:

Coho - 10 Sorcerer
Aliantha - 11 Ranger

I am not sure how long I will be playing though, unless I find something more compelling than the graphics and a different twist to combat. We shall see!

Canelek, I am also on Fregion as an Asmodian. Which side, Asmo or Elyos?

I am absolutely in love with this game. I have a 36 spiritmaster, and the diversity of PvP makes for an interesting set of variables. The fortress attacks have been epic and fun, and each character has the potential to help out in a big way. Each fight, up to this point, has involved hundreds of characters on both sides: last night the Asmodians had seven alliances (7 x 24= 168) and the Elyos as usual had more. There were small scale and large scale battles happening in multiple locations around the fortress. We have become fairly coordinated with our attacks, and our raid leaders usually are commanding a few alliances at a time. Vent gets pretty chaotic, but in a fun adrenaline rush fashion. I can't recommend it enough. The drawback is a very steep experience curve, similar to something that Everquest had with its grinding factor. This game is not a cakewalk to 50, and if you want the best exp and money, you have to brave the Abyss, where you will get ganked.
It's not for everyone. It's definitely for me.

Kaldaur -

Asmo, I think (black wings). I am still trying to figure out if I like the game or not. If it becomes too tedious on the solo level, I will likely unsub and uninstall. We shall see! My reasoning being that I have no plans to take up another MMO on more than a barely casual level since I am raiding 4 nights a week in EQ2 and even there my interest is running low. :) Of course, this is due to the expansion not being released until Feb.

Yeah, then I've gotta warn you, it does get very steep. Expect not to make very much progress right now, at least until they fix questing. Quest rewards are pitiful compared to monster exp right now; another similarity to original EQ. There are rumored changes on the way, but I wouldn't count on them.
However, it is worth it to level up. PvP is the most fun I've had since DAoC.

I played until 43. The game is great fun for the first 35ish levels. Then it starts to exponentially slow down. The required gold sinks after 40 are also just way too much to enjoy if you don't buy kinah (gold) online. A few of the bad mechanics are supposedly changing in patch 1.6, and I'll probably resub to give it another shot when that happens. Until then though, I don't feel it's a solid game.

Bots and incompetent responses to bots are going to kill the game in the euro market.

Apparently the rampant botting doesn't bother the Koreans, but Nezekan turned into a ghost town after the free month ran out.

I kinda liked the hideous grind because it made me nostalgic for EQ Live, but the bots kill stealing and generally 24/7 killing anything grindable ruin it.

Is anyone really going to play any new MMORPG that comes out? At least for any substantial length of time. Pretty much everyone who plays them still is in WoW mode, with a sprinkling of EQ/2 here and there, so unless something really game-changing appears it's pretty much "Been there, Done that".
