Shogun: Total War
I recently found this game at Kmart for less than $10 so I picked it up. So far I am getting my ass kicked on a regular basis. Anyone have insight as to what I should be doing?

Build, build, build your upgrade buildings. Upgrades are THE key to winning Shogun: Total War. In fact, the entire purpose of your research should be to obtain the Geisha assassin unit. Geishas are the Terminators of the game -- capable of assassinating (with ease) any enemy general, diplomat, heir, or shogun. Theoretically, one Geisha is enough to win the game against almost impossible odds. But to back her up, build a few of those "Sword Saint" guys (I forget their name in Japanese, but they're single units that can decimate entire armies. Basically, they're jedi knights).
One Geisha > 1,000,000 troops. Trust me.
One Geisha > 1,000,000 troops. Trust me.

That game would be 40x better if there were no geisha. Is there anything like that in midieval?

Sadly, I agree. The geisha unit, while cool for the first 5 minutes you use her, cheapens the game immensely. The first person to get a legendary geisha automatically wins. There's no real fun in that.Neziroth wrote:That game would be 40x better if there were no geisha. Is there anything like that in midieval?
I've never played Medieval: TW, but I hope the developers learned from their previous game balancing mistakes. One thing I did love about Shogun was the fact that the splintered factions of a fallen daimyo's clan could reunite randomly. That was SO cool! I hope they kept that in Medieval.

I haven't really played Shogun enough to be able to fairly compare it to Medieval yet. I really like MTW and they have an expansion coming out soon called Viking Invasion. I'll pick that one up for sure. Shogun was obviously made before Medieval so there are features that it lacks that I have grown accustomed to.
