Xbox Live Primetime / 1 vs 100
So last friday as well as last night, I got to play 1 vs 100 in Xbox Live Primetime!
Microsoft decided to run the 1 vs 100 beta in Canada of all places and while there were major issues of disconnections on Friday night, last night was smooth saling throughout the whole 2 hours the show/game ran.
The way they have things setup is as follows. Everyone playing is in the same room. a person out of everyone there gets to be the one, another 100 people chosen at random are the 100(or the mob as they are known) and the rest are in the crowd. When you enter 1 vs 100's lobby, you get assigned to a group of 4 people. I think they will will do an analysis of friends and friends of friends bacause there's always at least 1 person from my friends list when I play.
Like the gameshow, there's a series of trivia questions that everyone has to answer. As people from the mob get them wrong, they are eliminated. The more people are eliminated, the more points the One gets. The points total increases every 10 people are knocked out and the scale goes from 160 to 10000.
After a few rounds, the One gets the option to keep going with the questions or cash out. If he cashes out, he wins whatever his last plateau is in Microsoft points. There are 2 people last night in the 2 hours that could've walked away with 6000 Microsoft points.
Now if the one fails, whatever he had gotten in score is devided between the remaining people in the mob. They also get free arcade games(not sure is those are chosen by the players or automatically my MS.)
There is also prizes for the crowd. The people with the top 3 scores in the crowd will win MS points, arcade games and so on.
A lot of the game is scripted but every now and again, the On Air logo pops up and Microsoft has a live announcer that does commentary on how everything is doing and generally engages the crowd.
At the peak last night, he was saying that there was over 16k people playing the game.
I am extremely impressed with what Microsoft is pulling off here. When I first heard about Primetime last year I thought they were being overly ambitious but it looks like they're really in track to pull this off.

If I ever get to use my xbox, I'll be all over this... I picked up the iPhone 1 vs 100, which is very disappointing.

Oh god, it's all Canadian trivia. I hope I'm not forced to play with these questions when the game launches for reals.

You hear that? That's the sound of the ball that was dropped hitting the ground.

Kotaku is reporting that last night's game was capped at 50k but that they will be removing the cap for Saturday's show.
Was @ 10:30PM here so I didn't even try to get on.

Re: Xbox Live Primetime / 1 vs 100
That was a really, really stupid move. Hype something up for how long, and then put a low limit on how many people can join, I am willing to bet a good number of people were put off by that.
That being said I got in after the first hour had passed. It was fun, I did decent and liked how it was set up. I didn't mind the commercial interruptions because they were short and easy enough to ignore. The first game I played I answered one question wrong the whole game, I had such a good streak going!
Anyhow, after trying to get in about 50 times or so and finally getting in it was a blast, I'll definitely be playing on Saturday. To confirm what animalor said, at the end of the show they confirmed the stupid cap won't be in place anymore.

Nope, no more silly Canadian beta
This Saturday there is a regular 2 hour beta show at 7pm, and a special E3 edition at 9 and 9:30pm. I can't remember what time zone those times are but you can probably get more info on the dashboard.

Any programs I have to download ahead of time? Or do I just need to catch it before the start time on the Dashboard?

Just be there when it starts, you do like a 10 second download and that's it.
