RIP Patrick Swayze

Post by Siji »

He was in some cheesy roles but he was also in some pretty good ones. I'm saddened by the loss of him.

I miss him already. He was a stand up guy. I've never met anyone that didn't like him.

Watched The Outsiders earlier this evening- for the first time in a looong time. He is the leader of the gang and the older brother of the family. That movie is fucking awesome and underrated IMO. Not to mention the cast is insane: Patrick Swayze, Matt Dillon, Tom Cruise, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, and the fucking Karate Kid?!? And that's just the greasers...

Well, thats one way to get a Ghost sequel....

But seriously, the guy was a class act and went out on his own terms. Can't ask for more than that.
War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .

Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.
--RICHARD M. NIXON, "REAL PEACE" (1983)

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, represents, in the final analysis, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."

This all goes to reinforce my belief that Roadhouse was easily his finest performance.

Roadhouse is one of a few movies in which I could stand to watch Swayze. I'm not sure why, but I've always kind of liked that flick. It's not the sort of movie that I normally enjoy, but I think it's a fun movie for some reason. I think I liked it in spite of him. In most roles, I just thought Swayze was so awful as to be hard to watch. It's too bad what happened to him, though.

His ChipNDale skit on SNL with Chris Farley was pretty funny too.

edit: removed link, it isn't the original skit.

100% pure adrenalyne.

Point Break is one of the finest guilty pleasure movies out there...right up there with Roadhouse. As for "Father Hood"....totally unwatchable.

It makes me wonder if Steve Jobs is headed down a similar path to the same fate.

Point Break is probably my favorite of his.. followed by Roadhouse. Outsiders was great too. His performance in Ghost was really good, though I'm still so sick of the movie I can't put it in my favorites.

I think Steve Jobs is ok now.

But for Swayze, and pretty much every human, pancreatic cancer is really rough. It has a very high mortality rate. It is hard to detect, and once it is detectable, the cancer has usually progressed to the point that the survivability rate is < 50%. The President of the NCAA, Myles Brand, died from this yesterday.
