Facebook: Dungeons & Dragons - Tiny Adventures

Post by Winnow »

I created a Facebook account to try this game out ("Winnow Papagiorgio" if you want to add me)

http://www.new.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1437292334

Going to try this out at work on Monday to see if it's a good time waster.

from Kutaku:
Dungeons & Dragons-mongers Wizards of the Coast have come up with an uber-casual version of the venerable role playing game that just might make it worthwhile signing up for privacy-siphoning office time-sink that is Facebook.

Dungeons & Dragons: Tiny Adventures is a Facebook app that lets you create a character, equip them with potions and weapons and them set them off on a (hey!) Tiny Adventure.

Your character will send you regular updates from your chosen quest, and because FB is a Social Networking site you can ask your friends to buff them up by throwing potions and other kit your way. Success in the various game events is determined by dice rolls modified by your initial choices.

The game server is down at the moment due to heavy demand, but should soon rise again, stronger and more powerful than ever.
Read about it here:

http://www.tor.com/index.php?option=com ... og&id=3972

Images of the game:

Those are the images from the article linked above.

Not a fan of social network sites but Facebook seems a lot better than MySpace.

Kinda neat that Facebook photo albums are Piclens enabled (now called CoolIris if you get the latest version). I like that it has Ajax searching as well.

Well this isn't really DnD. It's more watching what happens. You have a few choices (potions and equipment) but this is more for while at work to pass the time by checking the site every 5-10 minutes.

Pretty entertaining for what it is.

Ack, my first failed final encounter:

In the dark heart of the salt marsh, Winnow came upon its sinister secret. As she peeked through the reeds, she saw green steam rising from a large black cauldron. Three witches dressed in wispy black rags took turns stirring the concoction heating over glowing red coals. Occasionally one of the witches would ladle some of the green broth into a bowl and place it in a cage with a wild animal. Moments after the animal drank the brew, it cried out as its body twisted into that of a horrible monster. After the first monster burst from its cage and ran off, Winnow knew she had to put an end to this -- now!

Winnow made an Intelligence check with a difficulty of 14 . . . and rolled 11

Having no good plan, Winnow burst from the reeds. Hooting and hollering like a wild turkey, Winnow charged at the three witches. When the witches were through with Winnow, she felt like she had been plucked, basted, and roasted like a turkey too. Winnow escaped, but the witches continued to menace the citizens with their sinister broth.
INT? Shaman don't need no stinking INT! Bah!

I just sent you a heal Kwon!
As you may have noticed the server is down again. This time it is some sort of freak hardware failure issue - not related to anything anyone did - just some bad luck.

It will not be back up before 12 eastern 9pm pacific. It might come back sometime after that. I will try to post updates as I receive information myself.
-Gregory
Hope the servers being down didn't lose my heal.

eep
Due to events beyond our control, Dungeons & Dragons: Tiny Adventures will be down until 12 pm PST, Monday August 25. We expect that even when we are able to restore the application to working order that we will have lost some of our data in the process. While we are working hard to prevent this it is likely that we will have to roll back to our stored data from Friday, August 22nd. Thank you for your patience.

You can always create another Facebook acct with your MMO name. "Winnow Papagiorgio" is not my real name!

One thing I didn't like about Facebook was that when I accepted Kwon as a friend, it immediately listed his friends list suggesting I might also know them. I don't think your friends list should be pimped out to everyone like that.

There might be a setting for that. I haven't checked.

I need a heal! ...and more friends! Kwon's doing a great job buffing!

I have a message that says you've fallen unconscious almost constantly Kwon. I click heal but it only lets me do it sometimes.

Edit: have more friends now. quick DnD networking!

Friend buffing/healing is a huge help in this game.

It's cool that they formatted this game to work well on an iPhone/touch.

Seems a lot of these games try to get you to buy something eventually. The D&D game looks like a pretty straight forward free time waste.

I keep getting a Too Many Connections error and have to relog into the application. Is this common? Not a tough one to work around but annoying.

I created an account just to check out the game.

My encounter success rate is up to 73%!

So far, some of the better loot I've gotten can't be equipped by a Tiefling Warlock. I'm hoping the specialty items for Warlocks makes up for this.

I think I've added all VVers that have requested friends. Been buffing and healing! Kwon's the highest so far at level 5.

I dont' think they realized just how popular this would become. They are going to need to open the pipe up a bit and allow more folks in.
The game is almost unplayable with my work connection so I RDP to my home computer and play it there. It is a bit more stable.

Anyone on my friend lists is playing the D&D game. Helps a bunch with the added buffs and heals.

The servers are speedy right now. I went through and buff/healed everyone. Don't forget to buff/heal!

I don't understand why the shop sells items you can't use. There's no way to trade anything (unless I'm missing something) so the game kinda screws you over as there's also no way to tell if the item can be equipped. I've got 2000 Gold but I'm not sure what to buy.

I noticed the friends page is alphabetical so the lower end of the letters gets stuck on the second page of the friend's list. Scuba and Varia are on my second page. Next character AAAinnow! Any beta EQers remember when alpha looting was popular? hehe.

I have a Adamantine Greataxe that's like +3 Str +7 attack, but I still use the lifeleech dagger +10hp, +3 attack and my shield of bashing +3 attack +3 ac.

The server issues are ridiculous though. It's all I can do to get a new adventure kicked off, much less manage my inventory, buff friends regularly (I do when I can!) or even (god forbid) manage my adventure with potions etc.

P.S. I liked alpha looting
