Oh seriously fuck off with the drama and hyperbole. No one is asking anyone to be banned. There is an ignore feature here for a reason, but it can't be used on some people. Several forums, not just Cars have mods for no good reason, and those people cannot be ignored as a result. Just clean up the mod situation, and people can use the ignore function as they see fit. As far as I'm concerned, there's no real reason for there to be a moderator on any of the forums here.

I just checked the moderator logs and 38 of the last 50 actions were mine. I use my mod rights to keep the comic post threads up to date when new comics are added, etc. In this sense, the ability to keep things in order is very useful.

Of the other 12 mod actions over the past year notby me, there are a couple new account spam bans, couple thread split/merges, and a couple deleted posts (which anyone can do if your post is the last in the thread with no one having posted after you)

Hate to break it to you, but I have about 35 different moderator actions in the VG forum. Merging threads, splitting threads, and dropping posts into the correct subforums.

Frankly it's annoying to me when I go to some of the other forums and this type of simple 'organizational moderation' isn't occurring. If people don't want to moderate that's fine, but let someone who's willing to do that shit do it.

Yeah, I can't tell what I'm seeing on the moderator logs. Mostly Comic but with some others thrown in from other forums. Didn't mean to shortchange your moderating.

Main point of this is that it's lame to use ignore. Beyond controlling NWS images a little tighter, there's no reason to ignore peeps. The use of spoiler tags to hide images (lots of images like the motivational post had for example) helps to keep the scrolling to a minimum after you've seen the images and just want to browse the thread without all the images zooming by.

Cart should never have gotten more than a temp ban of a week or so. Weak sauce.

The whining about embedded Youtube videos is lame as well.

This thread is as good as any to share some things I've been thinking about lately.

Many of us have known each other for a good long while. I'm thinking about 7-9 years, depending on when we met in EQ. I don't know about you all, but my life is completely different than it was back then. I'm making 3 times more than I did, nabbed a wife, bought a house, had a child ( have another due in October), and have advanced in all sorts of other areas of life since the time this particualr board has started.

However, here on this board, I've tried to remain the same foul mouthed, rude person I was when we first started back in the IGN days. So, while everything else in life has matured and gone forward, at times I feel like my persona on this board just hasn't gone anywhere. It's a weird type of thing to think about.

I post on other boards where the attitude nothing but respect and such. Don't get me wrong, being so different than every other board out there was one of the main reasons I liked posting here. However, that same attitude may very well be the downfall of this board in the long run. At one time, I felt "if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen". Now, I have so much more going on in my life, I think "if it gets too hot, why bother staying in the kitchen?".

I think we all can agree that we've lost a great deal of regular posters on this board. I for one, wouldn't like to see anyone else leave. We will not be getting any new members, so what we have is all we've got. Sometimes when I read threads and it's just random name calling, like Nick is a drunk Irishman or Mydnight trolling the Current events and everyone responding with the usual, resulting in a whirlwind of insults, I take a step back and think "I'm 33 years old. Why do I come here?".

I'm not the kid I was all those years ago and it's hard to keep the act up here. Am I the only one who feels this way?

The board does suffer from a lack of new people because there's really no reason for new people to come here. VV is just a smaller version of any other board that tries to cover all topics.

It's strength is that you get to know the "online" personalities of its posters. There is enough diversity here that you'll learn something new from time to time and also get points of view from various nationalities.

If VV becomes a general info board with no character, it's going to fade faster than it has. People seem to want to weed out posters for this and that. Banning Cart was lame. Ignoring people on a flame board is weak and a sign that you have no ability to scan posts and move on without getting your panties in a bunch. VeeshanVault's fault is it's double standards. You can pull up example after example of things said by mods or other posters that Cart was banned for although Cart was more humorous when he said them. When the "flame" part of the Flamevault started to fade, so did the board.

I was probably as old as the some of the people that think they're too old for this shit back when the board was created.

VeeshanVault will remain interesting as long as there's interesting topics and news mixed in with non generic, lively discussion about those topics.

Cart shouldn't be banned.

I'll agree with Fairweather and Winnow's most recent posts as well as Spang's.

When starting posting here back on EQVault, I flamed the shit out of all three of these guys.

The thing that's disappointing to me is that though I may have an extreme difference of opinion with someone on a topic, and flame the shit out of them, there's really nothing meant by it. I don't have the time to invest any real anger into anything here. The big annoyance/problem here is that there's just zero consideration of late for your fellow posters. Not everyone wants to see a spoiler or have someone shit all over their on-topic phone discussion (sorry) or have to worry about NWS content on a thread in a forum where neither the post, the thread or the forum is labeled NWS. I get flaming each other, I just don't get being totally inconsiderate about shit. I also don't get when people jibe you about something being a total fucking asshole about it and going off the deep end. If someone gave me shit about something like that, I'd go back and edit the fucking post AND APOLOGIZE. I've DONE IT BEFORE. IT DIDN'T KILL ME.

There's a lot of value in knowing each other's opinions and posting habits for the last however many years. I read a lot of other forums, but I know what I'm getting here from each of you and there's a lot of value in that for me. There's a good chance if some of you like a movie, music or video game, I'm also going to like it. Conversely, if some of you like something, there's a good chance I won't (sorry Mid WWE is just a bit below my tolerance for vapid). Anyway... I'm cool with the flaming, I'm just not cool with the total lack of consideration shown.

I agree. Problem is there's very little of that anymore. I'll admit that I'm biased by the fact that I don't give a shit about computers, technology, video games, comic books or movies, so that wipes out a large chunk of the content of VV for me. I generally don't even read those threads. I do care about sports, current events, music, and life in general. I used to feel this way back in the day, where people would occasionally come onto a thread and make a retarded post, and the thread would continue on with maybe a minor digression. Nowadays, the entire thread is the digression. As soon as the retarded posts begin, the whole thread ends. It's not a matter of just skipping by the retarded posts because the retarded posts actively spell the end of any content that would be worth reading anyway.

I know that people come and go and the composition of the board is much different than it used to be, but most of the people who I used to rely on for originality, perspective and content are no longer here much if at all: Arborealus, Voronwe, Adex, Krimson, Aaeeamdar, others. Those who remain-- like Boogahz and Noel-- no longer engage in subjects at the depth that they did in the past.

The 'You laugh you lose' thread had some things posted to it that while not overtly pornographic were highly questionable for safeness in a reasonable person's work environment.

People were pissed off.

Funkmasterr said they were all stupid because if they worked in an environment like that they should get new jobs.

I've been a lurker on this board for years, and although I post occasionally, I know I'm not a very active member when it comes to raising my post count. I do however read these boards 5+ times a day.

I have to say that either I'm the most zen, tolerant person out there, or I've just learned to actually use my brain and choose what I do and do not give credit too. Funk's postings I agree can be a bit emotional and may not have the "intellectual" level that some of you crave, however I have to ask, how hard is it to just skip past them? The same goes for everyone else that people like to bitch about... Mid, Nick, Aslanna etc come to mind.

It seems to me for a board that was built around tolerance and the ability to hate on others that there are more and more people that want people banned, rules changed, moderators removed etc. If people would just remember that YOU (the reader) have the ability to choose who and what you read/comprehend/respond to than we wouldn't have these problems. I love this board; morons, trolls, assholes, intellectuals, holier than thou people, I hate God people, etc etc. The last thing I would want to see is any of them censored or banned.

I know your point in this was that you don't have the option to actually click the ignore function for Funk, but making a post in the general forums regarding this was (in my opinion) just being a whiney baby. You don't like the show on TV, change the channel... you don't like the radio DJ, change the channel... you don't like Funk, don't read his posts. It's pretty clear who posts what as in this wonderful english language, we read left to right, top to bottom and the very first thing in any post is the name of the poster. Easy enough.

Even in my laid back, buddha nature, there are plenty of people on this board that I think are complete wastes of internet space, but I would never ask for someone to be singled out because of my opinion (or the majority opinion) because that is NOT what this board is about. There's a shrinking group of people here that all contribute in some way, whether you view their posts as contributions or not is your opinion. There are others like me that think that everyone, in everyway deserve to post their feelings, opinions etc. You don't like someone, ignore them... can't ignore them, skip their posts.
