Lie To Me
Anyone else watch the premiere on Wednesday? I checked it out cause I thought it looked good, and I tend to like Tim Roth. I thought it was a pretty good show and I'll definitely be watching next week.

Re: Lie To Me
The first episode was decent, though I'm wondering if it's going to be able to sustain. The first episode was interesting in that you learned a bunch of different ways to tell if a person is lying and such. Then they'd utilize that on the characters in the show. Now however, you know them all and there's nothing new to learn about the process. So basically I'm guessing this is going to be just another CSI, Law/Order, NCIS, etc except with a guy that can tell if you're lying instead of forensics. I like the lead actor guy though, so hopefully I'm wrong.
I'd still rather have Journeyman back.

Re: Lie To Me
I like Tim Roth.. But he's not enough to sell me on this show. I saw the commercials for it and was totally uninterested. Note that I don't like crime shows in general and dont watch any of those either.

I heard really good things about this from people who are - or at least pretend to be - in the know.Funkmasterr wrote:Anyone else watch the premiere on Wednesday? Re: Lie To Me
I missed this one, I will have to check it out. I have to admit, one of my guilty tv pleasures this year has been Leverage, not particularly innovative, but it is done well and kills an hour easily.
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. For the people who even bother to go through that, most assholes just accept what it is anyway and get on with it." - John Lennon

I've been watching Leverage too. Decent mindless entertainment for the most part.

Re: Lie To Me
Watched the first episode. Not bad, but the zoom-ins of people's little twitches felt kind of dumbed down to me (too "on the nose") and therefore I can see it getting old real fast. How the show develops its characters will determine whether this will be a favorite of the House crowd... or the CSI crowd

I watched the first episode the morning after online. I liked it. I think it will be one of my shows that I watch when I can at work. Just like Fringe.

Re: Lie To Me
Episode last night was good too. It's definitely not the best show ever made or anything, but it's the only show besides Weeds that I'm interested in enough to watch
The character development seems like it will be a bit slow, but assuming the show actually sticks around for a while, that's fine by me.

Re: Lie To Me
I've watched both episodes, and while I enjoyed them, they certainly didn't give me the impression that the show had any sort of longevity in terms of holding my attention.
I like Tim Roth a lot, but I was sort of expecting another House, and the show doesn't deliver in that regard. It looks like the mystique of the show will dry out very quickly and frankly, every character besides Tim Roth's annoys the bejesus out of me (especially the "radically honest" guy).
But i'll give it a few more episodes before I decide not to watch it. It could take a turn for the better, but I just don't see it having any lasting appeal for me. I don't watch a lot of television, and when I do I'm pretty picky about what I'll watch. I don't see myself watching this show in two months or whatever.

Re: Lie To Me
Well I gave it 4 episodes and I think that's going to be it. Its just too ridiculous, about as realistic as someone solving crimes based on the smell of the suspect's farts.
I especially hate the smug looks the main chick character gets everytime Roth's character catches someone doing something "telling." She overacts pretty much every emotion too. There's nothing "micro" about her "expressions"

Did you know that the character Tim Roth plays is supposed to be based off a real guy who did/does this kind of stuff for the goverment?
I wouldn't call it unrealistic at all. I guess I'm still enjoying it though, it's a nice break from the shit hole tv has turned into for me.The science of deception detection is based on the work of Dr. Paul Ekman who is the world’s leading deception expert.
"Lie To Me” creator and executive producer, Samuel Baum, has enlisted the consulting help of Dr. Ekman, who has contracted himself with the Secret Service, the Department of Homeland Security as well as every government agency to consult in deception-related fields.

Re: Lie To Me
I love Tim Roth... and Ekman is truly a genius when it comes to truth and lies, but this show blew it for both of them. It could've and should've been so much better. Hope someone takes a different approach and makes it into a better show, but this...just sucked.
Re: Lie To Me
How did this series make it to Season 2? I never watched it just wondering. The commercials never enticed me enough to want to watch it

It's actually a pretty cool show. I like it.

Bubba uses what he's learned from this show to try and determine if Brett Farve is lying about his latest retirement announcements.

Re: Lie To Me
Don't need training for that. Pretty much everything he says can be considered a lie. I knew he wasn't going to stay retired like he said the time before he signed with the Vikings.
Don't want to derail this thread. I find myself looking at people when they talk and try and see the tells that they see in the show. It's pretty cool.

Re: Lie To Me
I havent watched any episodes of this but every week I see a preview for the current episode and it goes something like this:
Guest Bad person: "blah blah blah"
Main Character: "you're lying"
huh? seems like that would get old after the first episode.
Next week's preview:
Guest Bad person: "blah blah blah"
Main Character: "you're lying"

Re: Lie To Me
It did. I'm a big fan of Tim Roth, but this show is far too formulaic and lazy. The study of microexpressions is very interesting. The true masters like Ekman(who Roth's character is based off) are virtually impossible to lie too- far far better than any "lie detector" machine and it's fascinating to realize how little we can control when we lie. Our bodies and faces naturally defend against lies- there is nothing we can do about it whatsoever...huh? seems like that would get old after the first episode.
However this show turned out to be entirely based on this one gimmick of microexpression and didn't focus enough on good characters and plot.
