Niagara Falls?
So my girlfriend and I were talking about taking a road trip to Niagara Falls this summer, just because neither of us has ever been. Anyone have any experience with a good place to stay there? Any idea if it would be reasonable to bring our dogs, or if it is not a dog-friendly trip?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Niagara Falls?
Had a great time up there... I imagine most of the area would be dog friendly but you're going to want to go places that aren't, like Cave of the Winds and the Maid of the Mist tour...
here are some dog friendly accomodations in niagara falls new york

Can't take your dogs to the Anchor Bar either!

Niagara Falls is a great place. If you want to treat yourself one night, for a later dinner (after it gets dark) eat at the Skylon - Revolving restaurant that over looks the falls.
It's quite the sight - and like I said I prefer it at night, when the falls are lit up.

Re: Niagara Falls?
I think its easier if you stay on the Canadian side of the falls.

That's what I was planning on. I may not have specified that in my original post.masteen wrote:I think its easier if you stay on the Canadian side of the falls.

Re: Niagara Falls?
Have a great trip! I stopped by there last year when I finished some meetings early and had about 5 hours to kill before my flight. It is an amazing place. I wish I could have done more with the time I had.

Cool place. Love all the negative ions generated by the falls. It gives the air such a fresh smell to it....even on the Canadian side!

The ironic thing is that the American side is the one packed with industial areas, factories and chemical plants.Winnow wrote:Cool place. Love all the negative ions generated by the falls. It gives the air such a fresh smell to it....even on the Canadian side!
The Canadian side has commercial/tourist areas, hydroelectric plants, golf courses and theme parks.

Re: Niagara Falls?
My wife and I are wanting to do a 3-4 day trip there some day. Let me know how it goes. I had a trip all planned out this year, but the week we wanted to go got demolished with other obligations.
Has anyone been there in the winter?

Don't go there in the winter. You can't really do much. The boat trips don't run in the winter.Has anyone been there in the winter?

Yea, in the winter, Niagara Falls is just not very much fun.

Re: Niagara Falls?
Man Costa Rica is beautiful. The rainforests look like you are in Jurrassic Park, wildlife everywhere. We have seen volcano's, waterfalls, hand fed Tucan birds and marmasets , walked through butterfly and hummingbird sanctuaries. Eaten with my brother at his bosses mansion. Bullet ants are possibly the craziest looking ants I have seen. Driving is as bad as it was in Italy. We are heading south to the beach and golf next.
I have to say ziplining over 1000ft across a valley and over a river was one of the most amazing things I have done.

Re: Niagara Falls?
bleh, had a nice long discourse but it timed out,
highlites:
Border ID, need a passport or passport card or enhanced drivers licence to return to the US.
Dogs, use to need a long quarantine period to import pets to Canada. Had best check on that.

Is there more security required to get into the US than to get out? Someone could get stuck in limbo!Knarlz wrote:Border ID, need a passport or passport card or enhanced drivers licence to return to the US.

This kicked in this June. There is an unoffical grace period where if you have a drivers licence AND birth certificate, you can return but get the runaround for an hour or so at customs.Aslanna wrote:Is there more security required to get into the US than to get out? I happen to live in Grand Island NY, 10 minutes from the Falls, and use a passport card for land crossings. ( full blown passport required for air travel returns now )
Summer border delays are down from 1-2 hours to minutes now. Mainly from this requirement. It has killed casual crossings.
It's a US requirement not Canadian but I do see a lot more folks being turned around going into Canada. Maybe they punt folks back to the US with out US required return ID, so as they never quite left the US. I'm sure it's a pain for them though.

Re: Niagara Falls?
No quarantine in transporting pets between US and Canada:
-Dogs must be free of evidence of diseases communicable to humans when possibly examined at the port of entry.
- Valid rabies vaccination certificate (including an expiration date usually up to 3 years from the actual vaccine date and a veterinarian's signature). If no expiration date is specified on the certificate, then the certificate is acceptable if the date of the vaccination is not more than 12 months before the date of arrival. The certificate must show that the dog had the rabies vaccine at least 30 days prior to entry.

Re: Niagara Falls?
I live an hour from Niagara Falls, have been many times.
If you want fancy and nice / relaxing, get a Fallsview room at the Embassy Suites, spring for the Suite rooms for a jacuzzi, huge window, doube king bed, (yes two king beds pushed together for so much room), a separate living room, and more. Also the hotel has an awesome dining room overlooking the falls.
If you want to do the party scene and don't care about the extras, do the Days Inn on Clifton Hill. It's across the road from the Casino (Embassy is close to the other casino, btw) and it's a 2 minute walk from the main bars and clubs. It's always been clean and quiet when I was there.
If you want cheap and quiet but not *too* far away, Day's Inn on river road is a good choice. Plan on Taxi-cabbing it if you're drinking, the city's not hard at all to drive in however.
Strip Clubs can be found on Lundy's Lane. Seductions is good if you're planning on going, though I think you said you were going with your woman so I'm guessing strip clubs are out.
Stay away from cheap motels there, they're absolute garbage. Like, horrible garbage.
There's a Hilton - I've never stayed at, nor have I stayed at the casinos, so I can't comment on them.
Yank's is a bar by the Day's Inn with awesome wings, btw.
Also check out the Maid of the Mist boat tours or the board walk to the falls (if that's open, it's literally a wooden catwalk that takes you up to the falls at the bottom where there's hurricane power winds and a lot of noise -- its closed a lot though afaik).
Fun Bars / Clubs: Mardi Gras, Rumors -- more or less 18 - 25 years old crowd. Worth checking out if you like loud club music and expensive beers.
Yanks: Chill bar with live music on weekends, also another bar next door with live music, dont know the name of it.
Strip Clubs: Seductions, Mint's and Peppermints (upstairs / downstairs, one with males one with females). Sundowners (across from Seductions, a little more "tame")
Poker Rooms @ casinos have like an hour wait, so get on the list asap if you want to play. Be prepared for rich guys who call everything and try to push you all in all the time if you dont have deep pockets on no limit tables. Be prepared for people who call with ANYTHING on limit tables.
LCBO (Liquor Control Board) is the best liquor store to go to in town. There is two or three of them around. Taxi is the way to go.
Hope that helps.
