Every kid who participates gets a trophy!

Post by Xyun »

Republicans have said constantly over the past few years that by virtue of having become president, George W. Bush deserves a modicum of respect from us, that the title of president itself demands loyalty, faith, and trust. But sadly, no human is perfect, and when imperfections shine with the radiance of a midnight bomb over Baghdad, it is impossible not to notice them. It is impossible to overlook the tribulations and tragedies that have saturated the last eight years.

As he leaves office, George Bush has embarked once again on a propaganda crusade. His last and most necessary one, in order to convince us that his was not a failed presidency, not even a flawed presidency. The Legacy Project, as it has been properly labeled, is yet another media blitzkrieg by an administration mired with them. But this time the objective is not to start an illegal war, not to justify illegal invasions of privacy, not to pardon the illegal acts of traitors in his office, not to congratulate the incompetency of his cronies, not to rationalize a failed economic policy, not even to excuse torture, but to exonerate himself from the culmination of all of these and to whitewash his entire presidency.

With the audacity and magnanimity of an Abu Ghraib prison guard he stands before us and asks us to focus on his kindness and compassion. But we must deny him, for a kind buffoon is still a buffoon, and a compassionate criminal is still a criminal. And to those who wish to chastise us for it, those who have forgotten or never learned the principles this great country was founded upon, those who wish to grant him a trophy just for participating, we must remind them that the presidency of the United States of America is not little league baseball. We must remind them that a successful, humble leader does not need a legacy project, that in these United States no man is above the law, and that there is no A for effort, there is only an F for failure.

Are you trying to be a douche or are you so bored that you have to find shit to stir up because you ran everyone in here off and now realize that there is nothing left? Dumbass Bush actually admitted to mistakes he made on video, so how exactly does that translate to "not a flawed presidency"? Did he fuck a lot of stuff up? Yup...sure did. Did he do a good job on some things in the face of the worst set of events (and outside of his control entirely) to hit this country in the last 100 years? Yes...he did. His biggest failure by far was Iraq, and that is his legacy. It is impossible to label him as the worst president in the last 50 years, much less ever. I am sure you were not alive or old enough to remember Jimmy Carter, but his time in office may be tough to beat for incompetence.

My DVR has a political agenda. It somehow recorded, and correctly labeled, his "farewell speech" last night instead of Bones. It would have been acceptable if it had recorded the speech and labeled it as Bones, but it did not.

If that motherfucker would've taken just a minute to at least acknowledge the heroism that took place on the Hudson river in his speech, or acknowledge the real mistakes of his time in office, or even quietly slipped into the shadows rather than loudly pronounce his exultancy I wouldn't have cared enough to write about it. But much like his entire time in office, he was too self absorbed and too concerned with spinning the truth. I don't claim he is the worst president in history, but goddamn enough is enough already.

I'm sorry I ran off your friends Kilmoll. I truly enjoyed torching them. You are right, you moderates bore me. I wish they'd come back cause I need some fanatics to attack! Unban cart?

It is only going to get worse. Obama is being proclaimed as some kind of deity and the fucker has not even been in office 1 day yet. They already put some of his fucking campaign items into the Smithsonian and they are selling Obama commemorative coins all over TV proclaiming him as the "hope". Christs sake indeed.

Obama will be a better President than Bush.

I noticed the shift with Bush and his legacy about 2-3 months ago. He's really trying to paint a beautiful picture using nothing but handfuls of shit. I don't think Bush is a bad man, however, he was a horrible President and the country has suffered because of it.

I'm an American and this is how I feel when I hear it!

Maybe I should have watched what my DVR recorded...or not. He didn't mention this event at all?! That would have fit in perfectly with the brief clips I caught as I was switching channels before passing out. Heck, I remember even thinking about how his speech writers were probably scrambling to get it inserted into the speech to show how he was somehow responsible for the behavior of the people involved with the rescue.

SO he's a dick for not mentioning it and would have been a dick for mentioning it. I get it. I'm pretty sure he was responsible for global warming changes which altered the migration pattern of birds that caused this accident. Thank (whatever athiests thank) that Obama and David Patterson kept their heads and were able to land the plane safely.

Seriously, I'm willing to bet money, in the casino you run, where you are the house, that if he had mentioned the plane at all, the phrase "Failed president tries to latch on to heroism of others" or something to that effect would have been posted ;P

Perhaps to spice it up and make it newsy, it would read: "Floundering president attempts to float on success of heroic pilot down the Hudson"

Hypothetical Scenario: Bush was the pilot landing the plane - "Former Air Force Pilot nearly drowns everyone in tin can, can't find dry land due to incompetence in administration"

Trophy plz! I want the one from that trucking game where You are winnr or something like that.

i used to be a lot more moderate and a lot more tempered. You know what changed? You know what pushed me further to the left? Anger.

And what do I have to be so angry about?

Although I know most of you won't take 10 minutes out of your life to watch it, it encapsulates my anger and the reason I act and talk the way I do on this forum and others. You motherfuckers will shrug it off, as if it is irrelevant -- but it means everything to me. I dare you to find a single falsity in that entire video.

I agree Bush sucked, but there is absolutely no way I can watch 10 minutes of that douche-windbag Olbermann...he is just as bad in his own way as any of the talking heads on Fox News.
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. For the people who even bother to go through that, most assholes just accept what it is anyway and get on with it." - John Lennon

yea, I figured there would be some people who said that. This report wasn't written by KO, it was written by one of his producers. Here is the transcript if you don't want to watch the video. (bold emphasis mine)
George Walker Bush.
43rd president of the United States.
first ever with a criminal record.
our third story tonight,
his presidency: eight years in eight minutes.

early in 2001 the U.S. fingered Al Qaeda
for the bombing of the USS Cole
Bush counterterrorism adviser Richard Clarke
had a plan to take down Al Qaeda.
instead by February the NSC
had already discussed invading Iraq,
and had a plan for post-Saddam Iraq.

by March 5 Bush had a map ready for Iraqi oil exploration
and a list of companies.
Al Qaeda?
Rice told Clarke not to give Bush a lot of long memos.
not a big reader.

August 6, 2001
a CIA analyst briefs Bush on vacation:
"Bin Laden determined to strike in U.S."
Bush takes no action tells the briefer—quote
all right, you've covered your ass now.

next month Clarke requests
using new predator drones to kill Bin Laden
the Pentagon and CIA
say no.

September 11th
Bush remains seated for several minutes
to avoid scaring school children
by getting up and leaving.
he then flies around the country
and promises quote a full scale investigation to find
those folks who did it

Rumsfeld says Afghanistan does not have enough targets
we've got to do Iraq.
when the CIA traps Bin Laden at Tora Bora
it asks for 800 rangers to cut off his escape
Bush outsources the job to Pakistanis
sympathetic to the Taliban
Bin Laden
gets away

in February General Tommy Franks tells a visiting Senator
Bush is moving equipment out of Afghanistan
so he can invade Iraq.
one of the men who prepped Rice for her testimony
that Bush did not ignore pre 9-11 warnings
later explains quote we cherry picked things
to make it look like the president
had been actually concerned about Al Qaeda
they didn't give a bleep about Al Qaeda

July and Britain's intel chief says Bush is
fixing intelligence and facts around the policy to take out Saddam
January 03
Bush and Blair agree to invade in March
Mr. Bush still telling us he has not decided
telling Blair they should paint an airplane in UN colors
fly it over Iraq and provoke a response
a pretext for invasion

the man who said it would take several hundred thousand troops
fired
the man who said it would cost more than a hundred billion
fired
the man who revealed Bush's yellowcake lie
smeared
his wife's covert status
exposed
the White House liars who did it
and covered it up
not fired
one convicted
Bush commutes his sentence

then in Iraq, stuff happens:
Iraq's army, disbanded
the government de-Baathified
200,000 weapons, billions of dollars just
lost
foreign mercenaries immunized from justice
political hacks run the Green Zone
religious cleansing forcing one out of six Iraqis from their homes
Abu Ghraib
the insurgency
Al Qaeda in Iraq

other stuff does not happen:
WMD
post-war planning
body armor
vehicular armor

the payoff?
oil
and billions for Halliburton, Blackwater and other companies
while Mr. Bush denies VA healthcare to 450,000 veterans
tries to raise their healthcare fees
blocks the new G.I. Bill
and increases his own power with the USA PATRIOT Act
with the Military Commissions Act
public orders exempting himself from a thousand laws
and secretly from the Presidential Records Act
The Geneva Conventions
FISA
sparking a mass rebellion at the Justice Department

secret star chambers for terrorism suspects,
overturned by Hamdan v Rumsfeld.
denying habeas corpus,
overturned by Boumediene v Bush.
200 renditionings
sleep deprivation
abuse

Rumsfeld warned in 2002 that he was torturing
that it would jeopardize convictions
out of 550 at Gitmo
hundreds ultimately go free with no charges
dozens are tortured
eight fatally
three are convicted

on U.S. soil twelve hundred immigrants rounded up
without due process
without bail
without court dates
without a single charge of terrorism

it wasn't just Mr. Bush no longer subject to the rule of law
he slashed regulations on everyone from banks to mining companies
appointed 98 lobbyists to oversee their own industries
weakening emission standards for mercury
and 650 different toxic chemicals
regulators shared drugs
and their beds
with industry reps
the Crandall Canyon mine owner told inspectors to back up
because his buddy, Republican Mitch McConnell
was sleeping with their boss
McConnell's wife is Bush Labor Secretary Elaine Chao
her agency overruled engineer concerns about Crandall Canyon
and was found negligent
after nine miners died in the collapse there

Mr. Bush's hands off
as Enron blacks out California
doubling electric bills
after months of rejecting price caps Mr. Bush bows to pressure

the blackouts end

Mr. Bush further deregulates commodity futures
midwifing the birth of unregulated oil markets
which just like Enron jack up prices to an all time high
until Congress and both presidential candidates call for regulations

and the prices fall

deregulating financial services and lax enforcement of remaining rules
created a housing bubble
creating the mortgage crisis
creating then a credit crisis
devastating industries that rely on credit
from student loans to car dealers

firms that had survived the Great Depression could not survive Bush
those that did got
seven hundred billion dollars
no strings, no transparency
no idea whether it worked

unlike the auto bailout
which cut workers' salaries.
a GOP memo called it
a chance to punish unions

but Bush failed even when his party and his patrons
did not stand to profit
investigators blamed management cost cutting communication
for missed warnings about Columbia
Bush administration convicts include
sex offenders at Homeland Security
convicted liars
every kind of thief in the calendar
and if you count things that were not prosecuted
the vice president of the United States actually
shot a man in the face

the man apologized.

Mr. Bush faked the truth
with paid propaganda in Iraq
on his education policy

tried to silence the truth about global warming
rocket fuel in our water
industry influence on energy policy

politicized the truth of science at NASA, the EPA,
the National Cancer Institute, Fish and Wildlife
and the FDA

his lies
exposed by whistleblowers from the cabinet down
"complete BS" the treasury secretary said
of Mr. Bush on his tax cuts.

Rice's mushroom cloud
Powell's mobile labs
Iraq and 9-11
Jack Abramoff
Jessica Lynch

Pat Tillman
Pat Tillman again
Pat Tillman, again.

the air at Ground Zero
most responders still suffering respiratory problems.

global warming
carbon emissions
a Clear Skies initiative lowering air quality standards
the Healthy Forests initiative increasing logging
faith based initiatives
the cost of medicare reform
fired US attorneys
politically synchronized terror alerts

the surge causing insurgents to switch sides
that abortion causes breast cancer
that his first recession began under Clinton
that he did not wiretap without warrants
that we do not torture.

that American citizen John Walker Lindh's rights
were not violated
that he refused the right to counsel

heckuva job Brownie
some survivors still in trailers
New Orleans still at just two-thirds its usual population

the lie that no one could have predicted the economic crisis
except
the economists who did
no one could have predicted 9-11 except
one ass-covering CIA analyst
or thirty
no one could have predicted the levee breach
except literally
Mr. Bill
in a PSA that aired on TV a year before Katrina

Bush actually admitted that he lied about not firing Rumsfeld
because he did not want to tell the truth.
look it up.

all of it
all of it and more leaving us with
ten trillion in debt
to pay for 31% more in discretionary spending
the Iraq War
a 1.3 trillion dollar tax cut

median income down two thousand dollars
three-quarters of all income gains under Bush
going to the richest one percent
unemployment up from 4.2 to 7.2 percent

the Dow, down from ten thousand five hundred eighty seven
to eighty two hundred seventy seven
six million now more in poverty
seven million more now without health care

buying toxic goods from China
deadly cribs
outsourcing security to Dubai
still unsecure in our ports
and at our nuclear plants
more dependent on foreign oil
out of the international criminal court
off the anti ballistic missle treaty
military readiness and standards down

with two unfinished wars
a nuclear North Korea
disengaged from the Palestinian problem
destabilizing eastern european diplomacy with
anti missile plans
and unable to keep Russia out of Georgia

2000 miles of Appalachian streams
destroyed by rubble from mountaintop mining
at his last G-8 summit,
he actually bid farewell to other world leaders
saying quote—goodbye from the world's greatest polluter

consistently undermining historic American reverence
for the institutions that empower us
education, now "academic elites"
and the law, "activist judges"
capping jury awards

and Bin Laden?
living today unmolested in a Pakistani safe haven
created by a truce endorsed and defended by George W. Bush

and among all the gifts he gave to Bin Laden
the most awful, the most damaging not just to America
but to the American ideal
was to further Bin Laden's goal
by making us act out of fear rather than fortitude

leaving us with precious little to cling to tonight
save the one thing that might yet suffice:

hope.

September 11th
Bush remains seated for several minutes
to avoid scaring school children
by getting up and leaving.
he then flies around the country
and promises quote a full scale investigation to find
those folks who did it
Exactly what is wrong with this?

Bush made a short announcement before leaving the school and then it wasn't Bush's decision on whether he few directly back to Washington. Only a fucking idiot would fly back into uncertainty while Washington DC, and the nation as a whole, is being attacked. As is procedure, Bush remained in the air and then landed at a secure destination during a time of crisis.

Obama has very little chance of surviving his single term if his advisers are going to fly the Commander in Chief to the front lines while under attack. Fucking liberal idiots. And you wonder why the country chooses Republican presidents during times of crisis. Pussy democrats are clueless. I can see it now. Iran captures U.S. hostages. Obama goes to visit them in Iran. Obama strung up by his balls in the streets of Tehran.

Besides, by this time, Cheney had already assumed control of the country and was calling the shots.

The last time the country chose a president during a time of crisis was 2008, before that it was 1980.

And thank Alla we did in 1980. Reagan kicked ass. His face should be on the 20.00 bill. In 2008, the nation has become numb to war. We shall soon see what happens when a liberal pussy starts calling the shots in international affairs. Look for lots of Americans to die in the coming years.

Also, look for a temporary market bounce and then crash sometime in 2009 to sub 7000 DJIA levels.

Of course, it will all have been Bush's fault. Liberals are good at passing blame and spending welfare checks. Socialism (people mooching off the government) doesn't work.

Pure socialism no, but then neither does pure capitalism. You've experienced neither.

Pure socialism WOULD work. The problem you have is that people are lazy and we have way more than our share that are content to sit and do nothing but collect checks and free rides while sipping on 40's and bitching about how oppressed they are.

I spoke at length about these kind of things with a guy that immigrated here from Africa. Lazy welfare bums really piss him off and he said that in their villages that the able bodied that do not pitch in their share would not be helped by others and as far as they were concerned would just let them die. Part or our problem is that we have had tings so easy that we have become soft and too much of a bleeding heart country. Eliminate the useless and our country would have plenty of funds to spend to help those that NEED it.

A lot of Americans have died in the last eight years thanks to George W. Bush. I have nothing to back this up, but I'd bet money that more Americans have died in Iraq, or as a result of Iraq, than died during all the attacks when a liberal pussy was president from 1992 to 2000.

Those deaths were Clinton's fault. Pussy liberal didn't kill Bin Laden when he had a chance...too wrapped up in blow job scandals to make good decisions.

Without Bush, American deaths would have been at least TENFOLD of what they were.

And Mr. Bush, a man of core decency and integrity, was right not to reply in kind when Democratic leaders called him a liar and a loser. The price of trying to change the tone in Washington was to be often pummeled by lesser men.

You're a fucking tart cart. Do you really think that was the only threat the CIA briefed him on? Do you really think that was the only "supposed" attack on the US? Get a fucking clue and stop watching Fahrenheit 9/11.

it doesn't matter how many threats there were when his response to them is apparently not only to ignore them but actually patronize the briefer for even wasting his time.

Lets also mention that it was 35 days between that briefing and the attack. You can't pick a color for the new curtains in the White House and get them put up in 35 days, much less put a plan in place to prevent terrorist attacks that have been in planning for 8 years and are going to happen at multiple places in the US, thousands of miles apart.

Face it, Clinton's administration shoulders a large part of the blame for Bin Laden being at large and able ot pull this off. Another share of the blame goes to the administration that had him trained to be a US tool when he was giving the USSR fits. To blame Bush for that just because he was the one who took over after Clinton ignored the problem is asinine.

the issue cannot be that he had no time to take action. he decided to ignore it outright and made that decision crystal clear. it was not because he had no time, but because he dismissed its importance.

Sure it can. Put it this way, if there was another massive Al Qaeda-sponsored terrorist strike next month in the US, would you consider it Obama's fault? Surely he's in office and knows that Al Qaeda will target US domestic targets.

i don't care if bush had no time to take action, the entire point is that he never even considered taking action. he immediately dismissed the significance of the briefing. How would things have been any different if the attacks had occurred a year later if he refused to even acknowledge the threat?

and yes, provided that Obama received a briefing on the attack you described and immediately responded with "alright, you've covered your ass"... i'd hold him accountable just the same.

I don't disagree that Clinton shares some of the blame. The fact of the matter is Bush displayed such apathy and incompetence in carrying out his duties, to the point where he literally and openly mocked those briefing him on dire security situations. This obvious disdain for the office and his duty to do his best to secure the American people within the constitution will be his legacy.

Of course Obama should and will be held to the same standard, but so far he has shown himself to be competent in the business of the presidency. Bush never was, and we are all paying the price for it now, even those of us who are blind to the incompetency.

Doesn't change the truth in his statement that too many Americans are in fact lazy. Or that a large portion of the current generation of kids and young adults have an entitlement type of attitude, like they're entitled to have things without the need to work hard for them.
Those deaths were Clinton's fault. Pussy liberal didn't kill Bin Laden when he had a chance...too wrapped up in blow job scandals to make good decisions.
You're pure comedy gold sometimes. But you're still a fuckwit. Assuming the 'blowjob scandal' and being too wrapped up in it was cause for any issues in the Clinton presidency, you have nobody but your fellow republicans to thank for pushing so hard and taking up so much time and money on something that didn't fucking matter. Who was it that trained Bin Laden (well fucking duh) and provided them weapons?
Do you really think that was the only threat the CIA briefed him on? Do you really think that was the only "supposed" attack on the US?
Do you really think many of the other "supposed attacks" were from people/organizations that had already attacked the US successfully? Do you really think the president getting too many threat warnings is a viable excuse to not do something about them? Tart cart indeed.
