Impulse struck again today - Samsung LN40A650A1FXL

Post by Fash »

I got up this afternoon and went to Guitar Center to look at amps. I definitely want the Fender G-DEC 30, but I just wasn't feeling it for some reason. I went over to Best Buy and spent probably 45 minutes looking at laptops. I was considering buying one of them for a while, and then I walked over by the HDTV's.

Grats! Your link is to the 40" version of the 46" Samsung I picked up in May.

About 7 posts down I start discussing it and then I go apeshit over how good it is later in the thread after a lengthy bitchfest over Amazon.com. (ended up getting it at Fry's locally)

I did some serious research on a bunch of LCDs and plasmas before buying it and am still amazed by it.

I'm using it as my primary PC monitor and can't seem to go back to my 24" LCDs except as secondary monitors.

Grats Fash! Glad someone else got one of the 650 series Samsungs! Any HD source is jaw dropping as is using it as a PC monitor. The bonus is that it has a fairly good standard definition processor (Digital Natural Image Engine) on it as well. Be sure to play around with the three main view modes. All three of the built in modes make a difference depending on the source. (PS3/Blu Ray, PC, HDTV, etc) AoC, CoH/V, etc look great on it.

Edit: is the spec on Samsung's site correct? My 46" has a 4th HDMI port on the side panel. I thought the 40" had that as well although it only lists 3 on that web page.

Edit 2: nm, it shows on the full spec:

We should start a new discussion about it in Audio if you're interested, but the GDEC is very meh imo. There's much better (digital) options for the same amount of money.

I hope you purchased the extended warranty so you can break it in 23 months and get something new for free.

That would be the smart thing to do.

Of the four HDTVs I have, the original front projector is the only one I had an issue with and that was taken care of by the manufacturer's warranty. Sanyo paid to overnight it to their service repair center and overnighted it back to me. Took three days total.

For the most part, I'm too lazy to even send in a rebate form so doubt I'd do much with a store bought warranty.

Amazing how far LCDs have come. This thread from 2005 still cracks me up at the prices quoted for a 24" LCD back then:
