Mornington Crescent

Post by Noysyrump »

So to keep the game simple, I wish to state upfront that the Tudor ruleset will not be allowed, as invariably it always leads to squabbling over whether or not certain moves, namely the sideways shunt, should even be allowed.

So here is our Board

I shall sally forth with the tried and trued Harrington start with Farringdon.

Any takers?

Oh how cute, the children's version of the game! It's almost pointless to play with such a tiny board, but what the hell...

Codfrey's variation? I'll do a second tier Lyttleton-gambit and say Euston Square.

Oh, a veteran. I didn't expect such competition, However, It would be bad form to play another move without at least two more players. I'll wait until tomarow to block that elementary move.

Well, I figured - since you'd posted a map that's on a preschool level - that you were an amateur. I didn't want to scare you off the board right away...

It would've been too rough to play a Trellis shunt after your Farringdon opening, that's grandmaster level play and you would've been done in 4-5 moves unless you'd demistriled to Goldhawk Road - and even that would've left you keebled.

...although I suppose you could've done one of those crazy icelandic stunts that no proper player would do, setting me up for a Dollis Hill loop.

Well beeing an American, A good Keebling is usually already stacked against me. And I hadn't noticed until you pointed it out, the fault with Goldhawk road, so I thank you for that bit of advice. It's good to play with the sporting type.

Although your map is far superior, perhaps you dont see how simple it would be to pull The old stand by Knights Cross double shank. Even though that move would not get me any closer to winning, It definatly messes the works for the competition.

Back to our game, Surely you didnt see Liechester Square coming.

I say good fellows, would somebody care to explain the rules of this smashing game?

Well hello gents,
I'm up for a good match.

I'll begin with the old stand-by defensive stack at South Kensington.

http://kevan.org/morningtonia for the Encyclopaedia Morningtonia.

I can also reference you to an earlier thread on the board that I started, I believe it was called 'Anyone for a game of Mornington Crescent, then?' or something to that effect.

Welcoming Truant to the game and applauding his fine follow up to that polish semistrile from Noysy, South Kensington indeed! - awaiting at least one more player for a move, then.
