Apparently a group called ACORN, Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, has been having some "fun" registering people to vote in Nevada. Evidently the entire Dallas Cowboys starting line up was registered by them to vote in Nevada.

He represented them in one lawsuit. He was never employed by them directly, though.

But he was in the same room with them, was he not?! Guilty by association as far as I'm concerned. OFF with his head.

Evidently ACORN is up to shenanigans in Ohio as well.
Of course in this case just like in Nevada it's "rogue operatives" that are the bad people not the whole structure.

John McCain is a noteworthy supporter of ACORN.
He was a keynote speaker at a one of their rallys in 2006.

Isn't all of this just a result of people desperate to fill up the quotas of people registered so that they get paid?

Re: ACORN signs up the Dallas Cowboys to vote in Nevada
As I've said elsewhere, ACORN is required by law to turn in all registration forms they collect, whether they're obviously fraudulent or not. They put significant effort into identifying incomplete or fraudulent forms and flag any suspicious forms before submitting them to the various voter registration boards. It is this action by ACORN that is how most of the fraudulent registrations are discovered. I said "most" because obviously when dealing with such large numbers of forms, some will slip past their own discovery efforts. There many thousands of people employed to canvas neighborhoods and engage in voter registration efforts. Obviously there are going to be some employees in a group that large that will not play by the rules, and ACORN is, by all accounts, very active in identifying wrongdoing and correcting or eliminating the behavior. Any employees found to be engaging in inappropriate or illegal methods are counciled and retrained when appropriate or outright terminated and reported to the authorities when their misbehavior is beyond simple "training issues."
This whole smear against ACORN is an orchestrated effort to raise voter fraud fears, even though only registration fraud has proven to be at all prevalent, and the incident rates of registration fraud is very low relative to the number of registration forms collected. It's a tactic popularized by Karl Rove to discredit opposing candidates in advance of elections, and to discredit results if the other side wins. All the people frothing at the mouth over this issue right now - most of whom have never heard of ACORN before, and couldn't begin to tell you what they do - are being played by the McCain campaign like a banjo, which is kind of pathetic.
I have posted elsewhere that canvasers are paid per registration form collected. This has been widely reported by reputable news outlets, not just wingnut sites. It is apparently inaccurate, though. ACORN vehemently denies that there is any kind of pay per form, and states that they pay a flat rate of roughly $8.00 / hour to people employed for registration drives.

I am not saying these stories are pro-McCain or Pro-Obama.miir wrote:John McCain is a noteworthy supporter of ACORN.

I just find it odd that they keep popping up.
