Ike

Post by Truant »

Been following the coverage pretty close as I have refugees (parents) staying with me atm.

Really just wanted to say two things. If any of you evacuees are in Dallas and need anything, PM and I'll do what I can.

Secondly, when you get back home, let us know how things are and if you need any help with anything.

We cannot get in touch with any of our family in Houston. Lines are still out.

Hope your family is ok Truant.

Cell towers are overloaded. Calls are really hard to get in and out...but text messages are still very reliable.

I have heard instances of people being able to get through on land lines but not cell phones. If you know someone who stayed in their home try using a land line if the cell phone fails. Also as its been said, texts have been working beautifully.

Hell, even Ohio got bitchslapped by Ike on the way out with 70mph winds taking down our power (mine has been out since mid-afternoon Sunday). I'm at work now and it has power and SWEET SWEET Air Conditioning.

They say it could be up to a week for some parts of Ohio because AEP sent most of the Ohio response crews south ahead of the storm...

Cell towers requrie power to work...and as we just found out, once the fuel runs out on their generators, BLAM bitch goes down. The only phones that will work there are going to be land lines.

What a fucked up storm. First time I have ever been in a hurricane....and in Ohio no less. 84 MPH winds ripping through and at last count 800,000 here in my direct area without power. Roofs missing all over, can't go more then 20 yards without finding a tree down. You would think we were actually on the coast.

Technically speaking you weren't "in a hurricane" if you lived in Ohio. What you were in was a major wind event. If you're ever in a hurricane you'll know it.

And yeah.. Go go land lines!

Plus, Ike was downgraded to a tropical storm before it left Texas.

Ohio was not in a hurricane.

Not to mention the size of the storm surge required to send a wall of water that far!

You people ok?

We've never had any "Ike's" up here in the north.

We got other problems, just not any tropical ones.

My parents just left to go back to Houston. Where they live has power, but that's because they live in the medical district which has very secure distribution.
