CoV/H

Post by Winnow »

This game is underrated IMO.

Forum should be reopened!

New game cards are being offered for CoH/V, Tabula Rasa and ExTeel which include the entire game:

http://www.plaync.com/us/gamecard/

I really like the way CoH/V leveled/skilled characters. I wish more games would use the same strategy. Character customization was also the best.

I checked their website and Issue 12 is the latest. Seems like a pretty well maintained game.

You can go back throug hall the Issues (game updates) here:

I had toyed with reactivating the game to play with some co-workers, but I remember how much the movement/camera controls differed from other games. It used to screw me up when I jumped back and forth from that one.

I really liked COH and COV when they were released.
Reactivated a few times but it just doesn't hold my interest for very long.

The playerbase in COH is one of the best out of all the MMOs I've played.
Extremely helpful and friendly.

The problem with CoH/CoV for me is that I don't feel they're worth the monthly fee to play. It's the same problem with NCSoft's entire lineup.

They charge full price for what amounts for Korean Generic MMOG-quality games.

Give me an all access to NCSoft for 10$ a month and you may have yourself a subscriber.

Cryptic Studios is working on Champions Online which is scheduled to come out in 2009:

http://www.champions-online.com/

Not sure about it yet. Looking at the screenshots, it seems to be in settings that don't appeal to me. (jungle, lava, etc)

It doesn't have the look of a heroes type game to me. It has a cell shading look to it but the colors seem off. Too dark. I prefer the city surroundings and brighter colors of CoH/V.

No wonder Marvel canceled this project. If this is how Marvel Online would have looked, it would have paled in comparison to what I've seen of DC Universe so far.

The look may not appeal to me but I'll have to wait and see on the gameplay.
The First True Action MMORPG

* Hi-Octane Excitement: Champions Online delivers furious, fast-paced encounters previously reserved for action and fighting games. No more boring auto attacks and lengthy recharge times. Champions Online combat is instantaneous — and electrifying!

* Brains required: Every enemy and super-powered threat in Champions Online has its own unique abilities and combat specialties. Use your head — or wind up dead!

* Bring friends, make friends: The Champions Online universe will be jam-packed with thousands of heroes, facing thousands of threats. Join up with other heroes, create your own superteam, and prepare to take on the ultimate threats!

Be the Hero You Want To Be

* Total customization, at your fingertips: Choose from hundreds of different costume pieces, colors and body types to create your character's one-of-a-kind costume and look. There are billions of possible combinations, and in a universe brimming with the fantastic and the unforgettable, you can still be completely unique!

* Your powers, on your terms: There are a multitude of astonishing powers to choose from in Champions Online, and its flexible character creation system gives you total control over your hero's abilities. You can even pick the appearance of your powers. Do you want purple force fields? Green fire blasts? Jet black claws? In Champions Online, you decide!

* Keep your enemies close: Every hero must have an archenemy. In Champions Online, you design your character's supreme adversary, choosing a name, powers and costume for a superpowered foe to bedevil your hero throughout his or her career.

* Bigger and better: Vanquish evil, and your successes will be rewarded with costume pieces to enhance your powers and abilities. Then customize the appearance of those rewards to your vision of your hero's look and abilities!

Vast Universe

* Endless exploration: The battle against evil in Champions Online rages across the world into outer space and alternate dimensions. No other MMOG offers players the chance to explore such diverse realms — from the shining skyscrapers of Millennium City and the frozen wastes of Canada to the interstellar gladiatorial arena on the moon, the hidden underwater city of Lemuria and the foul mystical dimension known as Qliphotic.

* Evil most foul: Battle supervillains, aliens, giant monsters and secret, sinister organizations. Doctor Destroyer is launching new plans to conquer the world. VIPER lurks in the shadows, seeking chances to strike at humanity. The ancient Lemurians are plotting a return to power. And Mechanon won't stop until it has wiped all organic life from the planet. Can you stop these heinous threats to humanity?

* Make your mark: The story of Champions Online is constantly changing, continually evolving. Villains are defeated. Heroes rise and fall. Cities transform. Your actions may decide the future!

They have fucked around so much with abilities that unless you're currently playing it's impossible to keep yourself up-to-date with what is considered a good build. :(

Ah yes, forgot how much fun this game can be.

I went to Best Buy to pick up one of the new 19.99 CoH/V Game Cards but they weren't going to be in for a few more days according to the BB sales guy.

Turns out, even though I own CoV, I could still create a 14 day CoH/V trial account so I downloaded the client while at work and it was ready to go when I got home. (~2.5 GB, no patching that I noticed after the main download)

You need to have or create an NCSoft master account, which I have two of I guess. One has CoV and Guild Wars on it and this other one I used had three beta accounts on it. CoH Beta, Tabula Rasa and something else.

Who knows, I may be tired of it in 14 days anyway. The trial has a little "buy full game" window (you'll see in a screenshot) but otherwise is fully functional.

Went for an Ice/Energy Manipulation Blaster character for starters. Liking the Long range blasting combined with nice stun.

The Mass Ejection name is leftover from a Fire/Fire character I quickly deleted (Coronal Mass Ejection from the Sun). I kept a little bit of the lore in the origins story though! Gave her those huge cyber boots to not break the "tech" origin background. :!:

This game is so well put together. It'd be nice for them to take the system and apply it to another genre.
