Twitter is already starting to get annoying as far as S/N is concerned. A good blogpost about it here: http://www.twine.com/item/123c9051b-g8/ ... ppen-to-it

Good article. S/N is crazy on twitter, and getting worse. Using tweetdeck, while not perfect, to filter out as much of the noise as possible helps. Hopefully twitter's back-end and API, along with apps like tweetdeck will continue to improve. My biggest gripe with twitter is hashtag spam. It annoys the hell out of me to have, for example, #tcot retards shitting up a tag's chatter with trolls and RT bullshit from or inspired by Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, Michelle Malkin or Ayn Rand.Drolgin Steingrinder wrote:Twitter is already starting to get annoying as far as S/N is concerned. I don't post (I hate the word "tweet"!) much on twitter because I don't have much to say, but I do use it to follow a few news types as well as hashtags that are of interest to me. I occasionally allow myself to get drawn into an argument with a troll on a given hashtag, but that's about the extent of my public output to twitter. Chatter on my following list is tolerable, but some of my favorite hashtags already require too much effort to keep up with.

Tweetdeck needs crazy amounts of customization options to really be viable, I feel. But I'm guessing that will come... As it is, between favorite bloggers, news sources and friends, it's getting hard to sort. Especially on a 13" laptop monitor.

Isn't most of the content inane? BTW, that guy needs an editor for his blogHypertweeting. Some Twitter users tweet legitimately, but far too much. Or the content they tweet is just innane. In doing so they market themselves and dominate everyone's attention with their presence.

As with most fads, I'm going to be late to this party. I'm on there, but only check it like once a month. On the other hand I check myspace almost daily, and I just joined facebook a couple months ago but check it often as well. Twitter is way too fast paced though. One of the people I'm following puts clutters my page like mad. She's loony. Her name is Ana Marie Cox and she's some reporter.

I gave in to Facebook, but I've managed to skip Myspace and Twitter. I wish I had skipped Facebook.

Use Tweetdeck, it makes filtering and grouping easy and enables you to not miss "important" tweets.

If I don't know what they are, can they really be "important"?

A tweet is a message or post or update or whatever you want to call it in twitter. Sometimes I tweet on my Blackberry while I'm pooping. I call that twooting.Ashur wrote:If I don't know what they are, can they really be "important"?

I don't get twitter at all. Isn't it basically people posting very short text messages about what they're doing? Going to dinner, peeing, and other stuff that isn't that interesting?

I can see a blog being useful for some and forums are useful for discussion but a constant stream of crap being "twittered" has fad written all over it....don't care if it's more popular than the Wii.

It can be a lot more than that. For example, I follow a handful of news outlets. As those news organizations post an article, a tweet is sent out with a URL to that article. Twitter will probably be the standard for communicating in the future.

Why not just use an RSS feed for that? There's lots of RSS apps out there.Spang wrote:It can be a lot more than that. For example, I follow a handful of news outlets. Twitter is faster & easier.
That said I still refuse to use it if only because it's got a ghey ass name.

Re: Dr. Drew sent me a direct message on twitter.
Matt Damon tweeted today:
matt_damon: Hi guys, not tweeted in a while. I'm looking for a strange gift for a friend. Thought I'd open up that brief to the twittersphere...
matt_damon: You know something quirky. It's for a couple...
Spangaloid: How about a Barack Obama dildo? http://headostate.com/
matt_damon: @spangaloid has set the bar for as strange as it can get...Maybe something a little LESS strange?
matt_damon: To be clear I definitely mean quirky, not kinky. So we can definitely count out the Obama dildo.
