Better watch out Winnow or you'll get a call from the intranetz police.

Took them long enough to actually define it.

I don't think Winnow uses Comcast. If he did I'm sure the call would have came a long time ago!

Anyway, it would be nice if they had an easy way for customers to check where they are at since they are obviously keeping tabs and have that information.

I'm sure that after about a month of this they'll come up with some way for people to check their usage...at least they made it a decent sized cap..

I spotted this announcement this yesterday and was going to comment about it but the VV board was acting up so I couldn't submit a new thread.

Their cap is 250GB. I was reading the comments on Digg.com and a lot of the foreigners commented they they'd kill for 250GB/month. They're stuck with 60-100gb.

My most active month was ~200GB. 9 times out of 10 I'm under 100GB/month. I'm glad Comcast went with 250GB. That leaves some room to grow and also helps prevent other providers from setting a low bandwidth cap.

I'd expect something similar from Cox if they ever go with a cap.

Yeah, actually Kudos to comcast for choosing a reasonable bandwidth limit, for the current market. In a year, this might be too low for some users (doubtful, but with IPTV, who knows). At first glance, I thought this was way too low, but when I checked how much I download a month, it was less than 100GB on my highest months, and I would think I download more than the average comcast user.

What was the number that someone (Fairweather?) downloaded in a month that everyone said was unreasonable? I can't remember what thread it was in.

There's about 400GB (maybe only 300GB) of stuff on the newsgroups that I really want right now (IMDB's top 100 movies of all time), and I'm trying to decide if I should just grab it all right now, before the limit is imposed, or if that'd be a bad idea.

1.2TB I believe it was. You could grab half now and get the rest in two weeks when it becomes November if you didn't want to take the chance!

He was either at a terabyte or pretty close (in one month). I've averaged about 100-150GB a month for the past 3 months or so and haven't had any issues.

Well actually that's not true, the torrents I try to download have been getting slowed down to a crawl, so I started running peer guardian again. That takes care of the issue for the most part, but if I'm downloading heavily, every couple days or so my bandwidth goes down to almost nothing and I have to unplug my router and modem for a few minutes to reset..

Fairweather Pure wrote:A legal representitive from Comcast called me yesterday and informed me that I was in the top 1% of DLers in the US and would have to "drastically reduce" my Internet usage or face a 12 month ban from Comcast.

We've all heard the song and dance before. He would not tell me what my limit was, because I have no limit. However, if I exceeded that limit, I would be banned from Comcast. I took this circular logic around the track a couple of times before trying hanging up in sheer frustration. He said I was at 400G for last month. That is totally incorrect. I was at 1200G for last month and I already have 250 for this month.

I'm not sure where these people get thier numbers, or even if they are given any at all. I think I'm just a name on a list they had to call and issue the warning.

So, it looks like I'll be dropping Comcast for another ISP.

Anyone else ever gotten the warning?

is it closing in on 240 days old on the newsgroups? Giganews keeps that stuff a long time. If it was just posted, you'd have 9 months to spread it out.

I think the limit was 200 or 250GB? You'd have it all within two months.

I've hovered at 180-200ish since my warning. It is a constant concern when DLing.

That's about it.. I am gonna be pissed the first time I go over the limit and they try and fuck me.. It's hard to monitor your bandwidth usage for things like streaming video (which I do a fair amount of) or even stream audio (which I do with my Sirius). Sure, straight downloading is easy to keep track of, but that's only part of the equation.

I think I'll be switching to Direct TV and DSL soon, fuck comcast.

Yes, I'm sure you'll go off on them tough guy!

And they already said they'd provide a way for customers to check usage.

I'd go off on them if I could actually get my call answered by their customer service :D The last time I tried calling I was on hold in the queue for 50 minutes before I gave up and hung up the phone.

So after having Fios for two weeks, I'm so unsatisfied with it I cant even describe it. They gave me this crappy Verizon modem/router (with their name slapped on it) that just sucks something awful to configure, does not communicate with my linksys gaming adapter, and drops our connection constantly. I hard-wire directly into it to run a speedtest and the speedtest cant even finish without dropping. I called Verizon to tell them they need to either test their line or give me a new modem/router and they basically told me that "they cant guarantee their speeds" which wasn't even the issue.. Then that was followed with "well we cant guarantee the stability of our connection". So feeling like someone on a wireless ISP out in vermont, i was pissed and hung up. I'm going to call them back today and rip someone a new one because I couldn't even browse the net last night without dropping. If I dont get some answers, I'm switching back to cable..

Luckily, it hasn't been 30 days yet!

I was beyond disappoint(still am actually) with both the service and the support.. I deal with pissed off end users troubleshooting their connections on a daily basis so its not like i dont know what the hell im talking about.. I wish they would just run freakin ethernet to a modem or a box by them instead of coax to their crappy verizon modem/router. I'm calling them up today and ripping them a new one.. If I can't get to freaking CNN.com without my internet dropping, theres a huge f'ing problem there.

Thanks for the support though!
Timmah.
