Re: Madden 09 - EA Pisses me off
I havent played a sports title on the PC since "John Madden Football" in like 1989 or something. That was on the Commodore 64 and I don't think I would enjoy playing any sports game even on todays PCs. The lack of screen size, the lack of a responsive controller... well, it just feels wrong on the PC to me. Consoles are for Sports gaming because 2-4 people can just plugin and play in the living room. A single person in front of a PC is just, boring?

Re: Madden 09 - EA Pisses me off
As opposed to a single person playing an online game like EQ? The reason I like it on my computer is that I can get updated rosters. Now I understand that you can do the same thing with the consoles that are out there now but I really don't want to have to buy a console to play one game. Yes there are other games out there but I barely have enough time to play the games on my computer.Xanupox wrote:I havent played a sports title on the PC since "John Madden Football" in like 1989 or something. Also, due to my kids pretty much owning my large TV, the only other TV I have is by my computer and the screen is smaller than my monitor. So for me, having it on the computer was the best option. I got it last year for the PC and was very happy. Now this will most likely be the first year since the 90's (and my Sega) that I won't have Madden.

Looks like EA dropped the ball on this one. Damn shame.
I usually buy for the 360, but it would have been nice to have for PC.

Re: Madden 09 - EA Pisses me off
If I was EA, I would have dropped Madden for the PC a year or more earlier.
EA's about making money. They bought an exclusive and now can fine tune their lousy development and focus on consoles. Blame the NFL for giving EA an exclusive.
2009 360/PS3 version still doesn't have CPU vs CPU. I checked their message boards. Plenty of people bitch about that yet EA won't put it back in. They took away features during the move to next gen consoles. That's what you get with an exclusive. I'm surprised the game isn't just wire frame figures and midi music.

I think you'll start seeing more and more games missing the PC..
I realize the gamer crowd here is a bit more hardcore and tends to lean towards the PC, but you/we are not the majority. Consoles are becoming the entire media experience for home for a lot of people, and because of the wide variety of things you can do on this generation of consoles, more and more large companies are going to start having more and more vested interest in consoles doing as well as possible.

Re: Madden 09 - EA Pisses me off
I was highly anti-console until I picked up the 360. I still demand a PC for any kind of FPS/MMO, but other than that, I'd rather use the console. Being able to use the same monitor for my PC and 360 is a big boost, since I can just switch between them easily without going anywhere.
If I were a game developer, I wouldn't want anything to do with PC games. The hardware compatibility issues and support probably cost more than the PC sales would be on a cross-platform title. You can thank nvidia, ati, and microsoft for that.

yeah. dont associate the trend with the industry following the demands of gamers. They are following their own interests- it has nothing to do with what gamers prefer.

Look at the number of consoles (all of them total) that have been sold the past two years. Do you think anywhere near that many people have built/bought a computer for gaming in that time period (hell, even in the past 4 or 5 years)? There are a ton of consoles being sold, people like the other media shit that they can do along with gaming on them, and for a lot of people a 360/PS3 allows them to reduce the number of electronic devices they have to keep around.
Re: Madden 09 - EA Pisses me off
It was even made for the PS2. Ohh well.
I was pretty much a 2K football fan but I think I'm going to finally pick this up for my 360.
Still can't play good MMO's or get good opponents playing Go w/out a PC. And Diablo 3 looks like it's going to be a lot of fun as well. There's definitely a place for PC gaming that won't go away.

The proliferation of hacked and stolen console games does not hold a candle to the ease and availablity of pirated PC games. I believe that was his point.

You don't need to mod a PC to play pirated games. I have always been a PC pirate, but my consoles are not hacked... I've spent tons on games for them.

To assume that not many people have their consoles hacked is really ignorant and naive.
I can get hacked games for my consoles just as easy as I can get hacked games for my PC.

That's awesome, but do you actually think the number of console pirates in any way resembles the number of PC pirates? that's the point being disputed.

My point was that piracy on consoles is common.
Using piracy as an excuse for not developing/releasing titles on PC is daft.

Re: Madden 09 - EA Pisses me off
I don't know of anyone on this board that has a hacked 360 besides me over the past two+ years. I'm pretty sure a bunch of people on the board have pirated PC multiple games though. I don't know anyone at all on this board with a hacked PS3.
Old Xbox and PS2s, Wii (but who cares about the Wii) are easy hacks but still more of a pain than downloading a Pirated PC game.

You're an idiot m::r if you think the number of console hacks is equal or greater than PC hacks. I don't know of a single person with a hacked 360. I know tons with illegally downloaded games for the PC.
I also never said consoles can't be modified. I'm just saying it's such a small percentage, most people don't bother. If it was so simple to hack and download, more people would be doing it but they kinda like playing games online so they don't. Microsoft can detect if you modified your console and will ban you.

Re: Madden 09 - EA Pisses me off
I've bought about 6 PC games in the last year and pirated 2 or 3. I've bought 25 360 games in 8 months and about 20 XBoxLive games.
I bought 1 CD this year (NIN download), which is the first I have bought since around 2000, and have downloaded roughly 300Gigs worth in 3 months. Meanwhile, I have purchased almost every single Rock Band and Guitar Hero download through XboxLive.
I know lots of people, of which the majority are gamers and have a lifetime of computer experiance. I do not know a single person that has hacked a console, or has ever even considered it an option. Winnow is the only person I have ever heard of that has done it, and last I knew he can't even play online.
Consoles are making a shitload more money off of me than anything PC.

Funny that you make a comment about playing games online... you can't play pirated PC games online either.

Nearly everyone I know that owns a Wii has it hacked.

Re: Madden 09 - EA Pisses me off
It is a pretty lame excuse to stop making PC versions cause of piracy. Miir is most likely right about people not realizing how common hacked/modded systems are. Granted, it would not be as large as the number of people who pirate PC games, but they do have a strong base, and it is very easy to both mod the systems, and get games (the games are as easy to get as PC games, truthfully). Like Miir said, there are a large number of people who mod their wii's, and you would see a greater number of Xbox360/ps3's modded if they online service didn't ban you for life if you get caught (it is my understanding that nintendo does nothing but try and close the holes in their next patches, similar to Apple and jailbroke iphone/itouchs).
I think that they probably did not see enough profit in the PC version, and rather than say such, they blamed it on piracy. Anyway, who the hell would want to play Madden on a PC????

Re: Madden 09 - EA Pisses me off
Wii isn't a real console. It's like a beginner console for kids or people with bad eyesight that can't appreciate HD content.
It's easy to download 360 images but it's still hard enough to hack a 360 that the percentage of people downloading the 7.05GB images is small compared to PC pirates. You can also play hacked PC games online easier than 360 games.
Give me some stats on PS3 pirated games. Can't wait for your reply!

I'm sure they would see a greater number for the PS3 and 360, but because they ban people for that, it's not as common, hence my point. People want to play it safe so they purchase legit copies. If/when Nintendo starts banning people for modifying their Wiis, you can expect those download numbers to go down too.

Wait months and months till they actually release patches for that. Sorry, I don't actually know how to hook the PS2 to the internet, or how any of that works, but it took them forever to update the rosters when I got madden 2 years ago.Bubba Grizz wrote:So what I want to know is, what do I need to do to it so that I can get online updates to get my players on the correct teams and such.

Re: Madden 09 - EA Pisses me off
Ok. So I happen to be one of those people who actually do the Coke Rewards thing. I was entering in my codes and found that I had a Sprite cap (blue) and entered that code in. As a result it gave the chance to play a bonus game that would cost me 0 points off my total so I thought sure why not. I enter the code and found that I was an instant winner of a $100 prepaid visa card. Yay me.
Having won that I decided to spend it on Madden 09 for the PS2. I broke out the old console and dusted it off. I had to remove the Madden 05 that was in there and actually find the cords that went with it. I connected it to my large tube screen tv. (don't have a flat panel yet and can't justify buying one just yet) I load up the game and discover that the graphics look like complete shit. At least compared to what it looked like in my wide screen monitor from the year before. This was most disheartening but I hoped that the new features might make it worth the effort. Though I haven't explored them all I am finding that I am happy that the money I paid for it was basically free money. Kind of like the feeling you get when going to a bad movie but only paying matinee prices. I'll still play it but I won't be on it as often as I normally would at this time of the year. I won't waste my time getting the network pack to update the rosters now at least.

When does EA's exclusive NFL contract run out?
They could care less about the quality of the game as long as it sells. No competition = crappy game
