20GB 360 fire sale.. 60GB HDD coming

Post by Animalor »

Well Ms finally fessed up last night and announced that the 20GB 360 was getting a new pricepoint of 299$. They are phasing out the 20 GB hdd/package and a new 60GB HDD/60GB pro version will be taking the reins at 349$ in August.

I'm trying to decide is a 60GB HDD for 100$ is a worthwhile option. Still seems damned pricey compared to an off the shelf 2.5 drive. I also haven't really filled the 20 either (Hovering at 8.5 since I bought Psychonauts on Originals...)

Unless mandatory installs become the norm on the 360 too, I probably won't bother with the 60GB hdd..

I have the 120GB HDD version and my drive is over half full. Granted I could free a lot of that space up if I wanted, but still :)

Sounds like it's time to finally pick one up!

Be honest with me... Am I going to miss the HD space? Since I'm mostly going to have it just for save games and demos that I won't keep forever?

I haven't filled mine, but I also stopped ripping songs to it a while back :P

I also don't keep demo versions of games on the drive for long.

I have a 120 Elite and I think I have 100G free. I DL a shitload of stuff. I could probably clean 10G off right now.

I stream all my media from my PC so no music or vids on the machine. I also delete demos from the thing once I'm done.
Microsoft reserves 7GB off the drive for system use and patches so you get 13GB usable to you

Wait to see what Microsoft will announce tomorrow morning before buying imo.

I would say the HD space is worth it if you are going to be downloading game demos/videos. They take up space fast and I haven't deleted anything pretty much since day 1. That and game map packs/etc use up space faster than you'd probably think.

I guess it really depends on the person.

Why bother putting a larger drive in the Xbox when you can buy an external drive and use the USB to connect? If I want to watch movies on it I can either run them from my PC via the network or I can put them on my 8 GB thumb drive. You could get a hell of a lot more drive space by buying an external backup and plugging it in when you need it.

Because you can't use a HD that is bigger than what the 360 has, from what I understand of how it works... And none of the 70 gigs I am using is for media that I'd normally have on my PC. It's from game trailers/demos/arcade games/game expansions. I wouldn't want most of that to be on a HD that isn't always attached.

Plus I don't think there will be much of a price difference between the upgrade to the Elite versus buying a external HDD. So imo you might as well keep it all MS parts that they provide a full warranty for.
