I saw that last night. It's hilarious, you can hear the guy say, "Sorry," once or twice in the background while he leers at the camera.

Hmm, where was the knee jerk? Who chose the backdrop? My guess is the reporter/camera person.
Once again, I have no issue with the food chain, and I fully understand that animals are slaughtered for my own consumption, as they have probably been since humans started eating meat. Does the world have to be sparkling clean and fake for you to accept it?

You are making yourself look very foolish trying to turn this into something other than what it is. Colonoscopies are a fact of life, but no one in their right mind would pick that procedure as a backdrop for an interview. This isn't an animal rights issue, its an issue of how wacked she is. And your assumption is wrong. It was suggested to her that she change her position and she decined. She not only knew what was going on behind her, she wanted it. I find the whole thing funny.Boogahz wrote:Lalanae wrote:Gee, I never though of thatBoogahz wrote:Haven't seen the video yet, but I am aware that meat I consume comes from animals that used to be living.Seriously that's not the point. Re: Another WTF moment courtesy of Mrs Palin
As I understand it from watching the whole thing that was sort of the "where we happened to be when the camera caught up with her" position rather than something deliberately chosen by her up front, but she was asked a couple of times if she was sure she was ok with that as a backdrop and she said "its all good", so she didnt chose it per se, but she didnt object either. But she blows mooses brains out personally, and presumably has a hand in all the butchering stuff that happens afterwards, so I'm not surprised that she wasnt worried about it. She's just more prosaic than most is all, but as a politician she really should be aware that most people, including part of her base, isnt so comfortable about that kind of thing. Where's her pandering, dammit?
Yup, her voice isnt getting a whole lot better.

Re: Another WTF moment courtesy of Mrs Palin
This is just kind of befuddling. Of course it doesn't disqualify her from office or prove anything bad about her or anything like that, it's just... weird. Why would you choose to do an interview in that spot?
Re: Another WTF moment courtesy of Mrs Palin
Umm. The backdrop is a bloody massacre that makes a lot of people uncomfortable and some people nauseous. A politician's job is to gain the favor of people and as such, a good politician would realize that such a backdrop makes a lot of people uncomfortable and some people nauseous. Maybe you are not one of those people, but I am, and you can bet your ass if Obama gave an interview in front of a slaughterhouse I would fucking cringe, and would be a little outraged. Luckily for me, Obama is not an unequivocal nincompoop like Palin.Boogahz wrote:I haven't been trying to argue with you, but I have been trying to ask a question that you might have missed. I think he's beheading the turkeys (blade at the bottom of the funnel thingies I think) and draining the blood out of the bodies, hence the whole funnel and trough dealie. One site I saw said he was grinding up turkeys but that cant be right due to lack of machinery for one and they havent been plucked yet for two.

Re: Another WTF moment courtesy of Mrs Palin
Ummmm....this was an interview by a local station in fucking Alaska. It was not Meet the Press you friggin imbeciles. In case you don;t realize it, many people in rural locations kill and butcher their own meat...so this is not exactly an alarming or nauseating experience for them in the least. Palin happens to be a politician in Alaska, so a HUGE percentage of her constituency just happens to be people that are not strangers to butchering animals to eat....and those people were the target audience of the piece.xyun wrote: Umm. As a public figure, a politician for example, you should be aware of your surroundings at all times. You should realize that it's not a good idea to be interviewed in front of controversial establishments. A slaughterhouse for example.

Re: Another WTF moment courtesy of Mrs Palin
This is not entirely true. The ultra-conservative members here already tucked tail and ran away like cowards after realizing that they were an uber minority attempting and failing to defend the indefensible. They were outnumbered and outsmarted in every possible facet of political thought and discussion. Those that remain are actually conservative moderates. Winnow, Ashur, Boogs, Avestan, and even Kilmoll, who in this community may seem a bit too far to the right, are moderate conservatives relative to the nation at large and definitely relative to the ignorance of Midnyte or Funk. Unfortunately for these guys, they are the only targets left and the rest of us are way overstocked with ammunition and pretty fucking triggerhappy at this point.Tristinn wrote:It's pretty funny reading through this post and realizing that the conservative members here have been reduced to defending Sarah Palin giving interviews in front of turkeys being slaughtered. This site has a unique characteristic in that, because it was borne out of a non political game, a wide range of political views
In that respect, I think Obama will pleasantly surprise moderate conservatives by doing exactly that. There is no doubt that he will put forward a progressive agenda, but it will be much closer to the center than Bush, and it will be carried out competently. He will alienate most extremists be they left, right, Christian, Muslim, or what have you. Evidence of this is already gathering pretty rapidly. Here is just one example. Unfortunately, this will make the arguments on this forum regarding his policies considerably less heated and probably a little more intellectual. Of course, we will still need some complete buffoon to represent the galactic ignorance of the far right to truly entertain us and fuel our fire. That is why every morning when I wake up, I say a little prayer to God thanking Him for Sarah Palin. I've even converted from atheism to agnosticism in the hope that He hears my prayer and accepts my gratitude.

Re: Another WTF moment courtesy of Mrs Palin
Since this interview was probably broadcast to people who live in igloos in Alaska that butcher their own meat anyway, I'm not shocked (nor offended, dur) with the backdrop. Alaskan residents are probably as turned on by Palin's ease in being around turkey murder as they are by the look of her middle aged body in those expensive almost-VP outfits she was given. This shows how stupid and desperate the average youtube video is. Trying to equate this to animal cruelty or idiotic politics is far-fetched.

Re: Another WTF moment courtesy of Mrs Palin
it is idiotic politics to do an interview with that backdrop. it does not make it better that the people responsible for the decision assumed that it would not be possible or probable that people outside the locale would be able to see it.. in fact, that makes it even more idiotic. its also idiotic to think that because people should not be offended by it (or because you personally are not offended by it), that no one will be. as xyun said, if it wasnt controversial we wouldnt be fucking talking about it.

Seeing certain people scrambling over each other to defend this video really is pretty silly. It's this sort of willful self delusional that saw the right get pulverized in the election.
As for moderation, that's fine, although it doesn't always mean both opinions have equally valid weight. Hopefully this basic fact won't get lost in Obama's Presidency.
