No one knows what war is like...

Meghan McCain wrote:...other than my family. Period.
Ouch. I'm sure she meant to say something else, like 'better than', but it's what she said that is going to get jumped on. I'm pretty sure military families are pretty high on the Rebublican "do not piss off" list, so I would expect to see the McCain spin machine in action shortly.

Just like the "My Muslim Faith" statement with Obama this is a non-issue. Move on.

Do you have any interest in the electoral process from start to finish, or do you simply care for the end result? It might be a non-issue for you and for me, but gaffes like this do have downstream effects. Sure, what she said was simply an easily dismissed mistake in the immediate timeframe , but over the course of the next couple months it turns into a weakness for McCain (in this case), and a line of attack for the opposition.

I don't know; maybe I should have majored in PoliSci since I find this all so interesting, but I thought I'd do something useful with my life instead. ;)

Gaffes are gaffes. Policy statements are another story.

While I'm certainly interested in the end result of the electoral process, I think that the day in day out overanalysis of anything anybody who knows of the candidate said and then taking snippets out of context to make people on both sides look like extremists is nothing but a distraction.

Do we really think that Obama is a Muslim? No? I didn't think so, thus gaffe - move on.

Do we REALLY think that the McCain policy is that his is the only family that knows what war is? No? I didn't think so, thus gaffe - move on.

yep move on, but the talking morons on TV will pretend the world is ending over these kinds of comments. They have to scream about something.
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. For the people who even bother to go through that, most assholes just accept what it is anyway and get on with it." - John Lennon

Exactly. Gaffes may be gaffes, but just telling people to 'move on' doesn't stop the talking heads- and some people do listen to the talking heads. Only in bizzaro world does *everyone* understand the truth behind every media feeding frenzy.

non-issue? there are many morons out there that believe it is an issue, and their vote holds as much weight as any other.
