Ok, so this is one of my absolute favorite books from my childhood. It seems a stretch to make a feature film out of it, but I can't imagine a better person at the helm than Spike Jonze. I've loved his previous films, and he seems to have a knack for exploring our dreams, alternate states of consciousness, etc.
Anyhow, the trailer made my heart leap. I'm glad there's no CGI. It looks just like the book, but live-action... *boggle*

I went and saw this over the weekend. It was really good! Excellent acting by the kid. The voice acting was really good as well, and it certainly was a pretty film. Gandolfini may have been a bit too much in his Tony Soprano character. It didn't detract too much though. Spike Jonze did another excellent job.
I'm toying with taking my daughter to this. She's been asking to go to a theater for some time, but she also still occasionally goes "TURN IT OFF, STOP IT"* when she doesn't like the plot of a show and she's getting scared. She promised she wouldn't if she were in a theater, but I still remember leaving two kids films before the movie actually started w/ my ex-stepdaughter and I'm not anxious for a repeat performance

*Hrm, maybe she should have screened the Star Wars Holiday Special and prevented it.
How old is your daughter now? This seems more of a PG-type...a bit borderline for kids under 10 I imagine. I say this because the kid is pretty freakishly "wild" before he goes wherever the fuck he goes.
No foul language or excessive violence, but the sex scenes are pretty rough*.
