Yep during one of the umpteen bizzilion award shows recently he was up for an award she was announcing and announced David Bow-E ( as in take a Bow, not as in a bow and arrow) like Wowwee. Then looked all confused.

Today's young generation is almost totally and completely worthless; Avril is just the tip of the iceberg. Make no mistake; America is doomed within 20 to 30 years. The ratio is smart people to absolute idiots in our society is about 1:1,000,000.

I blame the Power Rangers. Raising our kids on that show has had the kind of effect no amount of paint chips and toxic chemicals could surpass.

Well, Bowie and the Sex Pistols were well past their heydey before she was even born. I dunno... I suppose because I have 2 nieces around that age I can sorta understand the ignorance. On the bright side, they both detest Avril Lavigne.

True, but that's still no real excuse for a girl who takes up the banner of popular music. Talented musicians are expected to research the past; even if they don't like it, they should at least have a working knowledge of it. Any self-respecting 'punk' artist should know who the Sex Pistols were, and respect the debt they owe Cid and company.

And when in doubt, acknowleding one's own ingorance gracefully is the best way to save face. Avril not only didn't know who her influences were; she didn't care. She has proclaimed in many an interview and awards show that she could give less than a fuck who helped create her genre. That sort of attitude gets no points in my book, even for a genre that praises bad attitudes.

The reason I give Avril such a hard time is because her peers have proven themselves much more classy. John Mayer, someone I detest, has at least proven himself very knowledgeable of the history of rock and pop music. And he has the self-deprecating sense of humor to admit he's no legend. Someone like that, roughly Avril's age, makes Avril look like a moron by comparison.
