What a week!

Post by valryte »

1. Sat night a drive dies in my media server. Thankfully unRaid rebuilt the data without a hitch after I bought a replacement drive.

2. Yesterday I get back from the doctor to find my router flaking out. Weird blinking lights. Do a search on my iPhone and find out the power adapter on the router has taken a crap. ok, fine, I have plenty of older routers/switches and their power adapters laying around. So I check the router, dam thing uses 5V and everything else I have uses 12V. So I pull a MacGyver and splice the power cable to the 5V line on a molex connector and hook that bitch into one of my servers. It's still working and my house hasn't burned down :)

3. Tonight while I'm getting ready to image my laptop, thing flakes out and blue screens. I tried everything, all kinds of safe modes options, repair, etc... I can't get Vista to boot without blue screening. So I take the drive out so I can just copy the files off it, bam no power. Looks like the controller is fried. So now I have to see if a local store carries the same model or order one from Newegg to try and swap out the controller so I can hopefully copy the data off it.

Tell me about it. The sad thing is when the laptop died I was in the process of making an image of it in preparation of installing Windows 7. Normally I have recent images, but for the laptop the last image was from like 6-7 months ago because something happened with Acronis and it stopped working. I'm waiting for a duplicate drive from newegg. Hopefully it's just the controller on the drive and I can swap it out to get my data out.
