Inaugural Address

Post by Winnow »

Anyone else nervous about tomorrow's inaugural address?

There's going to be a shit ton of people there. Even with the massive security, my nervis are huge. I'll be happy when it's over.

I'm only upset about how my company is basically telling most of the people that they can go watch it, and they're telling leadership to man the phones while they do so.

Why not? You know there's the redneck KKK contingent out there that will do whatever it takes to take the power back. I don't want him to end up like Kennedy before he's even had the chance to do anything.

Socially and culturally for the USA, this is an important day. A great day! And I'm glad to be alive to see it.

Let's hope Obama doesn't just immediately prove any hypocrisy as he eats his Lincoln flavoured lunch whilst innocent people in Gaza die due to his tacit support of Israeli genocide.

He, much like the rest of the shitheap that was once great that is America, has a lot to prove.

Not sure what the hypocrisy would be. Doubt you'll find any president who would come out and harshly criticize Israel directly.

Blame Hamas for most of those innocents dying as they pretty much provoked the latest round of "Israeli genocide".

If you think the situation is black and white then you should not be calling anyone here an idiot.

If someone started shooting missles randomly into Ireland are they not going to expect some retaliation? They both have been wrong at various points in this ongoing conflict and anyone who thinks Hamas is not at least somewhat evil in its own right has no place calling people idiots.

I don't know why people say that our President is the most powerful person in the world, when you have clearly shown you speak for everyone in the world in every post. I am stunned politicians aren't banging down your door asking for information on how to proceed when you are so clearly in touch with world sentiment.

oh yeah I forgot to add the amiright and hurrrrrrrrrrrrrr so you can understand the post.

*everytime you post I think about an encounter I had at the airport. I had a college kid notice the logo on my shirt and he asked me what our company was. I told him and he starts asking me how much of our power was green. He said his teacher had told him we should be using strictly green power and anyone who says otherwise is stupid. I asked him if he paid his electric bill. He said no (of course not) and I then proceeded to explain that in theory it would be great to live by his professors grand proposition, but with the current technology it takes 1 kw of power to generate 1 kw of wind power, solar has even worse payback and if we forced what he wanted our electric bills would skyrocket. I also told him we would need to spend billions to upgrade and build transmission lines.

College is a great time to become idealistic and hopeful, but they need to present both sides of the issue. There is rarely black and white as I said before just various shades of gray. I am glad you think the world works so clearly, enjoy it because real life will hit you one day and you will realize the many layers you have to navigate to get to some semblence of truth.

By Nick's standards, Bush should be praised for this glorious pullout by Israel. How the U.S. managed a truce in the situation with all the crises at home is just amazing and should be put forth to remember his legacy by.

So you're saying that Israel is justified in killing nearly a thousand Palestinian civilians in response to 10 Israeli soldiers and 3 civilians being killed and a bit of property damage?

They were bombing UN building, schools and churches, for fuck sakes...

Would it be different if, in response to Israeli airstrikes in Gaza, Palestine (supported by Iran and Syria) were to launch a full-scale assault on Israel that resulted in a hundred thousand Israeli civilian casualties?

So it's all fun and games until someone gets hurt? Where was your moral outrage at the preceding thousands of rockets? Oh hehe, Israeli's are able to defend themselves, and know how to take shelter, it's not fair. Oh yeah, they also blow up the sources of the rockets so they can't continue to fire in the volume or accuracy. And while debatable - at least on the surface Israeli's try to target the source of the rockets - are you really going to complain they hit these schools/mosques/UN buildings, when they are firing next to or within? Oh oh, magic line, you can't cross - the carpet is lava. The people firing the rockets into Israel *never* sought a specific target, except 'somewhere in Israel', with the hope that it would hit civilians. They never targeted the military presence intentionally. Any kills they actually acquired were sheer luck, and in at least a couple of the cases - friendly fire. Also, the hilarity (in the saddest sense of course) of Hamas being able to 'finally justify' killing civilians and women and children, etc because the Israelis were doing it. So now it's ok for them? When exactly did they stop for them to resume?

The detachment of reality for you people borders on ludicrous. I doubt anyone actually 'supports' the killing of people on either side - but to actually try and put the entirety of the blame on a nation that knows it is being watched by the world, while turning a blind eye to the rampant extremism of the few, that take shelter amidst the innocent is as they say, ridonculous.

So a little kid walks up to a big kid and kicks him in the shins, and then gets pushed over - it's the big kids fault for being bigger? While parents usually use that justification both they and the child know it's bullshit. Why do you think so many people grow up to become dwarf tossers?!

So would the US be the big kid's even bigger friend that is standing there watching the exchange? Are all the other Muslim countries in the area the smaller kid's friends that all want to jump on the Jew and beat him gang style, but are afraid to because the big kid's friend is packing nunchuks and is itching to beat someone's ass?

Both above are also accurate portrayals. Lets throw in little kid sees he kicks big kid, gets pushed over, and sees parents scold larger kid - thus knowing while he gets hurt a bit, the person he torments gets tormented as well. So Hamas is a brat, and Israel is a bully, and all the parents are douche bags for not actually instilling better values in their children. If only they weren't left behind....

It's all fucked up - my only beef is the 'It's all Israel's fault'. Both sides share blame, in many layers (like an onion) going back decades if not centuries. The saddest part is, that area was one of the first place where Muslims, Jews, and Christians were all able to use it as a central place of knowledge and sharing of ideals - before all 3 decided that it housed the holiest of holy relics/churches/monuments/lands/whatever - and wanted to get the rest out. It's as if the Brady Bunch started the biggest family feud ever.

Nobody is blaming the whole conflict on Israel... just their actions in the past 4-5 weeks.

Both sides are to blame in the ongoing conflict but Israel's overreaction in this past month is ridiculous...
You don't aim a rocket launcher at someone throwing a stone.

If Palestine had taken similar action against Israel, they would (and should) be facing the same criticism.

If you are holding a rock, you know the other person has bigger rocks, a better arm and better aim, are you going to start a rock fight? If you do, is it really the other guys fault if he responds.

Do you forget that many of the surrounding countries and especially radical groups in those countries want to see the end of Israel and the destruction of the Jewish race. I think they are going to feel a little touchy when people start trying to kill them regardless of the weapon.

I have also noticed the tendency of these radical groups to set up shop and hold weapons near places like hospitals, Mosques, and schools. They know that if a target is missed by even a small amount they can drum up support with the visuals of dead kids. It is bullshit.

I saw today that the Taliban is now threatening bus drivers in Pakistan. Any bus found to be playing music or movies for its passengers will be targeted for suicide bombings. They say the entertainment is an assault on the Pious persons ears. So apparently killing them is not an assault, but a little music is inexcuseable?

We need to remove ourselves from this part of the world for a while, unfortunately the majority of the people who are normal, non-wacked out religious fanatics will pay for this. How could Bush ever think he could defeat an enemy that would blow up civilians, including children to stop a bus from playing music is beyond me?

When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. How exactly is killing 700+ civilians 'defending themselves'?

Some reports have Hamas shooting 6000 missiles over the past 3 years, the fact they can't hit people does not mean they were not trying. They have shtty technology but the intention was there. Read my post above, why start a fight when you know your are outgunned?

ok lets use the playground analogy. I am the big bully, I am taller, stronger and tougher then you. You walk up and hit me once, it doesn't hurt, I would warn you to stop. You haul off and hit me 10 more times, again no real hurt. I guarantee you I will eventually hit back and when I do, it will be hard since I want it to end. I am going to hurt you. Both of us are ultimately at fault, but you really started it and should have predicted the outcome. Hamas had no regard for their citizens lives and are just as guilty that 700 people are dead.

Does that make sense.

I guess I can see that.
