Problem - Display brightness fluctuating
I have this odd (at least to me) issue where the brightness of my display will darken randomly. This most often happens while playing EQ2 and Conan. I end up having to manualy drag the gamma up within the game, only to have it happen again later (maybe an hour or so). Anyone else have this happen?
Display: Samsung 24" LCD
Graphics: EVGA 9800GTX
Connection: DVI -> HDMI
Motherboard: EVGA 790i Ultra
CPU: Intel C2D 8400e
OS: Vista x64
Thanks!

One of my LCD's has done this as well, but only while playing dvds. I noticed it on both of the PC's it had been hooked up on. No clue if games would cause it as well, as it is my second comp.

This also happens without anything happening at all--just the desktop. It will just "dim" a few levels for no apparent reason. Almost like a laptop on battery.....have not checked power settings yet, but since I am actively doing something, I can't see it being a low-activity/no activity mode...

It seems power oriented in some way.
Does it dim like clockwork, like every 12 minutes or something? Does it dim when your air conditioner kicks on or anything else in the background like microwave or something? How's the outlet?

Power is good, as far as I can tell. I will try to time frequency. However, I cannot recall turning anything else on, etc when it happens.
thanks!

Oh, also, there is a 'tinted' vertical bar that runs down the right side of my LCD...it is about 2" wide and gets darker towards the edge. It only shows up when I have desktop showing. No clue what this shit is all about..... ???

You mean where all those widgets and shit that I removed are supposed to be?
Hmm, I hope you are right. I'd rather feel slightly retarded than have to RMA a monitor.
Obviously, I am a vista leet.

And to think I had spent a few years on a help desk early on in my career....Boogahz wrote:I really hope it isn't the sidebar, lol
Yeah, that was the hotbar. ><

I was so intent on figuring out wtf was going on with my gamma fluctuation, that I figured everything was going to hell..
Still though, The fucker lightens and darkens at will, whether in a game, desktop or video.
I noticed in EQ2 though, if I was facing a dark background, the gamma would adjust darker. If I faced a brighter background, it would lighten. I am guessing there is some sort of video card setting to do this? I don't likey!

My TV has an auto black setting which automatically adjusts the contrast on the fly. It actually works great for TV but I wouldn't want that for games or set on my video card.Canelek wrote:

Maybe search for auto black or the auto contrast setting somewhere.

Thanks!
I did notice a setting that 'enhances' for HDTV or somesuch. Maybe that is it. I can also try switching DVI ports or my DVI->HDMI cable.

Check your actual monitor menu controls as well to make sure there's not oddball auto setting for contrast there.

Yeah, I'll check those again when I get home. The menu system onboard is kind of a pita, due to multiple analog/digital inputs and the ever-annoying "non-buttons"--they buttons that are not buttons, but touch sensitive whatnot.

I'm having a similar "weird" issue. One of my Samsung 24" monitors is darker than the other. The monitor settings are identical and I bought them both at the same time, same exact models.
