Stuck on an island

Post by Sendarie »

Hey guys...been a while.

Always gotten good advice at least when it comes to video games from this forum.
Just finished a tour in Iraq...had enough boredom during downtime so I'm picking up a nice fairly hardcore gaming laptop.
Fortunately being in the UAV world I'm very soon on my way back to Afghanistan this time.
Been away from gaming for a good while now.

If you knew you were going to be stuck with no TV, cable, internet etc but had a gaming machine what would the top 5 games be you would take with you?

Thanks

I like the Total War Series and Civilization is great.

If you like soccer, get the World Football Manager. That thing is DEEEEEEEP and complex and can really eat up the hours if you like management type sims.

On a side note, thank you for your service to our country. I hope you stay safe.
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. For the people who even bother to go through that, most assholes just accept what it is anyway and get on with it." - John Lennon

Not sure if this counts.. But I'd bring MAME with a fully current romset. Of course if one doesn't like 'retro' they can cross that off the list. It's staying on mine though!

Otherwise not very many games these days that would hold my interest for long periods of time that I could stand to play over and over. Being in a warzone I'd probably cross shooters of the list. If it were me I'd want something that helped me forget about where I was.

Definately one (or all) of the Total War games...
Civ4 is also a good call.
Fallout 3 and Oblivion are long games with awesome replayability.

i recommend emulators too for time killers on a laptop. ive been traveling a lot lately and they are great for a quick distraction that you can stop and start any time.. plus they usually get twice as much game time out of the batteries.

Great thanks for the tips guys.

Definately going out to pick up Fallout 3 and gonna take another probably 4-5 of the suggestions here and either pick up or download them (as available) this weekend.

Last trip someone had an old copy of Dungeon Siege 1 and 2 hacked versions. Man those were fun as hell. Really enjoy the non turn based RPG's and once upon a time tried and played Morrowind but never made it terribly far....time to try it again it seems.

I really enjoyed Mass Effect. It's not open ended as some of the others, but I have had fun replaying it through a few times.

Actually it's not open ended at all. The storyline is pretty linear but there are a lot of side quests.

Oh, if you like Diablo-esque action RPGs, you absolutely MUST get Titan Quest.
You can get the Titan Quest Gold package from Steam for $20. It's worth every penny.

I have nothing to add for game suggestions that haven't been mentioned but would like to thank you for your service as well.

Now I spend a minimum of 4 months of every year in one of my 2 most favoritest countries ever so I havent bothered getting into any MMO's anymore as I'm not much of a half asser.

Miir...sounds right up my ally, gonna order that one for sure.

Winnow, Alsanna, Dak or any of the others that knew me feel free to drop me a PM if/when your in Vegas. I'll drink a beer with you or can take you folks out to poke and look at our shiny UAV's (Pred/Reaper) up at Indian Springs.
