Anyone else get into the beta?
I'm downloading it right now. Supposed to be quite a bit better than the first.

Sooooo
I got about 78% of the Beta downloaded and then I kept getting a corrupt hard drive message. Restored HD, got corrupt HD message again.
Formatted PS3 HD. Lots the demos on it and I suppose my GTA IV saves were lost as a result. Guess I'll try it out tomorrow if it downloads successfully over night.
Sony quality in action!

I'm a 360 loyalist, but I can honestly say just by checking out the commercials for this game i wanted to play it..
Timmah.

Re: Resistance 2
After getting a few more "your hard drive is corrupt messages" and the PS3 failing to format the HD using the full format instead of quick, it looks like I need a new HD for this awesome piece of quality machinery.
Sony sucks! 360 is well documented for being poorly manufactured but the PS3 isn't that great either. The thing crashed on me all the time in GTA IV and froze multiple times requiring hard reboots.
Hopefuly it's the HD otherwise it was a total waste to buy.
Fry's has a 160GB notebook HD on sale for 59.00 so I'll try that.
Replacing HD is easy:

Re: Resistance 2
Went and bought the 160 GB 2.5" drive from Fry's.
As expected, replacing the hard drive is extremely easy.
Caution:
I'm the king of stripping screws. I almost did it again with the blue screw that holds the drive in the bay. I did strip two of the four screws holding the drive in its tray. They make those screws out of mushy metal. Need adamantium screws!
I manage to get the screws out without using my Dremel to shave off the heads.
Minus the stripped screw thing, it should only take about 2-3 minutes for the entire process.
All of your settings are saved in flash ram in the PS3 so once you boot back up, it tells you to format the drive. That took about 15 seconds for the 160GB drive and I was up and running again.
First thing I'm doing is downloading the Resistance 2 beta so I'll know soon enough if it works/helped.
Edit:
the download went as smooth as that really fine grade sandpaper so that's pretty good. Looks like the HD was the problem for sure.

Re: Resistance 2
Played a little Resistance 2 competive and COOP
early thoughts:
COMPETITIVE
I got my ass kicked in multiplayer. The map I played was very well done though. Forresty, log cabin kinda vibe to it.
Can choose the primary and secondary weapon you want to use before entering or after you die.
The few weapons I tried seems fun and diverse.
player map is well done. Can see allies and enemies running all over the place. All of the building outlines are on the map as well. Helps with navigation for sure.
COOP
Had a blast with the first COOP mission I tried.
There were boss mobs the group had to focus on along with normal mobs. other players were helpful.
lots of help from your team mates. The res time is 30 seconds but a team mate can res you a lot faster and medic can res you almost instantly
the COOP mission I played lasted 30 minutes or more. Had several varied objectives. We actually failed at the end but that was after completing several objectives. I got 12K XP and level 2 which opened up "Bullseye" for me. Not sure what that is yet, maybe better targeting or something.
I need a to get a mic. lots of people using them.
there appears to be several kinds of COOP missions. should be fun.
CONTROLS
Controls work well. 360 controller would be better but things seemed to work OK.
R1 primary weapon fire
R2 secondary weapon fire (trigger)
L1 target zoom
L2 sprint (trigger)
right button = drop an ammo pack for yourself or ally
left button = throw grenade (maybe)
top button = change weapons
bottom button = jump
I think left trigger also toggles crouch if you don't hold it down.
GRAPHICS
Graphics are good. Not exceptional but good. Considering the multiplayer aspect of things I think the character models aren't too bad.
Game players very smooth. No hiccups that I noticed
Finding a game was easy as well. Very polished and easy to choose what game options you're looking for to narrow server choices.
OVERALL
Not bad at all. On the level of Halo 3 for sure. Anyone that likes COOP or Competitive Mutiplayer is going to like Resistance 2.

Re: Resistance 2
I downloaded the beta for this Saturday morning and played a co-op game for about 30 minutes. It seemed like a lot of fun and looks to be vastly superior to resistance 1 in graphics and controllability. I really like the idea of the "boss" type mobs in the co-op games and leveling to gain new skills.
I tried playing again last night but kept getting "failed matchingmaking" or something similar when trying to join a game. Hopefully this gets fixed soon.
