On the Rain-Slicked Precipice of Darkness, Episode One
Anyone going to download the Penny Arcade adventure game, "On the Rain-Slicked Precipice of Darkness: Episode One?" It's out today for PC and XBox Live. I'm going to grab it on my 360 tonight; I've been looking forward to it since it was announced. I'm a fan of PA, so I expect that I will enjoy it.
Re: On the Rain-Slicked Precipice of Darkness, Episode One
I'll be checking it out. I'm a fan of PA but I'd have Ron Gilbert's baby.

Plan to check it out. I really enjoy PA's humor, and especially the name of the game.

I was impressed with what I saw of the demo. I'll probably DL the full version eventually. Any word on overall length of the full version?
Re: On the Rain-Slicked Precipice of Darkness, Episode One
I put in about 30 minutes last night, and it's what I expected. Good writing, excellent transition of Gabe's artistic style. I had 3 LOL moments in that time, which is more than I had in an entire episode of Sam & Max.
Oh, from what I hear it's about 6 hours in length.

Yeah, I chuckled a few times playing the demo. I'll probbaly go ahead and DL this then. Six hours seems like a good enough length to me. Besides, I'm really digging on the graphic style and simple RPG game play. The sound is great too.

Re: On the Rain-Slicked Precipice of Darkness, Episode One
I was going to get this on XBLA last night but then I started looking at pricing for points and realised that I would have to drop 25$ for what you guys are paying 20$. Given that my money is worth more than the US$ this morning, I'm not willing to pay an extra 17% to line MS's pockets cause they're too lazy to do a review of market values every 6 months or even yearly.

I thought the demo was pretty good, but I don't know that it was $20 good.

Yeah, 20$ is pretty steep. I guess I didn't know the actual price. I'll have to think about it for a couple of weeks, then impulse buy it late at night. I predict my own future!Sabek wrote:I thought the demo was pretty good, but I don't know that it was $20 good.

There were a whole lot of people here on VV that were willing to fork over 60 dollars for CoD 4 which was about an hour and a half long...
Don't think this game is my style though.

I played the 360 version for about an hour before returning it. The PC version rocks...you can lead to peak around corners! lolFunkmasterr wrote:I know... Nice exaggeration. Hour and a half long indeed... And that doesn't even include online play. So try a new example please!

I got the full version, and I really enjoy it. The combat system is pretty neat so far, but I'm not that far into the game yet.
I go way back with Gabe and Tycho though, so this was a no-brainer for me to pick up. (We're like this *crosses fingers*)

Re: On the Rain-Slicked Precipice of Darkness, Episode One
Been playing this for the 360, great fun. It's a simple game, but it definitely has an old school feel to it which I love, and it's chock-full of PA humour, which I also love. The enemies and their attacks are fucking hilarious. The hobo that pulls out a sign that says "Will do damage for food" and hits the party for AE damage is brilliant, as is the mimes with their imaginary attacks. Good thing you get invisible boxes to trap them in!
Re: On the Rain-Slicked Precipice of Darkness, Episode One
Really enjoying this game. I'm a big fan of the old graphic adventure games, and this feels like a continuation in that long forgotten vein.

I'm about 30 minutes into it and really enjoying the game so far. Lots of character. I'm glad I bought it.
Re: On the Rain-Slicked Precipice of Darkness, Episode One
Finished this the other ay. I liked it quite a bit. Enjoyable combat (although my 3+year old mac laptop lagged a bit making it hard to hit the higher level specials) with a fun story. Nothing quite like bum-meat stew to warm your belly, hilarious.

Re: On the Rain-Slicked Precipice of Darkness, Episode One
Picked up episode 1+2 for a total of $3, on special until 3 July.
Episode 3 is also $5, having played #1 I might get it.
1 seems to have the best balance of combat I've seen in this kind game, there was actually a reason to use buff/debuff pots in your inventory all the time instead of most games where I "save them for a rainy day that never comes".
Also as some others said, funny as heck

Re: On the Rain-Slicked Precipice of Darkness, Episode One
I never beat the first or second episodes, but I watched my wife play through them! She was interested in playing a jrpg and I suggested the penny arcade games because they were the closest representation of old school jrpgs that I had handy. She played the second one first, then finished the first one afterward. (She started playing while I was at work and started the wrong one) She enjoyed them both. I told her about the 3rd episode and she is just too busy with other hobbies and things right now to play. I'll keep an eye out for an eventual sale and grab it for her.
