The Wire

getting really excited for the beginning of the fourth season. it is without a doubt the best cop show out there. yes, it even beats the shield (barely). i was wondering if anyone else here watches this show.

i think so, yes. by far and away it is the most realistic cop show ever to air. where the shield is just plain unbelievable 90 percent of the time. the wire shows explicitly both sides of the law, so you grow almost as attatched to the villains as you do the cops. both are very entertaining, but the wire edges out due to plot (comparing hbo to fx isnt fair) and realism.

Holy Crap, this is the best cop show ever made. I'd been trying to start watching from the beginning for a while now, don't know why I never watched it on HBO from the beginning...

Rented season one this morning and literally spent the whole day watching the first 10 or 11 episodes. I'll try to finish it off before bed today, but I just got done with the episode where
[Show]
Kima gets shot
Unfortunately I have caught a couple of episodes of Season 4, so I know how that's going to turn out for that character, but still. Omar is fucking great, Bubbles is great...

Seriously, check this show out if you haven't, it's absolutely amazing.

Amazing enough that when the Tigers game came on I kept watching the Wire and put the game on in PIP.

Just wait until season three.

btw, my friend just got me the review copy of season four (the one out now) and it is fucking amazing. I still can't wait to see new episodes even though I've already seen them.

I'm finally through the first 3 seasons, and I want to reiterate how phenomenal this show is. It's a pretty realistic and bleak look at life on the streets of Baltimore, from the perspective of the cops and the criminals, but it is done tremendously.

So many great characters on the show. McNulty is great. Disregarding what a good police he is, his behavior and relationships are spot-on as far as any cops that I've known. Omar is one of my favorite TV characters of all time, though not ahead of Al Swearengen. Colvin is great, the whole Hamsterdam idea from Season 3... I'm totally behind that and I think it's a great idea. The whole cast does a really good job. Except that I kind of hate D'Angelo Barksdale's mom, I wish she'd get hit by a truck.

I highly recommend this show. Add it to your Netflix queue or go to Blockbuster or whatever, it's totally worth your time.

Yeah, this show is truly great. Very interesting and realistic characters, and they put them into situations that could have been in the newspapers yesterday. You can almost taste the tension in some of the scenes, and it's awesome to see how the different players respond to it.

The Shield is 100% ass. That show is NYPD Blue minus all that boring police work. It couldn't possibly get worse unless Uwe Boll was directing it.

Is anyone catching the final season? I just finished the fourth episode today and am completely pissed this show is going to end. The newsroom angle of this season seems like it will pay off like every other idea this show has.

I'm watching it, of course. Best show on TV!

I like how it all ties together every season, but there's a different focus each time. Seasons on the Docks, with the Government angles, now the Newspaper. Also interesting that it's looking like it's going to tie back to season 2, at least to some degree. I always felt like that storyline was a bit out of place.

Getting this soon on Netflix (as soon as I finish up Homicide... kind of a precursor to The Wire I believe). Some of the same writers/actors are in both (Meldrick in Homicide is the City Editor Gus in The Wire). I'm kind of sad that I'm into the last couple seasons of Homicide, has been a fun time watching the show.

Am looking forward to The Wire, Baltimore baby!

Bah! The bastards at HBO aren't going to show the finale on demand early so I have to wait almost two weeks to watch it live.

Good news is it is just shy of two hours I've heard. I have no clue how any of it will end, but it looks to be a great finish.

I was out of town on vacation last week and my roommate cancelled hbo and all our pay channels while I was gone. :/ I still have like 2 or 3 episodes of the Wire (including the finale) to watch. What an asshole!

So the series finale was last week and I’m surprised no one posted anything about it. I thought it was a great ending to a much underappreciated series. They gave a type of closure to most of the plot lines without anything being unrealistic or forced.

I really enjoyed the scenes near the end with Cheese and Co-Op in the parking lot and then the memorial service at the cop bar.
[Show]
After Michael shot Snoop I got a feeling he was going to replace Omar in his role as the guy everyone feared on the streets. I think after the whole Omar/Marlo story line Michael really came out of it with a respect for Omar and his style. Then in the finale when he went in and robbed Marlo's banker it convinced me.
Going to miss the show and wish it would have gotten the recognition it deserved. I'll never understand why it wasn't more popular.

Yeah, it was probably the only series finale where it left a lot of loose ends, but you completely understood why. Coming back full circle like that was a great touch. So many amazing scenes between the last two episodes, I'm not sure anyone will ever be able to match it.
[Show]
At first I was pissed Marlo didn't get it at the end, but the way they ended his story was truly fitting. And gogo Michael, I semi saw that coming, but I admit I was mainly hoping for it to happen. I did, however, totally call Dukie shooting up during the last song.

Goddamn, I can't believe I hadn't watched this show until now. Maybe I've just been blind to it, but I just never heard/saw much publicity about it - certainly nothing on the scale of the Sopranos or Deadwood. After seeing the reviews here, and recommendations from several people around campus, I finally checked it out. I just finished the series finale... amazing. This really was hands down one of the greatest shows on television.
[Show]
Omar's death really made me sad, too. Sucked to have that little piece of shit take him out. Reminded me of Wild Bill's death. I would've rather seen Omar drop Marlo after his release. Oh well.

Okay, I have only finished the first two seasons so far, and I have season three set to be mailed soon from Netflix. While the show is good, I can't quite place my finger on what it is that keeps me from really liking it. Season two, for example, took forEVER to really set up what the damn story would be. Others have mentioned how the storyline really didn't seem to fit, but I think it was more a case of them not starting the actual investigations until later in the season. While the pacing of season one was slow at first as things started to build up, they did a good job of at least showing what the focus would be while covering the police and criminal sides of the story. I think that it was either after the third or fourth episode of season two that I actually considered cancelling the rest of the discs from this show. I will still keep watching though...but it kind of sucks that I saw about half of the series finale when it aired, lol.

I just finished watching this show on TV. Omar Little is one of my favorite characters ever, right under Jean Luc Picard and tied up there with Josh Lyman. I was blithering mad when he got killed. I also thought the finale was perfect, and really enjoyed how the show came together. Season four probably struck me the hardest, because those were all good kids who got dealt really shitty hands. For them to come out the way they did was the worst tragedy of the show.
Totally saw Michael as the new Omar. I was waiting for Snoop to get hit, and the end with Cheese was just classic.
Stringer Bell at the end of season three, with McNulty saying, "Who the hell were we really chasing?" was brilliant. I still think Stringer Bell was a wonderfully complex character; one side wanted so desperately to be all business, and his Roberts Rules meetings were fucking hilarious. The other side of him was so gangster that he had to answer personal affronts in his childhood way. The conflict between those two sides made him such an amazing character.
I could go on and on about this show. Fantastic!

Damnit, I really need to start watching this show. Between all the books I'm trying to read, and all the video games I'm trying to play, adding this to the platter will probably make my head implode, but I'm gonna have to deal.

I think I saw Clifton Powell in there, the guy that played Chauncey in Menace 2 Society. Also, is Method Man a regular on the show or just a cameo? I think I saw him twice.

I'm in the middle of a rewatch, and I can't get over how sad the show makes me. Not because of any lack of quality, but because every season things start to look good, either for an investigation or for a group of people. What inevitably ends up happening, but the institutions that are supposed to work for these people end up fucking them in the ass. I can't help but feel bad, even for the worst of the villians, because of how human they all seem. This was a show not about the stereotypes and cliches, but about showing us how people end up the way they are, and that sometimes villians are good guys as well as bad.

Had to finish it last night. I thought stringer was the worst type of person. He had no rules, no loyalty. He needed to die, so I cheered when they got him.

I was very happy to see bubbles wind up on the up and up. His character and Omar's are two of the best characters ever in a show to be honest.

I was sad to see bodie go, and to see how dukwon ended up. I liked both of their characters.

Keema is a total count for what she did. Although I did find the serial killer plot a little bit of a stretch. I might be able to accept that mcnulty would do all that (although I'm having a tough time doing so), but freamon absolutely didn't come off as the type that would do something like that to me.

I was also torn about cheese. I really like method man,
But I was relieved when slim put him down.

Oh yeah, that scene where Chris beats michaels (actually his little brothers) dad to death was fucking gruesome. You wanted him dead cause he's a fucking pedophile, but that was unsettling.

Great show, probablyy favorite show ever, if not its damn close. They did a better job and character development than anything I've ever seen, I applaud that.
